Apparently people around the world are impressed by how Sweden has handled the economic crisis and how such a small country has so many internationally strong companies (IKEA and H&M are being quoted).

Take that, smelly Norwegians, suicidal Finns and drunk Danes!

The rest of you aren't even worth mentioning.

It is very impressive Mkreku, especially considering your... condition...

To be serious, I'm a little confused about this though - I understand why Sweden is there, because you guys actually do have some strong brands.. but what brands do Norway, Denmark, Canada, Australia and Austria have that are so world famous? I can't think of any to be honest.

Fortune favors the bald.

It's actually not only brands. It's how people around the world react to the name (reputation) of a nation. Apparently Canada has.. Grizzly bears. And Switzerland has.. uh.. cheese. And clocks. Or something. Anyhow, it's a combination of a lot of factors, not only company brands. I just used those examples because they were quoted in the article.

So that's not really a list about which countries have the most famous/popular brands, or U.S / France / Germany / Japan would dominate the top.

I mean come on, Ikea vs BMW? H&M vs Intel? As if.

There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. There are none that are wrong, only ignorant of facts

Considering that i have to travel to Sweden a lot due to work, I noticed that you guys are good at marketing yourselves. But your corporate meetings are something not out of this world, it's less about decision and more about discussion.

Sweden is socialist territory in case you hadn't noticed. Management suggests what works needs to be done to the workers representative committee, then discuss whether or not they want to do it. If they agree, they'll take it to the general assembly meeting where all workers get to vote for or against :shifty:

More or less that. What's most interesting is that all the decisions are divided up between different business area managers, projects managers, discipline representatives and other managers. Of course their respective roles overlap each other and the only way to slightly know what to do is to participate in meetings. It often happens that they overstep each other or simply shuffle responsibility to someone else that doesn't even have the authority to do it. Still somehow, they actually deliver their results in a timely manner and deadlines are rarely broken.

These experiences come from me working as a consultant for their system solutions. The company in question is a major one in europe with employees numbering in the six figures. Even if its global HQ is outside Sweden and the top management being non-swedish, the heavy influence of swedish working culture is a funny thing to see.

What's so exciting about Australia. The dust, the dingoes, or the cows ?

Low taxes, cheap petrol, AC/DC, poisonous spiders, poisonous snakes, poisonous jellyfish, poisonous platypus, swimming with sharks, crocodile dodging, whale watching, jungles, deserts, mountains, coral reefs, you get the picture... ;)

Try living in Detroit, buddy ;)

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

If that makes Australia exciting, Texas is a blast. You know what beats poisonous spiders? Rabid opossums.
