What the ****? 4chan isn't illegal, but I suspect a move like this might be. Doesn't America have a competition regulator or consumer watchdog?

Also, lol at pissing off Anonymous.

Yes, because if you give these guys an inch they'll take a mile. Censoring something like 4chan is just the start, not the end.

That certainly came out of nowhere.

I feel sorry for the AT&T people's personal lives. I'm sure they'll be getting a lot of pizzas in the coming days.

As I understand it, legally, internet service in the U.S. is all private contracts. That is, you make a contract with a service provider to run a line up to your house, and provide whatever services the contract requires. At present, there is no requirement that a contract to provide "internet service" necessarily means "the whole internet without limitation or preference to certain sources." If the provider restricts said service within the terms of the contract, the government, under current law, has no role to play. The consumer's alternative is to insist on different contract terms (good luck!) or to find a different provider.

Pro-net-neutrality bills have been proposed, but nothing yet has been enacted into law.

Wahts 4 chan, I don't really wanna find out on my own.

4chan is the hub of all the horrors of the internet :p

You guys are only partially right. 4chan is a paradox. It represents the greatest fruits the internet can offer but also some of the most horrific. It used to truly be an amazing place. An oasis of wonder and delight but as with all things it has to eventually end.

Either way I'm glad they are fighting back. Free internets is a god given right.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

Sounds like the place bad people go when they die on the internet :p

I remember hearing the name before, can't remember who mentioned it though.

It's probably better to get all the information before passing judgement on AT&T's actions.

here's to jumping the gun based on... speculation. turns out it may have been a massive DDoS attack, not a net neutrality issue.

perhaps if people actually waited for an official confirmation - rather than relying solely on rumor - before forming an opinion (otherwise known as a WAG)... nah, why would i think anybody would want to think rationally. conspiracy is so much better. sigh...

Folks are all about storming the barricade of AT&T. I wonder what will happen if 4chan and their hordes of slack jawed minions go hog wild in regards to this and it turns out AT&T was not responsible. All of this is great when it's AT&T people getting hurt, some of whom may not have had anything to do with this mess. ...But it's always great when it happens to some other poor bastard. Nothing like making it so abundantly clear that a place so lawless as the internet can impact the lives of people in real life.

I wonder, if it turns out AT&T didn't willfully do anything, if lawmakers are going to be more sympathetic to 4chan after some sort of retaliation.

That's my point entirely. Sluggie says the internet is our god given right? But the government probably doesn't see it that way. We could end up with a lot more regulation than we have and the fastest way to see that regulation is to abuse our freedom. ...Or to have folks like 4chan abuse theirs. Posting stupid crap is one thing. Engaging in internet terrorism that ends up materially impacting folks lives is quite another. I agree with you entirely, Oner.

I'm not boycotting **** on behalf of 4chan. Bunch of wankers pretending that posting underage anime girls makes you a post 9/11 intellectual.

I couldn't get away with not using 4chan, its a very easy way to kill time for me when I am not busy and can't commit to playing video games. /b/ has been crap for a long time but the rest of the board is quite good, and this will absolutely not go down well.

"For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."

So a service provider has blocked /b/ @4chan, the very Internet Hate Machine as we know it for whatever reasons, which seems to be none at the moment.

I suspect that we are inbound for a mouthful of lulz indeed.

Ive always wondered how the peole at 4chan manages to organise themselves into doing anything since the forums are completely chaotic. Its essentially just an old webchat where messages are stacked on top of eachother sorted by timestamp. You write something and a minute later it will be gone in the flood of messages.

DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. If there is no clear indication, asume the post is written in jest. This notification is meant very seriously and its purpouse is to avoid misunderstandings and the consequences thereof. Furthermore; I can not be held accountable for anything I write on these forums since the idea of taking serious responsability for my unserious actions, is an oxymoron in itself.

Important: as the following sentence contains many naughty words I warn you not to read it under any circumstances; botty, knickers, wee, erogenous zone, psychiatrist, clitoris, stockings, bosom, poetry reading, dentist, fellatio and the department of agriculture.
