Dezloc Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Well since Project Eternity still has more than a year to go I was thinking about checking out this enhanced edition which comes out next month, anyone else interested?
Leferd Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Sure. I'll check it out after release. Try it out on the iPad during my daily train commute. "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
Monte Carlo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 yes. but it has romances. so caveat emptor. 1
NerdBoner Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 yes. but it has romances. so caveat emptor. BG1 with romances? Surely you jest...
diablo169 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I may buy it, but you really have to remember that its barely been changed at all. They cant improve the graphics at all (Since Bioware managed to lose all the original art assetts) and they cant alter the original story or npcs in any way since they dont have the rights to the game. In short it's going to be Baldurs Gate with a few professionally made mod npcs and areas and a new UI. If you own a tablet I can see the appeal, but not so much for pc gamers.
Monte Carlo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 You can do the wild thing with a chaotic evil half orc anti-paladin. Srsly. Monte Says No.
dlux Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 No. All they did was port the Inifinity Engine to Android (and added some content, i.e. companions and quests). Other than that it is exactly the same game, the graphics have not changed one bit either (don't they acces to the original assets?). It is interesting for those who have never played Baldur's Gate or want to play it on a tablet... but that is it in my opinion. 1
Monte Carlo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Oh horror of horrors, eh? Yes. It's like painting a Hitler moustache on the Mona Lisa. 1
Hiro Protagonist II Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I'm all for it. Over 400 bug fixes, updated cutscenes, world map and to be able to play it on widescreen with new characters and area. I still have my old discs that I use so this will be a welcome upgrade.
Moirnelithe Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I have pre-ordered it. I'm interested in the new content and any return to old style RPGs get my support. Even though I do own the original version...twice. ps. Please stop the romance hatred already, t's getting old. 2
Tigranes Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Original BG with mods is far, far better. They made an uglier world map, uglier UI, a few minor improvements that mods do already, and basically no significant improvements that mods don't do already, unless you're really hunkering for their version of additional romances. (I don't know if they'll be any better than mods that add romances.) It's worth looking into to play on tablets, I guess, but otherwise I can't see any value. 2 Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)

Moirnelithe Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Evil is a matter of perspective. But enjoy beating the dead horse.
MReed Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Just to be clear, yes, the original art assets were lost, and that dramatically limits what they can do as far as improving the original graphics. However, there are new areas (which obviously have new, high-resolution, art work) and they did some work with filters and the like on the original areas, which (supposedly) results in some amount of improvement at high resolution. Note that the developers have indicated that there will be further content (some paid-for DLC, some free) that will be created after release. No details on exactly what would be available beyond the fact that an "Adventure Y" is in the works. But... Yeah, BG:EE on PC isn't really all that good of a buy, as long as you are comfortable with modding your game -- not that hard with the various installers that are available now. As I see it, the primary market for this game is on the tablets, and even there for users that have never played Baldur's Gate before (and, likely, have never even heard of it). Whatever money Overhaul Games makes on the PC version is just bonus money from work that they were going to have to do to create the tablet versions.
Death Machine Miyagi Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I've pre-ordered mainly for the sake of the updated mods that I hope will start coming out for it, leading into BG2:EE, if it sells enough. Otherwise, a good chunk of the things it offers (BG1 in the BG2 engine, for example) are already available. Why waste time downloading mods when you already have the bugs fixed? Also most mods break the game with OP game breaking items and NPCs. So all in all, you get a game that's been fixed instead of you having to waste time going through at least 15 steps in downloading and installing mods that still make it an inferior version with tiny resolutions and OP items/NPCs. 1
Nonek Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Nah already bought it three times, that's enough for me. Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!
Monte Carlo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Yes, in fact having looked at the product it really is a case of "lend me your watch and I'll tell you the time." Unless you want to shag an evil half-orc, my advice is.... 1. Buy it off GOG for pennes 2. D/L and install loads of really easy to use mods 3. Enjoy 150 hours + of gaming
Uomoz Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Monte, romance hatred was old like 6 months ago! You need to update the hatred repertoire. 1
Nonek Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Don't listen Monte, doing the lords work never goes out of fashion. 2 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? You keep saying this. Its not true unless you choose to make it true by specifically seeking out mods with OP items/NPCs. Otherwise, there are plenty of BG mods that weaken existing overpowered items and increase the threat posed by enemies. If you're going to issue blanket criticism of the very idea of modding, at least criticize it on grounds that aren't blatantly false. 1 Álrêrst lébe ich mir werde, sît mîn sündic ouge siht daz here lant und ouch die erde, der man sô vil êren giht. ez ist geschehen, des ich ie bat: ích bin komen an die stat, dâ got menischlîchen trat.
Uomoz Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Btw, in EE they fixed a ton of bugs plus it uses BG2 engine (with all its cool spells and stuff), so it's worth those dollars.
diablo169 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 The bugs they have "fixed" were mostly fixed by fanpatches years ago. And you could already play BG1 in the BG2 engine with mods.
