J.E. Sawyer
Coming in early '08 to Xbox 360 and PS3, frantic fighting at a glorious 60fps. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26663.html No new weapons for Nero this time around. Instead he upgrades his crazy hand to do crazy things. Also I have to say that Japanese trailers always confuse me because the music seems so inappropriate for the action that's going on. Also, watch the in-game footage between Dante and Nero closely and you can see them shooting bullets out of the air. twitter tyme
Tale
I've not played a single Devil May Cry since I bought the first one. I thought it might be scary, so I do what I normally do with scary games. I put it in for a test run without saving. Several hours later, it was over. I sat down for a trial run and without saving beat the game. Obviously it was terrific fun as it kept me engaged throughout, but something about that experience caused me to never have interest in revisiting the series again. What I want to ask, and why I've written that introduction, is: Should I give the series another chance? If so, where in the series should I pick up? Llyranor
This is one of my anticipated 360 titles. I've never played any game in the series, so I'll have to try out the demo first (which, apparently, might be coming out this month). Hearing how insane the difficult in DMC3 was is one of the appealing factors here. I'm also interested in seeing how it compares to Ninja Gaiden in terms of gameplay. If the demo impresses, I might actually pick it up fairly soon. J.E. Sawyer
What I want to ask, and why I've written that introduction, is: Should I give the series another chance? If so, where in the series should I pick up? Skip DMC2 and go straight to the special edition of DMC3. It shouldn't be too hard to find the SE. If you have trouble finding that, just pick up regular ol' DMC3. DMC3's difficulty is significantly higher than the original game's. twitter tyme
Wombat
Also I have to say that Japanese trailers always confuse me because the music seems so inappropriate for the action that's going on. Do you mean the cheap soft ballad-like music in the latter part of the video? I think it fits the seemingly melodramatic love story, making a good contrast to the heavy metal-ish action scenes. I haven't played DMC but the pseudo-operatic devision between the sacred and the damned seems to be traced back to Japanese classic manga Devilman, of which Dicaprio is a fan. If you are into religions, you might find it interesting how an oriental cartoonist Go Nagai interpreted the biblical theme. Tale
Why are the good third person action games never released on PC? It's a genuine shame that the PC does not get Devil May Cry 3, Resident Evil 4, or games such as the Max Payne series. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater." J.E. Sawyer
Why are the good third person action games never released on PC? They usually are released a lot later, but I think it's often because peripherals (other than keyboard/mouse) became less popular in the late 90s/early 2000s for some reason. These games really need to be played with a proper console controller. Also, more than some other games, 3rd person action games of this sort really need a guaranteed 60fps. Playing it on console guarantees that, but it's not as certain on PC. twitter tyme

Is it available anywhere besides Steam. As for Resident Evil 4, I'm playing it right now and the game's difficulty seems to rely on really awful controls. It takes ages to aim at anything with a gamepad. And it's a really crappy port, although all the nice mods went a long way to change that. Max Payne was a crap action game with an interesting gimmick that quickly got old. And whoever wrote the game's story should be shot. Meanwhile, Ninja Gaiden and God Of War are still nowhere to be seen. Edit:@J.E.: I never thought about the fps deal. That is a problem. But meanwhile, my sweet gamepad sits around most of the time gathering dust. If your idea of a good third person action game means only melee ones (you just insulted two of the most popular third person shooters), then you're going to encounter the east-west game platform wall. West likes to make shooters. Eest likes to make everything else. PC games don't really have much of a market in the East, or so it would seem. And one of the two games you mentioned is produced by Sony. That alone should explain why it never came to PC. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater." Pidesco
The worst example of haphazard porting, though, belongs to the game's controls... they're awful! On PlayStation 2, they were near flawless -- easy to learn and easy to access. On PC, however, the default keyboard setup is pure craziness (Escape is the de facto "select" button, which makes no sense whatsoever). Furthermore, Devil May Cry 3's joystick support is terrible. You can't remap the analog sticks on the customization screen regardless of your controller, and none of the gamepads we tried worked correctly with it (The Xbox 360 controller swaps stick commands so that the left stick controls the camera and the right stick controls movement -- ouch!). In an action game like this where a mastery of the controls and the hectic pace is what drives you forward, the PC version's technical shortcomings drastically change its quality. For fans (like me), it's akin to being punched in the face. This what IGN had to say about DMC3's controls on the PC. Ouch. That's a no-buy for me. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend. I want good third person action, both in shooters and melee games. For me that means frantic speed, slick, responsive controls, and a challenge based on good reflexes being a requirement. RE4 is about the complete opposite of that, and Max Payne's combat was a bunch of relatively challenging gunfights made easy by bullet time. Pidesco
I haven't, actually. I was thinking of letting the price go down a little before giving it a go. I hear it runs very smoothly. Kaftan Barlast
Buy it. Buy it now!! The single player is awesome but the co-op is the best in the history of mankind. Me and a friend played through it in two nights and when it was over we cried for a minute and then started over again on the insane difficulty. Now we go around saying things like "This' mah kind o ****!!" and giggling like schoolgirls. I was going to declare Crysis PC game of the year, but GoW beats it with just pure raw action. an on topic: DMC is one of those icky japanese anime-game isnt it? androgynous guys with long white hair and swords? Llyranor
If you can find someone to play with, I'd definitely recommend GoW. It was my GOTY of 2006 thanks to the magnificent co-op campaign. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

Azure79
How does DMC combat compare with Ninja Gaiden? I heard its insanely difficult in higher difficulties, but in the way that you have to survive wave after wave of enemies with no respite. Never played it, so don't know. I really like Ninja Gaiden combat. I should really go back to it and finish Master Ninja Mode. I got stuck on the first level on master ninja. J.E. Sawyer
The DMC4 demo is now out on both Xbox 360 and PS3. It is great. For those who doubted that the "port" to 360 would be plagued by frame tearing, I saw absolutely none. It was running at a solid 60fps. The environments and characters look fantastic, the animation is terrific, and the gun/sword/arm combos are really cool. twitter tyme

Tale
Played the demo. Was not overly impressed. I was kind of expecting more BALLS TO THE WALL! as it were. But, I'm okay with what I saw enough to keep my CE pre-order with Amazon. Now if only I could figure out how to defeat that boss. J.E. Sawyer
Someone on another forum said that the demo is on the equivalent of easy. DMC3 got a lot of flak for being too hard, so I think they tuned the DMC4 demo to baby levels. twitter tyme
Tale
Yeah, I keep hearing it's on easy too. Though supposedly DMC4 isn't as hard as DMC3, it's still supposed to be hard.
