Maria Caliban Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) 13 bucks for a 6-month subscription after one free month. Not bad! And dial-up does work right? You have to actually BUY the game for like ~$50 as well. That's incorrect. You can d/l the game from blizzard. I HAVE DIAL UP! DOES THAT MEAN ANYTHING AT ALL?????!?!??!??!? Yes. Also, I'm pretty sure the private servers are illegal. No, they're not. Edited August 16, 2009 by Maria Caliban "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
Hurlshort Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I would ignore all the MMO naysayers here, it's a genre of games they dislike, but there are a lot of folks that play them regularly on these forums. WoW really is worth a try if you have an interest in the genre, it is king because it does so much so well. But downloading on dial-up is pretty rough. If you go to a store and buy the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, that will get you fairly well updated, you will probably only have to dl'ed a gig or two. Then you will have to deal with the lag, but from what I've heard, WoW is playable on dial-up.
mrmud Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 WoW is a good game, I played it for 4 years (then I got tired of it). That said, if you are looking for a single player experience, go elsewhere. The stuff you can do solo is not what makes you stay with the game.
Calax Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 WoW, is an Mutliplayer... all MMO's are Multiplayer, (hence the term, massive mutliplayer Online). Dial up does allow you to play the game, but the problem comes when you hit the end game content because most of that has particle effects and other visually intensive stiuations that will make your gpu start cussing, and that in tern means that more data is being shoved through your internet to tell it what to do. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
steelfiredragon Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) its a money sink. a few that I have heard who have played it, have said they got bored of it later on. it also has to be worth the money to keep its worth the price tag, otherwise if you dont like it, its a nice set of costers. however all things are different between people Edited August 16, 2009 by steelfiredragon Strength through Mercy Head Torturor of the Cult of the Anti-gnome
Purkake Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Apparently I fail at WoW knowledge. At least I tried.
Mamoulian War Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Yes, it is illegal. Which is why I didn't link to anything. Only if the providers charge for the content, which is Blizzard's IP... but you know, different countries different laws... And if I am forced to go with a singlee-player strat game, I am going with Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne expansion. If I do not get WoW, price means absolutely nothing.

Yes. its a multiplayer game so of course you have to get the updates.
mrmud Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Hmm? i.e. Yes you are forced to download the patches.
Purkake Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Try the trial, if you're really interested. You don't really have anything to lose, it's free.
Hurlshort Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 My concern for him with the trial is he would have to download the entire client, which is upwards of 10 gigs. If he buys the most recent expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, he gets 30 days for free with the price of the game, and he would only have to update it minimally by installing off the discs.
Purkake Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 It costs money. Chances are that he won't be having too much fun on dial up anyway. I'd take a 400h download over wasting money on something that I probably wouldn't be able to play anyway.
Hurlshort Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'd rather spend $50 and save myself 400 hours of frustrated downloading. Plus you get a free month with it, so that gives him a bit more time to decide if he likes it. I've heard of quite a few people playing WoW on dial-up. If he's not used to high speed, it probably won't be too bothersome. Sure, the end game raids won't be any good for him, but the majority of WoW players never see that stuff anyways.

Well my dad is the one who is going to decide whether I can get it. Hey, um, I know i have to have the original game, but must I have Burning Crusade as well? I will find out whether I can get it by the turn of the hour, hopefully. Pray for me!
kingofsquid Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 So the answer to my question is.....? Anyway, just asked my dad, and he said," We'll see. Um whatever." Coming from him, that is a probably, so.......
Purkake Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Even buying the disc, you'll still need a few gigs of updates, so good luck!
kingofsquid Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 Even if I get Lich King and do not like the game, I can keep the receipt and take it back to Wall-Mart. (90 day munny back guarantee) when the trial is up, of course. Hey, um, I probably wont get it till October (when my football season ends, it will be reward). Hey, don't take this the wrong way, but I love you guys (as in u r great.)

Do they actually take PC games back anyway?
kingofsquid Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 ????????? Yes they take all games back.
Aristes Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 If you get the game, let me know. If you sign onto Gilneas as Alliance or Velen as Alliance or Horde, let me know. I'll trade you some gold and whatnot to get you started. However, you can't trade items or gold in the trial version, just so you're forwarned.
