There is a very real possibility that Germany will walk over everyone now. After today's display they are massive favourite to win it all.

Sie Germanz were simply crushing, the whole game almost turned into a bore.

 Teams with quick counter-attack were mass-produced in this WC but, Germany is probably the most completed one, which would keep Sawyer happy as well as Merkel...

Clarification: I didn't see Suarez play on the occasion in question. I've been talking about players who deliberately foul/fake to 'win'.

Germany-Netherlands should be the finals now.

Spain will probably attack the entire game against Paraguay, have 75% possession, and lose 1-0.

Yeah, when you foul somebody and the other team gets a free kick because of you breaking the rules, YOU ARE A LOUSY CHEATER!!!!1111

Come on, I don't think the guy's a hero and he seems to be on an ego trip, but his foul, considering the stakes, was no more cheating than the abovementioned free kick situation.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

I'm sorry, but making a foul IS cheating. That's why it's punished. That's why it's called a foul. You make a foul, you cheated, you get punished. End of story. What I'm saying it that the rules should be tightened to prevent people from purposefully cheating for a tactical advantage.

Germany-Netherlands should be the finals now.

Apparently the old garde of dutch supporters are terrified of this because of the last time.

I can't wait for Belgium to play against Germany in the pre-rounds for Euro 2012. Guaranteed comedy gold.

You know, if you aren't cheating, you aren't really trying. This isn't a friendly match between buddies, it's the biggest stage in the world.

Good luck to Germany, after a mixed start their young, adventurous team is becoming fun to watch. If they win it will be well-deserved.

Committing a foul is committing a foul, part of the game. You can't pull off a perfect tackle every time. A really dangerous reckless tackle on the other hand, that would be unsportsmanlike.

That is all.

Villa saves Spain ones again!

I think in more ways than one it is more correct to say Iker Casillas saved Spain. Whatever Villa did, Casillas was the hero of last night.

Mann, Deutsches Fussball uber alles! -_-

That was a pleasure to watch. The second game of the night was just too late (at 4:00 in the morning local time), so I only caught the after action reports on the news sites.

What's pretty funny about Spain is Casillas getting interviewed by his own girlfriend. I bet he didn't like that after the match against Switzerland.

I think it will be interesting to see if Spain gets past Germany on Wednesday. On paper Germany was about evenly matched with England if only slightly the underdog with 2 less victories and they beat England. Now Spain and Germany are about evenly matched on paper with Spain being slightly the underdog with 2 fewer victories and 5 fewer goals.

If they get past Germany then they'll probably win.

Ah, but Spain has the experience of actually winning a major tournament with a similar team (though they aren't doing anywhere as well in this one), and the quality they've shown *on the pitch* this WC is far above what England has. Not to mention the Spanish aren't crippled by infighting / power play.

I think they have a good shot, but they have to do better.

She only does that sporadically, afaik. Publicly, that is. :(

Spain had the ref on their side, according to jackass manager

Yup. Like, totally.

Doesn't matter, anyway. Germany has been scary effective so far, and I don't see that changing against Spain.

I am not seeing where he is accusing the referee of partiality, more like being blind which is par the course for this tournament. As for the demand of apology, I am not sure how the reporter managed to miss the obvious sarcasm. Given that Paraguay really was robbed in the match I think it is entirely understandable that the manager would vent a little.

Hmm I don't know.....Germany also lost by a goal to Serbia in the group stage and barely won against Ghana. They did good against England and got a clear victory over Argentina but they aren't anywhere close to infallible.

"Paraguay really was robbed"?

What exactly are you referring to? The goal that was disallowed by Cardozo's offside?

Seriously, what?
