Bah, most of the stuff they say is just to define a position different from other candidates, to hook a certain type of voter in. The actual likelihood of most of that stuff getting implemented is almost non existent.

This is the smartest and most accurate statement anyone has made in this thread, at least since Mes posted his spot on analysis of the candidates.

I was just thinking it might be fun to try something similar to this nomination->vote on nominees concept with food. Get a bunch of hardcore - I don't know - popcorn enthusiasts to choose flavours, then see how the public like them. I bet you'd get just the same strange mix of extreme tastes.

Or I should just go to bed.

Don't get into a big twist about Santorum, he's not going to get nominated. This little bit of political theatre will be done and over by the time we get to the election. He'll make some noise and probably end up with a cabinet job and you can forget all about him then.

He'll be put in charge of the Department of Homeland Security knowing our luck... and all of a sudden the FBI has permission from him to bug your computer and watch all your salacious pornz.

The thing about the 2 party system, and the closed primary system in general, is that the most extreme candidates will end up winning (after all, you have debate audiences yelling "LET EM DIE" to a question on dropping medicare), and then promptly have to reverse half their rhetoric in order to even have a chance of winning the general election. That's why the recall election in California was so interesting. You had candidates trying to be middle of the road, and in general being more moderate, in the election because they weren't filtered out by the polar parts of the parties they represented.

Admittedly Arnie did get a surprise when some of his more... interesting propositions got killed both in the legislature and in the initiative system (which is broken as hell) showing that the population still had a leash on the government.

Mitt wins in Puerto Rico. He ended up with 82% of the votes which is no suprise because Santorum said some really stupid and ill-informed things while campaigning there.

Next is Illinois & Lousiana. Illinois looks pretty safe for Romney, LA could go either way.

Nah, the wars are just because we like taking your stuff and watching you cry. And theres nothing you can do to stop us.

Our stuff? You mean the US is gonna invade Austria soon? Cool. Unless you think invading random European country is the same thing as invading an medieval place like Afghanistan.

It's not gonna be such an easy cakewalk as Iraq or Afghanistan, though. Good luck.

I don't know, really... I don't see how the US has been taking anything from anyone by war lately. More like, you're wasting tons of money and making yourselves look like morons to the international community.

Gentlemen, I am pleased to report the Austrian invasion plans are proceeding on schedule! Soon the red white and blue will fly over Vienna and we'll tear down all those old Baroque buildings, bulldoze the opera, put a McDonalds on every street corner and a Wal-Mart where the Belvedere now stands! I know the international community might not like it but we don't give a damn what they think muh hah ha!

I got dibs on Morgoth's computer and game collection!

By the way, Pravda ran an article on Mitt Romney that is worth a chuckle: http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/pravda-mitt-romney-out-touch-out-date-unelectable_634772.html

a foul-mouthed, big-headed oaf like Romney with more money than sense makes a comment that reveals who he really is to the world: a pea-brained, pith-headed simpleton with too much testosterone and too little common sense, with zero tact, no diplomacy and a paramount grasp on the intricacies of world politics. A prize, good-for-nothing ignoramus," writes Pravda.

Wow Pravda, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?

US won't invade Austria since it doesn't go in accordance with the McDonald's doctrine.

Hey, it wouldn't be the first time US troops marched into Austria ;)
