Malcador Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 This thread gets more and more funny. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Thorton_AP Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Sorry, but giantic breasts (as opposed to big ones) are disgusting. But... whya re we talking about this?m L0L This is Codexian dialogue. Heh. Anyways, people whining about DA2 will buy DA2 so their opinions in the end are irrelervant since they'll be adding to the BIO monies anyways. Weird view that, your opinion is irrelevant because you bought the game ? Hm. Hard to evaluate the game otherwise, no ? Then again, if you're classing nitpicky comments as whining, heh, well. I can agree with the sentiment that I do find all the hate funny when (I am assuming) people will still be picking up the game. I think for some it's become more of a "I want to play the game simply so I can rip it apart." Kind of like how those that hated Howard Stern listened to him longer than those that liked him (if you're to believe the movie anyways).
Tale Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) So, what you're saying is that I should drop my pre-order. Then I can complain. Or will I end up in a catch-22 situation where if I don't buy the game, I'm obviously not the target audience, so it doesn't matter what I say anyway. Fun how that works. Edited January 12, 2011 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

The only thing that matters is if they can hoodwink you out of your $. 2. My point is it is hard to take bashing seriously pre releasew hen we all know full well that the mahjority of people bashing DA2 and is proclaiming it is gonna suck big time are gonna buy the game anyways. It would be like me loudly proclaiming I hate the Cleveland Cavaliers for their poor tretament of Lebron then I go out and buy their jersey. It does NOT make sense. If people hate BIO, 'know' that DA2 will suck, and have gone on for months about it yet go out and buy the game anyways, they obviously have a few screws loose and therefore their opinions are suspect at best. For me, this means I would be in the same boat if I went out and bought Skyrim b/c I believe it will suck. Then again, if you read that thread, you would notice I don't post in it as Skyrim is a wste of my time. And, that's all I'm saying about it as I was just making a point. "So, what you're saying is that I should drop my pre-order. Then I can complain. " No. What I am saying is if yiou think the game is gonna suck, don't buy it, don't play, don't worry about it. Concentrate on games you think you'll enjoy and stop wasting your time on sucha agabrage game or like you said on a game that 'you aren't the target audience'. sorophx Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 this thread is *this* close to becoming epic. and I mean it in a bad way Walsingham said: I was struggling to understand ths until I noticed you are from Finland. Malcador Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) Ah, I thought you were talking from the point of view of you, rather than EA. Well that's correct then. Still not seeing hate for the game here, figure most will play it to actually see what it's like rather than some sinister motive of getting it just so they can flame it (seriously bonkers to go for that). *shrug* Edited January 12, 2011 by Tigranes Why has elegance found so little following? Volourn Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) Someone else buying or not buying a agme doesn't effect me. I gain or lose nothing from it. You can't see the bashing? Did you read the last 22 pages of this thread? Everytime something new comes out the same people come in to proclaim how it's further proof that DA2 will be the biggets piece of crap ever.. yet, we all know they'll be there buying the game the moment it comes out. The illogicalness of such actions weirds me out. Just ask the Codex. The Codex loathes BIO and Bethesda yet those two conmpanies always get the most threads dedciated to them, and Codexers still buy/play/steal their games. Sometimes even playing them multiple times! Malcador Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) Didn't say it affected you, just that I misunderstood your original post. I guess I have a different standard for 'bashing' that what's on display here. Mostly just seems like their reactions to the 'news' of the game. As for the Codex, it's not a singular entity, so you'd have to match up the names of the 'bashers' with the repeat players. Raithe Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 It's one of the key rights of being a geek. You can complain about upcoming games, based on what you think of the ideas that they've announced will be in it. You can complain about glimpses shown in dev diaries and trailers. You can talk about how it has the potential to be a big steaming pile of doggy doodoo. But then it also comes down to the balance, that if you never actually play the game yourself, you can't really justify saying "this game is crap." It puts you in the same group of people who never played Mass Effect and labelled it "pornography simulator for children" or the faithful christians who never watched the Life of Brian and claimed it was "utter blasphemy". Until we get to that point of deciding whether it appeals to us enough to at least give it a play, you can just say that it looks like it's going to be a pile of excellence / doodo (depending on your point of view) without stating it definitively. That, and occasionally wander off into discussions of breast sizes in computer games and in general.... (which again, is a pretty standard right of the geek.) And on the personal level, a handful is nice, a plump "pillow" to rest the head against can work..but overlarge can be a bit silly. