What you did today

Feeling old again because when people say "30 years ago!" I still think "Vietnam!"

I know what you mean. Earlier this year I was on the way to work when I heard on the radio it was the 20th anniversary of the beginning of Desert Storm/Gulf War. I almost wrecked. How could that be so long ago when I remember all that so clearly?

I never got DA 2. I imagine I will eventually though.

I have to admit, which I will deny to my wife, that I find the slutty maid in American Horror Story hawt. Then again, she's like a predatory animal and she's clearly meant to catch your interest. Now, keep in mind that even the maid is one of the shows over the top gimmicks. The maid looks like an old... well... maid to the wife whereas she looks like a stereotypical porno French maid to the husband. The husband, surprise surprise, has had an affair and that hangs hard and heavy between the married couple. hard and heavy, I say. I will own to the fact that the show is really creepy and would probably provide a lot of scares for folks, but it's just too tawdry for my tastes. I prefer shows like Carnivale. I also enjoyed Happy Town before ABC ditched it. ABC, by the way, stands for Already Been Cancelled. Anyhow, if you like the hot maid, just youtube the parts with her and forget the show.

Forget what I did today. What I'm going to do now is kill off some more of my brain and liver by starting my evening drink a thon. Cheers  :)

Momentarily enraged this morning I thumped the desk hard. The twisting motion flared my back and I collapsed briefly. Spoiled the moment completely. :)

Trying to gather some mojo for the day.

One of those mornings I just didn't want to get out of bed. Or open my eyes. No idea why just was one serious struggle to do so.

Then I find that in the two days since i ran the dishwasher through every single cup has disapeared from the cupboard, so I had I to manually wash a mug if I wanted a morning cup of tea.

And apparently the phone is on the fritz so I've got to figure out why we're not getting a dial tone.. but the internet access is good..so I suppose that weighs in on the plus side.

Playing with a knife is unacceptable behaviour in a meeting, I've been told.

Mate, I'm not being funny. You're an interesting character. But now is NOT the time to get fired. maybe you should play the game a little, just as a game.

Hah, nahh. Was a little knife though, watching the light on the blade was more interesting than listening to patronizing BS like "We've reached our goals for this week, great job everyone!" or informing us about a patch release we all already know about, etc.

Ain't corporate existence great? :ermm:

Run around this afternoon doing assorted small chores and bank errands sort of thing.

My enthusiasm for the day hasn't seemed to grow much. I need to get my focus back on track and some creative juices flowing again.

Of course, it turned into one of those fairly grim october days with that wind, really oppressively grey cloud cover and a touch of moisture in the air.

Oh give me a break, get distracted in one meeting, not an immense deal. And I do the required, engage in banal chit chat, laugh at the senior guy's jokes (although need to work on making it more sycophantic) , and be pleasant, etc. etc. (Although I must say, talking to different bosses and then they ask 'How are you doing?' is just a waste of time, heh). Sadly being a real all out team player here is drinking, hm.

Today I was teaching about the Crusades and religious fervor, and I tried to use Al-Queda as an example of fervor. Way too many kids gave me blank stares. I'd say half of them had no idea what I was talking about. There response to me was "We were only 2 when 9/11 happened!"

Defragged my main hard drive. The excitement never ends.

Shower, errands, more gaming.

True. But then you'd think that Virgin trains wouldn't want to move people around the country in tubes that smell of sh**.

Branson really should go incognito on one of his bloody trains some time.

One of my co-workers daughter house/dog sits for me when I'm on the road. The first time she did it she was asking about my Marine Corps stuff (I have my medals, marksmanship badges, etc in a display frame on the wall). I told her I got them in the Gulf War. She asked Iraq or Afghanistan. I laughed and said neither. She really knew nothing about it. Then I realized, she is seventeen! She was not even born then!

That made me feel older than dirt.

Hm, just realised that I've had about 5 or 6 cups of tea..and no food apart from a couple of digestive biscuits today.. and I'm still not actually hungry. Now it's half midnight.. so I think I shall throw in some stewed apple to at least make sure I get something.

That's okay, GD, I was in the navy a few years before Desert Storm. I was stationed several places stateside and for about a year and a half in South Korea. Some of the brighter children know we fought a war there but lack a firm perspective of time ask if I killed anyone during the war. "Kid, that war ended almost forty years before I got there."

Today, I moved rocks from one pile to another. Tomorrow, I'll move them back again. In the middle of that, as if I had time to deal with it, I found out I need to go in for a 'cardiolite stress test.' haha Wonderful. Nothing like losing six to eight hours one day in the upcoming month.

I have the ugliest (non-diseased) toenails in the world. They were never pretty, but they're getting weirder and weirder as I age. At least I don't have ear hair yet.

I categorically refute this. _I_ have the ugliest toenails in the world. Several fell off after marching and one got completely mangled playing football and never grows back properly.

I lost most of mine on both feet when I was 13, too. Backpacking.

Plus I have small/flat feet (give them a frog-toe like appearance), a nail fungus on one toe that gives it a black stripe (really hard to get rid of) & the big toenails are starting to "curl" a lot so I have ingrown toenail issues. :shifty:

Edit: Also, Comcast has been utter garbage the past few weeks. Grr.

Studied C# today, woo. Generally un-enraging day so that's a plus. Now I have to go fetch fried chicken for the mother, weird too, fried chicken places always have the seediest, greasiest looking people. Second only to West Indian food places, at least. :shifty:
