Labadal Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 History... Also, I'm overweight So go me I'm overweight, no degree and live with my brother. I have been doing contract work for the past years because no one wants to give me a set job. Whatever you issue you have, I win. When you feel like crap, think of that Swedish guy on the Obsidian boards that has it worse. But you're in sweden, That automatically makes it better. And I assume that you've got an active social life and the motivation to do things. I have neither of those. We have winter for 6 months. Rain for 3 months. I hate fall and winter. I don't have many friends. I have like 3 close friends and 2 of them live 4 hours away. We see each other once per month. (I am still happy with my life, Brucie boy.) 1
Blarghagh Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Good to know Labadal. I hear ya Calax, I've been in pretty similar situations. In fact, it's not so far away from my current situation. The uncertainty of a situation like that, a lack of direction, can be brutal. But even if so, there's always something there for you. I don't know you personally but on the board I always thought of you as a nice, smart guy and I bet lots of people would be upset if something happened to you. Friends, family, hell even us. Think of us! We went through a lot already between hades and tarna. If you really feel so bad you might want to speak to a professional. It certainly helped me a lot. It's hard to find purpose if you don't know what to do but a lot of the feelings that come from that are illusions. I clearly remember feeling completely worthless even though when I look back I consider that to be dumb, I have plenty to offer and I assume you do too. I had to deal with a complete loss of self-identity at some point where I felt all my goals and possibilities were just ripped away, but even after that I picked up new things and went to therapy and found that there's still plenty of cool things to experience and be happy about. If you feel lonely, why is that? Are you isolated? Isolation is the easiest way to get depressed. Try to just hang out with one friend or family member - even if you feel you may be a burden to them, because that's very unlikely to be true. Even better, try going out or finding a social hobby. A friend of mine (not a social butterfly, I'm one of his only friends because he rubs people the wrong way and he's not exactly confident) moved to a new city by himself where he didn't know anyone, and he got seriously depressed until he decided to start going out and talking to people. It's hard to start with but a single "I don't know anyone here, anyone care to hang out?" is often enough to meet a few new cool people. I mean, obviously some guy on the internet saying you have a lot to offer isn't going to mean that much to you, but hell, you're a former superman, you can handle this like a boss. Here's a tip my therapist taught me - if you have negative thoughts about yourself, write them down in one column, and try to logically refute them in another column. That can often make you think more positively. At the same time, smile. Not just if you're happy, but practice real smiling (google duchenne smiling) in a mirror and try to do it all the time. The human brain is weird and if you fake a genuine looking smile, your brain is going to partially process you as being happy. That can help. I hope you feel better soon, and I bet you will. If it gets worse, I really suggest you talk to someone about it. If I could do it, and if Labadal can do it, you can definitely do it. 2

Blarghagh Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 What did they call you a sociopath for? I spent most of my day in the hospital talking to doctors, getting scanned and tested. Didn't know sleep apnea was such a big deal.
Calax Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I will give a bigger response when I am not on my phone, but for now I will just say that I am slowly working my way through one of my extra bottles of methaphenadate(?) And that generally pros usually don't help me much except to act as a place to just get words out of my system. I am trying to be more social but when work is at odd hours to help pay for a degree that won't do much for me it's hard to Find time to do things It doesn't help that my friends are all workaholics who are in class or at work when I am available so yeah... I am one generally isolated friendless (even in an online context) "creepy" guy who's bluntness gets him in trouble and doesn't have any real prospects for the future personally or professionally. Didn't know sleep apnea was such a big deal. Oh was just commenting on how fun it can be to mess with people by intentionally lying to them to aid in manipulating them somehow. Not seeing how that is really sociopathic, I guess you lack empathy by treating people as tools ? But eh, I've done that with my relatives, interesting to watch the false gossip spread and them react to things that never actually happened. Why has elegance found so little following? Do you think its normal behaviour to think its fun to lie to people in order to manipulate them? I'm not judging you, I just want to understand what you consider normal? Sarex Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 @Calax Best advice I can give you is that we will all die in the end, might as well see what life has to offer. As long as you are healthy, nothing is set, you can always change. If you lack motivation to change, try small steps. Things change, they always do. They will not always change for the better, but sometimes they will, you just have to wait for those days and savor them. Malcador Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Ah, that was a good laugh. Ask if I what I did was 'normal' and tell me you're not judging me It's not "normal" as lying isn't - else trying to do anything in the world would be rather impossible, but it can be fun to do now and then and is a basic way to find out the way who talks to who. But since I stopped caring about anything life has become less of torture, just remember that you'll die no matter what you do and everything is completely meaningless. I agree that life is meaningless and I'll die no matter what. Still, I find life to be quite fun. I'm having a good time. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Sorry Malc, I don't understand your response. Maybe someone can explain You seem surprised that someone called you a sociopath. And if I understand you correctly they called you that because you found it humorous that you could manipulate people and get a reaction by lying to them. What am I missing ? Sarex Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) That assumes you have a reason to continue No one can give you a reason to continue, that is something that you have to find for yourself. Though that sometimes means that you have to get off your ass and start looking. I mean if things really are that bad then change something, it's as simple as that. If you don't like your college then drop it, if your friends aren't there then find new ones, if you are fat then eat less or work out. No one else can live your life for you and everyone has their own problems, you just have to learn to deal with yours. Blarghagh Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Calax, I hope you figure out what your reason to continue is but I also genuinely hope you will see someone and talk about your problems. Also, I hope you don't take too much of your medication. I couldn't find anything about that specific med/brand but I hope it's not harmful. If this is some sort of "cry for help" type deal please know that as much as some of us want to help, we can't really do anything. If you feel like you may be hurting yourself or others, please contact a professional. We don't want to see you get hurt. What did they call you a sociopath for? I spent most of my day in the hospital talking to doctors, getting scanned and tested. Didn't know sleep apnea was such a big deal. Oh, that sucks. Are you going to have to wear one of these masks? I hope not, I always wonder how they can possibly be an improvement... Can't imagine having to sleep with one of those on. I don't know. They did ct scans, x-rays, took about a pint of my blood and stuck I don't know how many things up my nose and down my throat and soon I will have to spend the night in a sleep clinic. It's only after all the tests are done that they'll know what's causing the problem, if it's even sleep apnea, and how they might fix it. It might be as simple as fixing my deviated septum, it may be having to use one of those masks for the rest of my life or it may require complete reconstructive surgery of my entire jaw.
