Kelverin Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 If EA is so horrible, and their games supposedly suck why do people still buy their games? *shrug* Well if you want an up to date realistic NFL football game, you have no choice. J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
Killian Kalthorne Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) If EA is so horrible, and their games supposedly suck why do people still buy their games? *shrug* I have no problems with EA, just the protection scheme they used with MEPC. I won't buy another game that uses it in the future. If they decide to use the Stardock method or what they used before in the BG series or NWN1 then I will buy the game. But DRM as it stands with MEPC has to go. It will be decided on game by game basis. Deadly_Nightshade Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Did BG have a protection scheme? A CD-check, but you could always rip the discs to an ISO and play from that. "Geez. SteveThaiBinh Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 With what? I think I already made my point. What? That I'm prepared to put up with DRM I really don't like for games that I really want and can't get by any other method? Not everyone will make the same compromise. Plus I'm less likely to buy titles unless I'm really keen on them. So how does that not damage sales? "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
Spider Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I will not say that 3D games suck in general, but I can't think of any game franchise that I love(d), which made a successful transition from 2D to 3D. Civilization
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Warcraft 3. Metroid? And freaking Mario. Mario 64 for god's sake. Ocarina of time? How can you miss these? I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Dark_Raven Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 DRM exists because software companies believe it helps combat piracy, rightly or wrongly. I get that. I also get the feeling that some of the DRM/download restrictions on games are nothing at all to do with combating piracy. A group of execs have sat down and calculated that by imposing restriction X (maximum no. of downloads, limited re-download period etc.), Y perentage of consumers will find themselves paying a second time for the game, and this will increase profits. I'd like to see gamers as consumers start to put real pressure on the industry to regularise good practise in this area. DRM and other bull**** software make it inconvient to consumers not pirates. There is no way to stop piracy any more than there is a way to stop illegal drug use. The companies mught was well suck it up and consider it as a part of doing business. They stay the course they are on now, people will go out and get pirated copies more so than now. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Dark_Raven Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 If EA is so horrible, and their games supposedly suck why do people still buy their games? *shrug* Because there are a lot of couch potato sports fans out there who are too lazy to go out and play sports. Plus they have a monopoly on sports games. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

That's ignoring the fact you cna play both real life sports, and video game sports. Then again, FO is only popular 'cause there are a lot of couch potato post nuclear fans out there who are too lazy to press a button so we can actually live it. L0L " Plus they have a monopoly on sports games." No, they don't. And, sports isn't their only source of income. Never heard of the Sims, right? "Come on Volo lets hear it! I see you. Kelverin Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) Sure they do. They have exclusive rights with the NFL, NCAA Football, FIFA, PGA Golf Tour and NASCAR Also they can't make a MLB baseball games. Which is a real shame since 4 years later it's still the best baseball game ever made. NBA and NHL is a free for all. Don't ya just love capitalism? ( I know I do) EDIT: EA is (was) trying to buy Take 2 which produces? 2K sports games. Also they did buy exclusive rights to NCAA Baseball made 2 games but have not made another, I do not know if they still have the license??? Civilization I didn't like the original Civilization A few examples, Lords of Midnight turned into garbage in it's third (3d) and final game, Master of Orion 3 (3d engine) wasn't really that good, Heroes of Might & Magic 4 and later turned lame after moving onto 3d engines, Fallout 3... don't even get me started on what my expectations are for that one, Jagged Alliance 3 looks like a mid 90'es attempt at a 3rd person multiplayer shooter, the 2003 version of Defender of the Crown? Bleh... enough rambling I feel sand between my toes. Is that the trolls demolishing the sand castles again? “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Bleh... enough rambling You have some good examples of games that have worse 3D sequels than the previous 2D incarnations, but at least in the case of MoO3, HoMM4 (and 5 I assume, although I liked that one) and Jagged Alliance 3 their alleged crappiness had nothing to do with them being 3D.
Hell Kitty Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 their alleged crappiness had nothing to do with them being 3D. Damn straight. JA3 looks, unsurprisingly, like Silent Storm, and how anyone could look at S^2 and think "3rd person multiplayer shooter" is beyond me.

Hell Kitty Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 From Akella's website: Coop and multiplayer modes, Four different sides to choose from. So mentioning multiplayer equals a multiplayer focused game? Surely referring to them as "modes" suggest the game is primarily single player and the multiplayer stuff is extra?
