Altought i am atheist, forcing all people, that they have to be atheists is retarded... That was for sure not a good thing that came from Soviet Union

It is here and in Latvia, not so much in Lithuania and Poland, though.

And in Czech Republic aswell, and what do i find very funny is the way how it is in my country, when answering to statistic polls most of the population says they do believe in god, because it is trendy, but when looking at many discusion about taking away the funding of churches from tax money and making it only fundable from donations by officials believers, many of these "trendy" people would be checking the atheist checkboxes

You can be against churches and organized religion and not be an atheist though. I'm not quite sure I get your scenario, why would you lie about your belief in a poll because it is trendy?

some of them are doing it from what i know, because it is deep family tradition, but they do not visit churches at all... you know religion can be a reason for biggest fight, and some of them just simply do not want to fight with their own family, so they check the "believer" checkbox, until politics change the mandatory religion taxing of all citizens into mandatory donations for people who are true believers... but i dont think that will happen anytime soon, politics are just only talking about it here last 15 years but are affraid of doing it

Atheism is very common in western europe.

 

Infact when I first went to the US the biggest shock I got was that crazy christians still existed.... It actually seemed proposterious, and still does to me, it took time to except that.

I think you people are mixing atheism with agnosticism or just being generally non-religious. Atheists by definition KNOW there is no god, only Einstein and such people are actually pretty rare. Most people believe in some form of "higher force" or spirituality that isn't explainable by natural science, be it a god or something else. Organized religion has been losing importance in Europe for a few hundred years now.

There is a real difference, but the statistics are somewhat deceptive. In Slovakia, many people say they are religious by default, because their family was religious and because the Church has a history of resisting Communism in Slovakia, but less so in the Czech Republic, so in Slovakia ties with the Church are considered as a badge of honor by some. These people are often not religious at all. Throughout nominally Christian Europe, religion doesn't hold much sway. Even in the countries that are exceptions, such as Poland, there is religious belief, yes, but the extent to which people actually follow religious prescriptions is limited. Consider, for example, that Poland has one of the lowest total fertility rates in the world (pretty much the same as Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy, etc. - religion seems to have no effect either way on them) - so much for the "go forth and multiply" of the Church teachings...
