Wasn't worth it, it was gone way too quickly and afterwards I felt bad for drinking something that makes me fat and dumb. Didn't enjoy it. Strangely Rum is totally worth it though. Today is my last day of drinking before going Sober for a mix of charities. No booze, no coffee, no cola, for a whole month. I sincerely worry that I may go into ersatz anaphylactic shock. It's an app that lets you see what people in the neighbourhood are drinking, what your friends are drinking, what you should drink next, and so on. I think it's only for beer though. Enoch Posted October 11, 2014 Share Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) A can of seltzer, and a rye Old Fashioned. (Separately, of course.) Lately, I favor the "chunky" version of the OF. Some use sugar syrup, a whole cherry, bitters, and a bit of orange peel to make a clear drink. Which is nice and pretty. But the chunky alternate allows you to pick the booze- and bitters-soaked fruit mush out of the bottom after you finish the drink Not especially dignified, but it's tasty and satisfying. How to: Toss a half-slice of orange into the glass. (At the risk of pointing out the obvious, use an Old Fashioned glass. All the best drinks have glassware named for them.) Then, a demerara sugar cube and 5 or so dashed of angostura bitters. Muddle a bit. Then add a ****tail cherry (preferrably homemade) and muddle until it's mush. Add a handful of ice cubes and stir to coat the ice. Add 3 oz. whiskey, preferrably rye, but an assertive bourbon or Canadian whisky will do. I once accidentally burned the marmalade* and it turned to a solid toffee like burnt caramel orange goo. I dissolved and filtered this goo (to get it out of the pan it was stuck to). Best bitters mix ever. Sweetish, but not very sweet, all the orange oils dampened ever so slightly. If you can duplicate this then please tell me the precise procedure. I've tried five times to duplicate, and can't. But it really is worth it. *I only use the juice and potato-peelered zest of the oranges. ~~ Still on the wagon, no booze, no coffee, no cola. The bottle itself has a groovy shape with the Hawaiian islands raised on the glass neck. Tastes like it would go great with fish ... coincidence?! All Stop. On Screen.
