WAR is not a bad game, it's a buggy game that had to cut a ton of content to finally make a release date.

I wonder why that happened? *points at evul EA*

Are you kidding? Mythic missed deadline after deadline on WAR. If you go into work and start a 3 year project, and it gets stretched into a 5 year project, you have messed up and you are lucky you don't get fired. I'm surprised how much time they were actually given on the game.

I guess this is the end of the BIO we knew and appreciated. These are sad times since I cannot find anymore any rpg worth playing. Obsidian is not making anything interesting, CDP is almost bankrupt and BIO has been making worse games with each year passing... I guess the oldies will remain goodies forever...

According to Kotaku

http://kotaku.com/5302069/ea-combines-myth...giant-rpg-robot

the merger will not affect Bioware's current and future operations.

And the two Bioware bosses, Ray and Greg, are friends with the head honcho of EA, Riccietiello. This still counts for something, even in today's competitive market, it seems. And is probably why Mythic is being merged inti Bioware --- it certainly seesm this way to me. Bioware and Mythic are being fused together with Mythic being the company being fused into Bioware, not the other way around.

Why would Ray and Greg be appointed head honchos of Mythic, then, if this weren't the case?

Maybe it's because the 3 year deadline was an impossible goal to meet?

I worked as programmer (not as a game programmer though) for some time, and i would say, that of all the projects I worked on, only 3 had realistic deadlines... everything else was plain impossible to offer the demanded product on time... so some content had to be cut... after some while, i just said the money i got, was not worth the stress and overtimes i had to pull for my employer and at the end almost always me and my coleagues getting blamed for not delivering the product on-time...

put some marketing clown, who has no clue how long the working code has to be created in the lead of the project and your product fail even if you put your best into it...

That's not unusual, most bosses think that programming is the same as any other form of production. That was the main reason on why I switched jobs to a consultant/specialist position; the boss or project manager usually leave you alone, you are often your own boss, and you set the terms by your own standards.

As for the merger, meh, it does not even matter since they were already bought by EA. I await for Gaider to found his own company.

Gaider creating his own company has very little interest for me, although it would be interesting to see it happen. He's produced some solid work over the years. Nothing phenomenal, but some really good work on a variety of games. I have yet to play Mass Effect, though, and some folks say it's a classic.

Gaider wrote Jolee in KotOR. It was his "Thriller", and will be forever remembered by it.

He also wrote HK-47, which was his Teaching Mrs. Tingle/other appalling Hollywood film that was nevertheless appallingly successful.

This particularly rapid, unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter.

Is David Gaider just the only BioDev people know by name?

I know only him, ol' doc twins and Stormwaltz. I've always assumed it's the docs who guard the Bioware quality but I could be wrong. It might be similar to Blizzard where none outside the company really know who calls the most important shots and tell developers to change something (even if it means long development times). Then again in Bioware's case, I don't know who allowed NWN original campaign to get past the alpha stage... :(

Let's play Alpha Protocol
