It was on the derelict spacecraft on LV-426 in Alien.

Sorry, this was the only pic I could find online, and I'm too lazy to boot up the movie and make a screen shot of my own.

So, anybody know anything about that?

Check out my KOTOR fan vids on YouTube. And no, they're not of legos.

It's not explicitly stated in the film, but various sources confirm that it is a "Space Jockey", a (benevolent, apparently) spacefaring race that was using the Aliens as a sort of terrible biological weapon. When the ship on LV-426 crashed, a facehugger escaped and attacked the Space Jockey, as evidenced by the hole in its fossilized chest.

There's been some reports that the Aliens FPS' story will include the Space Jockeys somehow. No word on them in Obsidz's project.

Comics or novels I guess.

How do we know anything about what the pilot race used the aliens for.

Ridley Scott had said something about it in the commentary track for Alien. Makes sense, there's not much other reason to carry around a large amount of eggs, and the eggs didn't appear to be native to LV-426.

No "canonical" data about the Space Jockey. I prefer the term "Giants" when speaking about that species. Various comics have various ideas about them as there is no unified expanded universe. I do like the theory that they created to Aliens as a weapon. Their technology looks as Gigerish as the Aliens after all.

Space Jockeys?

You know, for someone new to the franchise, that just sounds like a really ridiculous name.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

It's not an official name, but a nickname given by the crew of the first film. It's taken from the title of a Robert Heinlein short story. Giger called the creature "The Pilot".

Clearly your interest in this subject is unequivocal evidence of their presence in the Aliens RPG!

The only ridicolous thing in the alien franchise is something called alien resurrection, and if there is a new film specially with Ripley involved, then it will be even more ridicolous.

You may find the name "space jockey" ridicolous, but it,s your opinion, cause in first film I find nothing ridicolous, not even pilot,s name.

An opinion maybe, but an opinion likely shared by many.

'Space Jockeys' is a ridiculous name. 'Giants' or 'Pilots' sound more like fearsome higher beings than futuristic underwear.

I don,t think it,s likely shared by many. Space Jockey may sound a little bit childy ot something like that, but never before I had wondered myself about this matter; for me, it always was the space jockey, and by the way, it sounds pretty much better for a story shrouded in mistery like alien.

Actually, names like giant or pilot sound too simple to me, even if Giger had previously named it as the pilot; perhaps, this last one is the only reason to call it pilot.

Oh, I'm yet another one who thinks Space Jockey is frickin' ridiculous "name" for them.

One gets used to it like to many things, but like all others I know and who has heared went "wait what" when they first learned it.

I mean, JOCKEY?

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

I don't think it's a ridiculous name, since it was never meant to be a in-universe denomination. For stage purposes it's fine I guess.

Yeah, that has potential. Anyway, if that's the case I only hope they don't revisit the done-to-death "Ancient Evil Ones" clich

Damn straight. I wouldn't mind them playing on that theme, though - "Ancient Evil Ones" who are really a subset of "Mostly Neutral Ones With A Bit Of Evil And A Bit Of Good Ones"... y'know, in a way that makes them morally grey and hard to give an intuitively-comforting-but-intellectually-barren knee-jerk moral assignment - sort of like humans.

Either way, I love seeing ancient civilisations, ruins, technology and cultures in my fiction, so I'm all for it even if it is just the ancient evil clich

Feh, not "Ancient Evil", just "Mysterious Precursors". I like that theme and with Precursors one can always do that Fermi Paradox thing.

SODOFF Steam group.

But doesn't the Fermi Paradox kind of require them to be an inhibitive Ancient Evil evil, though? Or the victims of an inhibitive Ancient Evil.

Then again, they were fighting something, so maybe that's not too far off the mark.

Yeah, for that purpose it is very fitting nickname

however, trying to make it official is just...

I am fairly certain they didn't create the Bugs. I remember seeing at least one other alien race explorer picking up some bugs from tehir native planet. On their native planet they were kept in check by various other (presumably insanely dangerous) predators. It was in one of the comics.

tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

I remember that comic. It also had the the Giants still alive. Pretty lame, IMO. I liked the Destroying Angels' treatment of the much better.

Actually I don't mind Ancient Evil much as long as it stays in the past. The problem with typical plot involving them is that they are always trying to make a comeback or have left behind a some sort of doomsday device.

Personally, if we are going to possibly encounter another "Giant" corpse in the game, that would be cool. I always loved that scene in Alien. There is no explanation of what it is, where it came from etc... neat scene.

Exactly. Loved these films since I was a child. But I still feel just like a little girl when I see the thing. I'm thinking, "mommy, what's that?"

And Yay! if that ends up being true.

I think that was just one of the comics. They're not very canon.

I suggest we implement the rule that nothing exists as regards cannon after AVP, that is after devastating suckyness reared its ugly head.
