When I get to play Kotor2 again (hopefully with TSLRP), I will keep thinking Omni-Goo everytime I see components and chemicals... “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. February 6, 200817 yr I hate DLC. Why does it always have to cost something? "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

February 7, 200817 yr Because it costs money to make it? It's a nice business solution in order to generate extra revenue. If i would work or have money invested in Bioware, i would applaud it. But in my eyes as a gamer, it should've been included in the original game. Seems like a shallow and cold attitude to milk money from gamers. February 7, 200817 yr If the content is allowed for sale when the game is released, that's what people ought to be angry about. Like, half of Beautiful Katamari is stuff you have to get through DLC. People are complaining because you have to get the DLC to get the achievements. This sort of thing, by contrast, is harmless and legitimate. More like Blahtarian, amirite? o/ Edited February 7, 200817 yr by Pop Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
February 7, 200817 yr Why? Why take away content? Please specify what you really mean. Whereas the sense of entitlement you have is just peachy. Do not concern yourself on what i think am entitled to, my dear "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
February 7, 200817 yr Why take away content? Why do you assume this DLC was content that was originally meant as part of the game but taken away and held back in a greedy attempt at getting more money, and not content that was made specifically as a mini expansion pack? Edited February 7, 200817 yr by Hell Kitty
February 7, 200817 yr ME had plenty of content at release. There is nothing wrong with asking for a few bucks to add a mini-expansion. This is the future of expansions, so folks should get used to it. Releasing an entire expansion and putting it in boxes and then selling it for half the price of a retail game is not really cost effective. Allowing chunks of content to be downloaded for a few bucks is smarter financially and will be faster for us gamers. My only question is: Do I need to play an old saved game to access this stuff? Do I need to start a new game? Is there a way to continue with this content after I've finished the primary story line?
February 7, 200817 yr Why take away content? Why do you assume this DLC was content that was originally meant as part of the game but taken away and held back in a greedy attempt at getting more money, and not content that was made specifically as a mini expansion pack? Working in the software industry has given me enough suspisions about this. It is simply a part of the businessplan to delay the release of certain components in order to release them later, all in all to maximize profit on their investments. Usually, people from the finance and marketing departments call this to empower the consumer, giving him/her more choices. Nothing more, nothing less. MotB was certainly treated as such, but not entirely either, since it had almost enough content for a game on its own. Or, we can just call it greedy, depending on how you see it "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
February 7, 200817 yr Games are a luxury, and the companies that make them are in this to make money. I want companies that make games I enjoy to be profitable. That way they can continue making games. I don't get why anyone would take issue with this. If ME was released incomplete and then wanted to sell you the ending, perhaps complaints would be warranted.
February 7, 200817 yr From the sound of it, the expansion will be implemented just like any other sidequest, ie, it will be available from the galactic map at any time between the New Eden and Virmire missions. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
February 8, 200817 yr Actually, I wouldn't mind spending 4$ for more content. It's just I feel the whole process of getting the MS points is more trouble than actually coming up with the money... I don't get why people accuse businesses of being greedy because heaven forbid they want to make money, especially concerning luxury items, yet fail to see how greedy they are being themselves by accusing the company of taking from them something that was never theirs. When you buy a game you get what's on the disc, you don't earn the right to any and all content they might have made during the production of the game.

Game studios such as Id and Epic were releasing new levels and characters in patches that included way more content than this one for ME, and for free! The reason was simple: They thought that this was expected by the consumers, and charging extra would be downright silly. One could say that creativity took the front seat of the car, and business the back seat. But things have changed now. Business is trying to get to the front seat, and creativity is slipping back. "Hippie" business practices of the old days are gone with the arise of micro-transactions and LIVE subscriptions. My point is, that less content will be in included in the games in future, since it will be planned from the beginning that they will be released as micro-patches. Side-quests will become less and episodic gaming will win more ground. What a waste of creative resources, IMO. /me rolls a joint and picks up an guitar, singing Bob Dylan for himself... February 8, 200817 yr I never cared much for DLC. Once I'm through with a game, I just move on. And I fail to see how some new shallow planet/items/creatures/whatever could improve Mass Effect. Rain makes everything better.

That's the unfortunate cost of progress. ME is a triple-A title and requires a decent sized team to create new content, whereas many games in the 90's could be put together by a small team. I don't want my games to look like Doom anymore, so I'm willing to put up with it. But some games do offer tools to allow new content to be released, like the NWN model. I don't think these will go away fully, so we will always have the option to take advantage of fan-built content.
February 8, 200817 yr As long as there will be PC gaming, there will also be a healthy mod community. And NWN surely wasn't the first game that drove custom content. There's a lot healthier mod scene supported by id, Epic, Valve and Crytek. Rain makes everything better.
February 9, 200817 yr There's a rumour that Mass Effect is coming to the PC. Good news if true. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
February 9, 200817 yr Wishful thinking. Though I admit it makes a lot of sense to make ME for PC as well... I sense EA has something to do with it. "Alright, I've been thinking.