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Tigranes Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Not worth bothering, Volo has this unshakeable belief that all of us are part of the Hypocrit Hivemind and will buy every single BIO game and secretly love it. The threads here make it clear for anybody else that most people are on the fence, and quite a lot in fact want to like the game (cause, y'know, a fun game is better than a not-fun game) but aren't seeing enough yet. All this anti-negativity is pretty boring. Criticism (and praise) of Bio will change when Bio changes. Thorton_AP Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 So, what you're saying is that I should drop my pre-order. Then I can complain. Or will I end up in a catch-22 situation where if I don't buy the game, I'm obviously not the target audience, so it doesn't matter what I say anyway. Fun how that works. What's also fun is how many were slagging on DAO before it was released, stating it'd be bastardized and what have you.. Of this group, many said "meh" to DAO when it came out, citing all the bad things and how it wasn't BG2 incarnate. And now many of these same people are now upset because they actually did like DAO (some of them somewhat emphatically) and are giving DA2 the gears because of claims it's been bastardized or whatever. If you don't like the direction a franchise is going, why would you pre-order the game? Especially since pre-orders are considered THE most important thing a developer/publisher looks for. If you don't like the direction a franchise is going, it's one thing to state that. It's another to constantly chime in about how much you are all boo-urns about it and how you think the design decisions are ****ty. Bitch about the game if it sucks is fine. But to buy a game that you think will suck before hand? That's baffling. Why would anyone waste their time getting something that they don't think they will like? Are people that conditioned to just buy whatever schlock that gets put in front of them? If you're curious how the game will be, why don't you pick it up for cheaps on a Steam Sale or something? It's okay to have a passing interest in something. But if there's nothing about the game that appeals to someone, they're wasting their time by following it further, and wasting their money if they decide to pick it up. Unless, of course, they think there's a chance the game will be good. Is it just a case of "Expect the worst so you won't be disappointed?"
Thorton_AP Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 The threads here make it clear for anybody else that most people are on the fence, and quite a lot in fact want to like the game (cause, y'know, a fun game is better than a not-fun game) but aren't seeing enough yet. What are you looking forward to for DA2?
Tigranes Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 As I posted just yesterday: Funny thing is, there are a lot of things about DA2 that I like, or think that I'll like - I find their basic premise very compelling and reasonably original (I mean, we're going from "Orcs are coming, let's larp LOTR and copy&paste their battle sequences" to "how did this refugee become a powerful figure"), the crisper art direction is nice even if too animefied, combat changes look good too even if they compromised too much on the tactical combat, etc, they've definitely expanded on the number of animations, and I'm excited that they're trying something new with the retelling narrative style. The main reason I am not sold on DA2 yet is because I haven't heard encouraging things about combat and I want to see that is solid. For me DAO was a good old dungeon romp dressed up in a passable fantasy setting, without the fun combat it would have been hardly worth playing. So I'm on the fence. Anyway, as I say, all this crusade against criticism is really quite silly. Of course you want to be fair to Bioware and you want to see fair criticisms, but all this "shut up if you are likely to buy it" is rubbish. A game is composed of a lot of different elements, it's a package. If I buy DA2 in the end does that mean I support the ridiculous "romance" **** and can't complain about how it's getting closer and closer towards those soft-porn romance fiction paperbacks? I agree in princiiple that pre-ordering a game that you're not sure about is pretty silly because (a) in most cases you don't need to to ensure you buy it, (b) it really does send the wrongest message possible to the publisher - that their hype is hyping you up. Tale Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I'm looking forward to hoping that the tactical combat still manages to be fun. Asking that question actually depressed me a little. Preorder bonuses from any retailer: The Lion of Orlais - A mighty shield that comes with two rune slots as well as granting the player greater health and the ability to earn more XP. New copy bonus: The Black Emporium - Hidden below Kirkwall is the Black Emporium. This mysterious location contains many strange and powerful magics and items. By visiting the Black Emporium, players will be able to use the Mirror of Transformation and change their appearance. They'll be able to find exclusive magic and and crafting stores. Tigranes Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Ability tree looks better than DAO, we'll see about the skill design. A lot of the UI this time round really seems to be inspired by console JRPGs - a Vagrant Story Inventory, for instance. Not a big deal if usability on PC is fine, but I hope those full screen menus don't mean 2 second swoops & fades every time I want to access. Gromnir Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) I actually thought it was extremely inappropriate for Gromnir to misquote Nepenthe in a way that made him look like a pedophile. For a lawyer, that seemed like a pretty blatant case of libel. shows what you know 'bout law. ... am also surprised that a self-described educator such as hurl is so obtuse as to similarly Miss The Point. once again, the initial complaints 'bout the elf were not simply that she had a large chest. large rack on a female crpg character? forbear! is pretty much the norm for a crpg. the initial complaints were inspired 'cause of the size/age of the elf in question and her proportional breast size. nep's criticism and observation 'bout hypocrisy, given the context, only makes sense if one adds some reference to a preference for young and endowed... which is indeed creepy... which were the point. ssssoooooo... wanna continue playing this game? "Ability tree looks better than DAO, we'll see about the skill design." EASIEST way to improve would be to remove the rogue altogether and open up applicable skills and abilities to mages and warriors... but that would make too much sense. HA! Good Fun!
