Yeah, I usually use science, but if you don't have a high enough science/demolition, you might end up needing the codes. Otherwise, just stay out of his sight and you get the info. If you don't finish eavesdropping on him, apparently you don't find out that he's put a bomb on the tram until too late.

Well, based on this thread I finally had to try that quest. It seemed to work for me, but all I did was enter the tower around 1:30. He was already in there and immediately started his radio message, which I listened to. I didn't go up and confront or kill him, or go back to talk to Hsu first, just left and headed straight for the monorail. Defused the bomb, went to Hsu, who said he'd arrest Curtis & all done. I went back to check the tower and was allowed to loot Curtis' corpse, who somehow was mysteriously dead next to the radio even tho I hadn't even touched him.

I'm level 8, just finished the Come Fly With Me quest and am heading North of Novac to Boulder City. I am a sneak + guns character with insanely high LUCK. All I want is a freaking scope for my hunting rifle (finally found one). Where is there one for sale?

Store inventories are randomized, but they re-set every few game days. Keep checking back with the merchants in Goodsprings, Primm, Novac, and the junkyard lady until you find what you want.

Weapon mods can only be bought, and are never found in the gameworld for some reason.

and I don't understand, why I can't attach that scope to any rifle with a science and repair skills at 100 :(

My big mod-related complaint so far (playing an Energy Weaps character) is that there isn't a way that I can tell to put a scope on the unique Laser Rifle. The absence of a scope makes it less useful than the base model.

Edit: Also the "beam splitter" LR mod that actually makes the gun less effective.

188 Trading Post, Gun Runners or Crimson Caravan is your best bet.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cheesy that I couldn't mod unique weapons. I seriously doubt I ever download a player made mod, but that sounds like one that would be useful.

The thing about the spy at McCarran is that you need a high enough skill to defuse it. It says science/explosives when you activate it. If you don't have those skills, you can still defuse the bomb if you confront, kill, and loot the codes off of the spy. I suppose you could sneak and pick his pocket for the codes. Frankly, he's a rat bastard spy, so it never occured to me not to confront him and then plug him a few times.

Anyone know who is responsible for writing Tabitha and Rhonda?

im doing a playthrough as a "cowboy", to facilitate, i changed the level requirement for the cowboy perk from 8 to 2, so now I can take it right away. It's actually really really fun to have the limited weapon selection, and it helps that chance's knife is so easily obtainable at the beginning, so im a melee powerhouse on level 2, but am constantly running out of .357 ammo...

still, its a fun build so far.

its odd, in FO3 i used mostly energy weapons, but in fallout NV i prefer guns and melee. this is odd because it mirrors fallout 1 and 2, wherein I always used energy weapons in part 1 (turbo plasma rifle...) and guns in fallout 2 (gauss rifle...)

the ranger sequoia and This Machine are sooo much fun to use

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

I do have the crazy 5.56mm revolver (!!!) called 'That Gun' or something, which is a great close quarters weapon but what's the story behind that?

Thanks for all the other answers.

What I really miss, is my friggin Chinese assault rifle. The assault carbine is a pathetic peashooter in comparison.

It's the .223 pistol from Fallout 1 and 2. Now it's a 5.56, since .223 isn't in the game. It's the only pistol that can use AP rounds, ignoring hand loads, anyway. Supposedly Cowboy should apply to it, but does not from what I hear.

Based off the gun from Blade Runner.

OK now i'm actually getting bored with the minimap and quest location. I'm at novac. I have two quests concerning the GreaT Khans. I can't find either of them and the NCR officer is the person who the navigation keeps taking me to. It's very frustrating.

You mean Manny? He tells you he wants you to do something for him before he gives you the info. You should have a quest known as Come Fly With Me. That is the one he gave you.

No, my bad i'm in boulder city, i did the novac quest.

It's driving me nuts, I'd rather there was no mini-map but solid clues where to go, i'm going round in circles and can't progress the critical path. NCR guy suggested i waited 'til dark, which i have. Then.... nothing.

By 'NCR officer' do you mean Manny, Monte? Basically, you're trying to catch Benny's trail, so you need to talk to Manny in Novac. He won't give you the info unless you do the 'Come Fly With Me' questline. You can also simply walk into his room and read his mail to get the info. Once that's done, you'll have to head north to Boulder City. Once there, you'll find out that the Great Khans you need are in a hostage standoff with the NCR. There are several ways to handle that problem. Also, and don't resent me for suggesting it, but make sure you have the right quest selected in your pipboy.

EDIT: Sorry, Tale beat me to the punch about Manny. Monte, there's an entrance right where the officer is. You missed the door to another map by the NCR officer.

Did you go through the door behind him?

Yeah, I thought that the stand-off in Boulder was poorly done. In a supposedly tense situation, you can simply saunter over from NCR lines to the Khans' side of town without any confrontation at all. I get that they wanted to make it a quest solvable via multiple paths, but the Charisma Boy option is "just walk over there and pass a dialogue check," which doesn't feel plausible at all. They could've worked in something with radio communications or a backdoor entryway or surrendering your weapons casino-style to preserve the verisimilitude of stand-off.

It's better to ignore the plot completely, like with FO3. There's just too many "WTF??" moments... like suddenly being forgiven for all your sins by Caesar, not to mention even being invited into Caesar's tent even if you had previously done everything in your power to sabotage the Legion, e.g. wiping out Cottonwood Cove, Nelson and generally killing every Legion clown you come across.

It's on the same level as Dad from FO3 mildly chastising the main character for having blown up Megaton. Or Moira Brown's reaction to Megaton's destruction.

Actually, if you do enough (or maybe just some things in particular), you don't get the invitation.

The plot isn't that WTF at all - I agree that a lot will depend on how much you can get away with the Legion or the NCR, I haven't really tested that yet. And some level of weirdness always happens with this kind of faction-heavy game (Gothics, Risen) that you sort of accept in return for the C&C.

Boulder city standoff was cheaply done though, it did feel like a budget hack job that got the short shaft of development schedules.

I went back to Boulder City weeks after I let the NCR massacre the Khans and Jessup was still standing in the wrecked shop, angry face, had to kill him...and eat him
