Longknife Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I had a dream about GamerGate somehow. Odd since I haven't really been paying attention to it that much the past few days. Some journalist was lecturing a classroom on whether or not a game was good, then out of nowhere a time traveler shows up and says the test he was about to give everyone is now null and void. The journalist questions him as to why and he explains that the company that made the game is being exposed as corrupt and may have helped funded the class for positive coverage, and at any rate our area of study (video games?) is about to fall through completely. He then begins drawing visuals to try and explain the complex space-time continuum and attempts to show that we are now right on the doorstep of a major consumer revolution that'll lead to the destruction of the "major" and all of the journalist's knowledge won't hold value in the future. Then I woke up and ate a sandwich and checked the news to see Arthur Chu has been doxxing people. "The Courier was the worst of all of them. The worst by far. When he died the first time, he must have met the devil, and then killed him." Is your mom hot? It may explain why guys were following her ?
Blarghagh Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) It's sad to see that a man that I respected in the past and have actually conversed with in person goes out of his way to support McCarthy type blacklisting using a block tool that picks who you follow in Twitter as a barometer. Ernest Adams is a toxic, malicious censor and I'm going to lobby to make sure my university no longer hosts his lectures. Regardless though, I remember saying blacklisting was going on and was going to get much bigger like five threads ago but got dismissed as a conspiracy nut despite being part of the gaming industry. At least I don't have to deal with that anymore. Thankfully IGDA got their buns kicked over it because if the goddamn International Game Developer Association starts blacklisting willy nilly anyone with or who listens to a "deviant point of view" you can kiss creative game development goodbye. She needs to be reported. She is, the dude she doxxed believes her posting of his name and e-mail violate FreeBSD's privacy policy, as he sent the e-mail to the entire list and not just her. Not sure how it will be handled by Twitter or FreeBSD, but it looks like a case of harassment could be built against her. Of course, the pro-corruption crowd is praising her and Chu for harassment and violation of privacy. Funny how when someone on there side doxxes it gets defended and is often someone using their public identity. One thing l hope for Gamergate is that a great number of people become cynical ***holes like me and regard journalism as a sleazy profession and always regard prevailing narratives with skepticism. Mission accomplished, though, frankly, I was pretty much there long before this started. PK htiw klaw eriF Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 So Oliver Campbell's thunderclap just went off. Looks like it has a reach of over 2.1million and its biggest supporters are Occupy Wall Street and Adam Baldwin. It's amazing that gamergate attracts people so diverse as a conservative actor and a movement against runaway capitalism. Looks like everyone is really tired of the SJW bull****. 2 "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands

Keyrock Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 A guy with no interest whatsoever in games took a look at gamergate: http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/25529/gamergate-culture-war/ This is my favorite paragraph from this fairly interesting article Morality aside, it is interesting to observe models of hypocrisy. “Sure, ___s are excluded from a lot of positive things in society. Sure their lives are unhappier. But if they don’t like it, they should just stop doing stuff like ____ and ____ and stop acting like such ____s.” According to certain worldviews, the way you fill in the mad lib determines if you are a Klansman or a champion of compassion and equality. 3 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
Blarghagh Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 An article somewhat related to #GamerGate and culture criticism: http://www.popmatters.com/column/180697-the-new-puritanism-or-some-troubling-tendencies-in-video-game-critic/ Among other things, it discusses the role of critics and whether or not offensive art has a place in society and whether or not, in fact, art has to be inherently offensive and it's censorship may (it doesn't make that call, just theorizes) in fact hold video games back. And indeed, if one begins looking at the history of literature, one quickly finds that there are an awful lot of books that might seem to be (or have been very often seen) as morally or politically offensive in nature: Nabokov’s Lolita, (which might seem especially apt here), Joyce’s Ulysses, Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow, anything written by Phillip Roth or Chuck Palahniuk, and the list goes on and on. These books are seen in literature as incredibly important works despite their potential immorality, sexism, racism, troubling sexual content, and possible pornographic content. Indeed, some of them have even been eventually seen as important because of their handling of such materials, not despite them at all. Also, the sparse (3 so far) comment section is also good, which is a rare. 3

Meshugger Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Gamergate helps to achieve historic win for internet ethics. It's official. You guys suck at harassing women. The comments are awesome: Well, we are so bad at harassing that we haven't managed to drive a single woman out of game development. We are the worst hate group in history. At least we're better at this ethics stuff. I swear at the rate we are going we are going to solve world hunger by the time we are done harassing all these women. We're like the ****ing Mr. Magoo of harrassment. Accidentally bake a 5 layer cake while walking to answer the door. To all the women still in gaming: I'm sorry, we tried. 4 "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
Longknife Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 So I wanted to see how GamerGhazi reacted to the FTC issue since I've visited there before and they seem incapable of ever being nice or reasonable to the other side. What do they think of the FTC policy changes? That Gamasutra is responsible for the changes, not GamerGate. Apparently GamaSutra wrote articles months ago about how Youtubes need to disclose when taking money for positive coverage of games. "The Courier was the worst of all of them. The worst by far. They can give Gamesutra credit for gamergate's accomplishments if they like. As long as the corruption goes away it doesn't bother me. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. I use blue text when I'm being sarcastic.

My thoughts exactly, so reason I bring it up is apparently they DO care who gets credit as there's no attitude of "but it doesn't really matter anyway so long as there's positive change." There's also no mention of how the simple fact GG shows interest in it says that GG does infact care about ethics. Just kinda bothers me cause, as I've said before, I think any debate, conflict or issue between two sides works better when the sides don't treat each other like the devil and are capable of admitting to good points from the opposition.
