well I feel utter revolted, if you read the whole thing, this new shiny mice from Razer requires always on connection to work, and needs to be activated online to work, otherwise its a basic plug and play mouse

I had issues with one razer product in the past, but this is taking the mick, I can't understand why they have gone this far, unless its it just for data mining?

well friends, if you are thinking of getting a razer mouse, avoid this one like the plague

Weird. I have one Razer mouse that uses Synapse but I don't even use it. As soon as you set the settings on the mouse the way you like them you don't even need to install the drivers because it remembers everything and works as soon as you plug it in.

That use of Synapse was pretty good. Otherwise the program itself is slow and a bit buggy.

Honestly, after quite a bit of experience with Razer and Logitech gamer mice, the more expensive models (as in more expensive than the Logitech MX518 or the cheapest Razer equivalent) are a waste of money, because all the added DPI doesn't make any difference the sensors already being more than sensitive enough.

I love my SteelSeries Sensei. No LogiTech or Razer for me if I can avoid it (had a Microsoft mouse for almost a decade before I got this one). I think it was Logitech's crappy keyboards (the wireless ones) that taught me the value of buying quality peripherals.

Most likely it is.

From what I heard various types of customer behavior tracking are slowly becoming standard.

Cisco did the same with some of their new routers, new firmware required logging into the cloud to use the settings. I think maybe the Linksys branded ones, but I'm not sure. I've been using Logitech mice for about 10 years, Microsoft before that. I have a MX500, MX510, G5v2, and G500, only issues I've had with them were the G5 had terrible drivers and the wheel click was hard because of the lean click being way too loose. Razer make the best hard and soft pads though, I've used most of the gaming brands, and Razer are clearly the best for pads.

Funny you should say that, SteelSeries mice previous to the Sensei were considered garbage by sellers in these parts. They had bags of returned ones due to various issues users had with them. I don't know about the sensei though.

I have their mechanical keyboard 6GV2 and the key caps keep on falling out due to loose they are, and the letters partially wore off after a few months use. Pretty pathetic for a 80 euro keyboard. Otherwise it works fine.

Logitech on the other hand gives a 3 year warranty on the MX518 (or used to until the new model came out). That thing is practically unbreakable. The rest of their stuff leaves much to be desired.

My Razer Diamondback is still going strong after around 7 years.

My logitech G1 is on its last legs and I'm looking for a new mouse ATM. I have razers idiotic software already on my windows partition (I'm sure they'll find the fact that I use it to play SWTOR and nothing else vastly interesting) but let's just say that it's been a bit of a turnoff regarding their mouse offerings. In fact, I should probably look through the Junkyard for mouse advice...

If you're right handed and have large hands the new MX518 version, I think its called G500 is a no brainer.

Don't buy anything Razer.

That's coming from somebody with 2 razer mice.

There's the G400 and G500 which are both current models and the same basic shape as the MX518, yeah. I don't really pay attention to things like mouse 'performance' because I don't play anything where it matters: I prefer the utility of the revolution scrollwheels in the non-gaming mice (using an MX1100 at the moment), I'm addicted to that wheel. It's disappointing that they still haven't added that wheel to their trackball products: I use trackballs on both my laptop and my HTPC and it's hard to adapt to life without it.

That said, I've heard that some people have had issues with how the G500's sensor works and prefer the simpler G400. I have a couple of the latter if only because they were dirt cheap, one I use at work and the other has been left unopened on my shelf for the past year - I only bought the second one to get my order past a free shipping threshold....

Actually, I have pretty small hands for a guy my size. It's actually funny, I'm 10cm taller than my dad, and he has huge bear paws. Apart from that we're clones, though. :D

Yeah, curse those mouse drivers eating up all my conventional memory. If someone passed you a floppy disk with a generic mouse driver that took up one less kilobyte than the one you were using, that was worth its weight in gold!

Still, at least it wasn't as hungry as MSCDEX.EXE. :D

Ahem. Personally I uninstalled all my Logitech software once I stopped needing the remap facility for MMOs and just let Windows handlle it as a generic mouse.

Oh yeah, I never installed my Logitech software. Its garbage. The MX518 has DPI pre sets that can be changed with two + and - buttons - hence there is no need to install the drivers.
