Oner Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 And if it wasn't the orc horde it was flaming, it probably just wanted to warm the land up a bit before setting itself on it and giving itself a chilly willy belly.Argument accepted. Deraldin Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) The character creator is up now for anyone that wants to give it a shot. Servers seem to be taking a hit though. I'm bouncing between 1-400KB/s down speeds. Edited October 13, 2009 by Deraldin
Syraxis Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Alternative download: http://www.fileplanet.com/206215/200000/fi...aracter-Creator
Monte Carlo Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Yeah, I'm downloading it from Bio... am getting 229KB / Second. That's about twenty minutes for me. Am going to try to make a face that looks like me but handsome.
Syraxis Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 First experience with the program: You can't skip the dumb intro movie. Hitting keys, mouse buttons do nothing.
Starwars Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Yeah, seriously. Screw unskippable cutscenes. Character creator if good for getting an overview of the skills and all that. Not much customization available though (apart from the visual side which is not something I care too much about personally), you can allocate your stat points. But I think the initial feat (or whatever it's called) selection is determined by the background you choose? Those get chosen for you at any rate. Monte Carlo Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 ^ Good idea Let's live blog our fun with the CC! 85% downloaded, wait out for exciting field reports regarding our progress.
Aristes Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Downloading now. Sadly, my connection is not exactly all that great. Damned old wiring.
Monte Carlo Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Maybe it's my fairly new and insanely powerful Cray supercomputer, but "Updating DirectX November 2007 (this may take a while)" really is... taking a while. Am wondering it is in fact a cutscene designed as a developer in-joke.
HoonDing Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I'm 9th in queue on the fileplanet site. I couldn't connect to the BioWare server for some reason. The anticipation is killing me. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Monte Carlo Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Am having fun making butt-ugly characters (grotesque dwarfs - huzzah!), but not a lot else to do but gaze at the skill trees.
Niten_Ryu Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Kind of pointless character creation utility. I was expecting WoW type of character builder, where you can plan your character past level 1. Ok, we can rotate and play with ugly character models but customization is very low so there ain't much fun in that. I like that portait icon system. In that characters are tiny enough to cut the rough edges away and low camera angle gives dramatic douchebag look for my human noble. Let's play Alpha Protocol My misadventures on youtube.
Bos_hybrid Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 You can't skip the dumb intro movie. Yes you can. Esc.
Pidesco Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I created a mage, and I couldn't change anything other than race or looks. I was expecting a bit more depth in this department. Monte Carlo Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Yeah, I was expecting to see the inventory screen, maybe, and some items / equipment. Oh well, I wasn't expecting a great deal but the character generation system is quite, ahem, simplified.
Morgoth Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 What's the point in releasing such a tool if you can create your char in the full game anyway? Rain makes everything better.
Volourn Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 "Yes you can. Esc." No. As for the CCT. Eh. It's alright, but not so useful since it seems at level you don't choose what you have other than stats. L0L Nice to take a gander at the different abilities, but useless at this point otherwise. They should have allowed us to level up to 5th level. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
alanschu Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Hmmm, in the actual character creation you do get to specify I believe two talents.
Aristes Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 The cutscene wasn't very good. I do like the ability to get in there and really modify all of the physical characteristics, though. Not much to do with it until the actual game ships.
Volourn Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 "Hmmm, in the actual character creation you do get to specify I believe two talents. " Not even a full CCT. L0LZ What a waste. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Pidesco Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Hmmm, in the actual character creation you do get to specify I believe two talents. The only thing you can specify is background. However, even that depends on your class and race. If you are human, for example, you never have a choice. Ditto for all mages. Oh, and you have 5 points to assign to your stats. It's all very disappointing. At least, the very meagre options you have could allow for complex consequences on how the plot unfolds and how you play the game. On account of having so few possibilities to cover, that is. HoonDing Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I don't get why we can't roll-back attributes? Rogues start out with 12 in magic and this value is fixed, why exactly? The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
alanschu Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I believe what they start with depends on what race/class combo you are.
Mera Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 It's all very disappointing. At least, the very meagre options you have could allow for complex consequences on how the plot unfolds and how you play the game. On account of having so few possibilities to cover, that is. In a Bioware game. Right.
Pop Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) Yeah, but that doesn't really account for the lack of min/maxing potential. For a character creation system as simple as DA's I don't actually think it's a big deal. I mean in D&D you could build out a high-dex fighter right off the bat. That sort of choice doesn't seem to make much sense in DA. The actual facial customization is pretty dang nice, actually. Unlike a lot of systems you can make faces that actually look decent.
