SW: The Old Republic Part 4

Glad you got it sorted. What server and faction are you playing on Labadal?

I'm playing on Tomb of Freedom Nadd (EU). I started out with a Sith Inquisitor, but I'll see if I stick with him or not. Seems fairly fun to play as so far.

So, is it already completely free to play?

Nope, you can't play the game at all unless you are paying.. I just tried. I couldn't activate my account without paying at least 1 months subscription.

I'm playing for free up 'till level 15. It took me several tries, and I still don't know how I got it working.

Then you did it wrong somehow, because it's free to level 15 and has been a couple of months.

Some more instructions here: https://account.swtor.com/trial (although if you've already got an account, I suppose you have to do somethings inside your acocunt somehow).

Edit: wish I could be more helpful and give detailed instructions, but I am not eligible for the trial. But if you have an account and log in through the page I linked, it'll take you to the trial part of your account and should give you the last details on how to proceed.

if you don't have an account, create one on that page and it should then be the same.

I played for free on a trial account. I don't know if that's the same. I've got an account and a subscription at this point and so I don't really care about the f2p thing. If it goes to what some of these games do, which is to make it free but you have to pay for any halfway decent items, I'll probably just stop playing. Even if it ended up being cheaper, I don't want to keep track of that stuff. I want to play and be rewarded if I manage to well. I don't want to be forced to check on new items I need to buy to be competetive, which is lame in the first place.

Anyhow, I'm pretty much done with Tatooine. I accidently went into some Imperial area, but there was no one there. Later, someone kept challenging me to duels in the middle of a neutral city. In WoW, if you dueled in a neutral goblin town, the guards chased you down. That was okay because my WoW character could survive the bruisers, but my Republic character would have been minced fast. The upshot is, if the guy wanted to duel or, if it were *really* important, just plain hitch up and fight it out to the death, I would have probably obliged him. It's a waste of time, though. Save PvP for PvP areas and finish your actual quests out in the PvE areas. Hell, it's a PvE server after all.

I know you don't like Tatooine, Spider, but I think it's one of the most open and colorful places I've seen so far. Nar Shadda has a lot of multi-colored lights, but it seriously reminds me of the Las Vegas Strip. Maybe a little seedier, like Laughlin or something. Morongo Indian Casino? I can almost smell the cigarette smoke and flop sweat every time I run through one of the cramped hallways. ...But I don't hate it. Not a bad place overall and, like I said, lots of color. Out of everywhere I've been, I think I like Hutta least. I think that's where the Imperial Agents start. Ugh. Dismal, dreary, and downright nasty looking. I always feel like I have to go out and buy something for jock itch and athlete's foot whenever I stop playing there. It kind of reminds me of living on Guam in terms of the jungly overgrown climate, only the plants aren't pretty on Hutta and the water sure as hell ain't clear.

Well, wait until you've done the quests in the dune sea and then tell me if you still like tattooine. ;)

The planet has a pretty sweet main questline though, I'll give it that (it's the same for both sides in the end, just different ways to get there, though I like the imperial version better). But it's one of those planets where you have to drive for miles and miles between quests, so it drags a bit. Especially in the dune sea, which is huge. The design is pretty fitting though. Now how you can call that brownish piece of land colorful, I have no idea. I guess you desertfolk have a very different perspective. To me the color palette was very samey all the time.

Don't think Hutta is too bad, but it's because you're not there for very long. Alderaan has the most stunning visuals though, that planet is gorgeous.

Anyway, my raid team killed Kephess hard Mode (end boss in the latest and most difficult raid) today for the first time, so I'm pretty happy :)

I can play without a "trial" to 15.

Of course my Maurader is already 15, and my consular? Meh...

Rather wait for full F2P.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Cant in regards to your concerns about f2p, that's not how it'll be in the beginning anyway.

They'll maintain a subscription model, which will have access to all content in the game, where the free players will have restrictions placed on non-planetary content (flashpoints, war zones, ops). There will be vanity items to buy, but subscribers will also receive cartel coins as part of their subscription so they will ba able to get those without paying extra.

Bioware has also said that you won't be able to buy high end raid gear, that still comes from raids. Possibly you can buy things to make leveling easier, but I doubt they'll change the difficulty which means it won't be mandatory by any stretch of the imagination.

There is still reason to be worried of course, but I choose to remain optimistic about this.

Sorry, Spider, I still love Tatooine. I think it's beautiful. I think that a lot of the problems you have with it would be the same ones folks have with the desert. It's a huge open area ringed with mountains.

But I'm looking forward to heading out to Alderaan. I can do that now without any problems, but when I'm done here I think I'll do the bonus missions and Aric Jorgan's special line on Nar Shadda. Still loving the game, even though I suspect I'm going to pass out on my keyboard any minute now.

One i have to mention is Taris. While I'm not a huge fan of the world, I actually quite like how they manage to shift the atmosphere and ambience of the world between the Republic and Imperial sides...

So, we've been losing the vast majority of the battlegrounds lately. I'm always in the top half of both sides in terms of awards and the like, often in the top third, and occasionally in the number one slot, but my team still loses. ...And I couldn't care less about personally being at the top. I'd rather be the crappiest player on a winning team than the best player on a crappy team. It makes the pvp daily take twice as long.

I've been just about everywhere on Tatooine, except for a thorough exploration of the Imp side, and I've enjoyed it, but I'm looking forward to getting out. As to you, Raithe, I prefered Taris to the time I spent on Hutta when I made my character on the first trial account. I don't think I did everything on Hutta, though, so some of it might have been better later.

Well it looks like a whole bunch (including Corellian Run) have been merged together to form a whole new "The Shadowlands" server.

That and folks are getting the opportunity to rename their legacies, and handle potential multiple character names on a server issues..

Hm, and they've added 4 extra slots to create characters in (so from 8 to 12...).

Hurlshot, that won't be an issue now. They've merged a lot of servers, so each region basically has one pvp, one pve and a couple of rp servers. So there are plenty of people on them (to the degree that there was a 50 min queue for some last night)
