Sand Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) I have to say that his complaints about quantity of dialog has to be the stupidest complaint one can ever make for a RPG. If the game was a FPS then maybe it would be valid, but ME is a RPG. Man, I hate to see what he would say about PS:T. Hurlshort Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 He's made it pretty clear RPG's aren't his bag. I don't see why you would fault a person for voicing their personal tastes. I wish I made money voicing my opinion.

Moatilliatta Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Does he have a choice in selecting the games that get reviewed? I would think that there is some editor guy who looks at upcoming games and pick those that will get people to listen to Yahtzee.

I would think that there is some editor guy who looks at upcoming games and pick those that will get people to listen to Yahtzee. This is almost assuredly what happens. Aside from Psychonauts he's touched all the big name titles. He's not even technically reviewing in a traditional sense because he's not giving out scores. Oh, and that one Medal of Honor game. Moatilliatta Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Man, I hate to see what he would say about PS:T. I did my usual cursory glance over notable forum threads to get my feedback and it seems some people on one forum that shall remain nameless have been calling me a hypocrite for apparently liking Planescape Torment despite it, too, being a monstrously wordy game. My response: where the hell did you get the impression that I liked Planescape Torment? That, too, I found boring and couldn't get further than the first world. I'm not angry, I'm just confused as to how you made this leap of logic. Admittedly I did show the box art for, like, one second to illustrate a point but I don't remember drawing a big sign over it saying THIS GAME IS AWESOME MMM I WANT IT TO SPUNK IN MY FACE From his blog: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/
Tale Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Those posts settle it, Yahtzee's a goon. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Nick_i_am Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) Man, I hate to see what he would say about PS:T. a) there was very little diolouge in PST that you HAD to read b) very little of the diolouge was a waste of the players time I would imagine that it's not simply a case of him not liking 'too many words' but too many 'what's the freaking point of this' words. It's an art that movies perfected a long time ago given the constraints of time and audience interest. I am however, only talking about diolouge which the player HAS to (or is expected to) engage with, from plot points or party members. Having a large extended world of people to chat with is, of course, a good thing. EDIT: though he didn't seem to actually like PST either, hahahahahahahaha. Volourn Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) "a) there was very little diolouge in PST that you HAD to read b) very little of the diolouge was a waste of the players time" a) If you wnated to get anything wortwhile out of playing PST, you surely had lots to read. Unless... you played PSt for its combat. L0L b) L0L Seriously? You musta played a different PST than i did. A lot of dialogue was wasteful. Geez.. Just that one museuem type place with that goofball who spouts his Blood War nonsense overdulged dialogue spamming. As for ME, being too 'wordy'... Lots of the writing cna be ignored. ie The Codex/Journal. You could play the entire game and just click the stuff on theright side to get to the point of the convo. The 'investigative' type options are all on the left side. If you want to ignore dialogue in ME as much a sposisble; you cna. Though... just like PST, what's the point since one of ME's strengths is it's dialogue (though it has silliness too, heh). I find it a compliment for ME to be considered 'too wordy' when people were just poopooing it as an action rpg in the same way as a BGDA or Diablo is. L0LLIGAGZ! P.S. i do find the review funny though. Give him props for that! Edited December 19, 2007 by Volourn DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I like the part where all there is on the screen is "Words Words Words Words" and occasionall "titties". Though the sex scenes are more "romantic" than porn... at least, I hope. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Just that one museuem type place with that goofball who spouts his Blood War nonsense overdulged dialogue spamming. a) That's a given, but it was never forced upon you (not to say I didn't click on every NPC and read everything). I found the part where Morte gets kidnapped to be pretty lame because of it's 'forced' nature. b) I said a waste of the players time, not wasteful. That is to say, good quality, interesting to read diolouge makes up for it's complete lack of relevence to whatever is going on in the game. Most of it was in some way contextual to the world at hand, esspessaly to someone like me who knew nothing about the Planescape setting (and little about the DnD world). Compared to the completely pointless and forgettable diolouge you'd get from random NPCs in KotoR (and probably Mass Effect, though I havn't played it). For example, the Wardrobe wizard would have been fun to talk to even if he wasn't involved in that quest. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Pop Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Okay, I got distracted there for a few weeks. Here's his review of Super Mario Galaxy from last week. I'm irritated by Nintendo's mother****ery as much as anybody else, but Yahtzee is way off on this one in every way. Here's this week's review of Silent Hill Origins. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Krookie Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I think Medal of Honor Airborne review was the funniest one.

Bokishi Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Yeah I've been listening to this guy a lot now, he rocks.
