Hurlshort Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 If you have any interest in MMO's, I recommend trying out the Lord of the Ring Online open beta. It's pretty awesome, and the questlines feel much more like a single player RPG than a generic MMO quest. How do you like it compared to Vanguard? That's a difficult question to answer, as I really loved what Vanguard was trying to do. LotR is a much simpler game. I'm not saying it doesn't have depth, but it's just an easier game overall. It shares a lot in common with WoW in terms of catering to the casual player and making it possible to accomplish something in 30 minutes. That said, the production values of the quests surpass WoW tenfold. Also, for thos who complain about cartoony graphics, this game looks much better. Vanguard is a much more difficult game in many ways. Crafting is a matter of mathematics, luck, and skill. Crafting in LotR is simply "gather and complete recipe." This means pretty much everyone in LotR will max out their crafting if they are the least bit interested, whereas only the true crafters will reach the heights in Vanguard. Vanguard has housing, flying mounts, sailing, and a gigantic gameworld. LotR promises housing will be down the line, and eventually the world might be huge, but it's not there yet. The problem is Vanguard is a master of none of these things. It's very buggy all around, and it doesn't run well on many computers. They have implemented everything but very little is perfect. LotR has implement much less, but it's very refined and easy to play. I know LotR is the better product NOW, but 6 months from now, it might be played out. It will really depend on how good Turbine will be at releasing new content. They were awesome with Asheron's Call, so I'm hoping for success. It's looking like this will sell well too, whereas Vanguard is currently on life support. That's important for development, as they need a good cash influx to keep thing going after retail.

Tale Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) Almost at the final boss for Xenosaga Episode II. Going to do some quick homework, come back, load up on sugar and caffiene based drinks from the local Racetrac convenient store, then I'm pulling an all nighter just to get to start Episode III. I don't have anything important to be cognizant for in class tomorrow. Edited April 20, 2007 by Tale "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Kor Qel Droma Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I just started playing Guitar Hero 2. **** me do I need to practice!! Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
Llyranor Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I can barely go through the songs on Easy Normal is pretty hard, especially with the 4th note coming into play. I just have difficulty coordinating 4 notes together. Much less 5. 3 is fine. Coop is awesome. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Dark_Raven Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Fallout! Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

First I thought Heart Shaped Box was hard on the medium setting. Then I tried Message In A Bottle. Not good. Not good at all. By I notice my one eye is gandering in the direction of that mini electronic Gibson SG... Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.

Oerwinde Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 I'm currently juggling Final Fantasy XII, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., 3rd playthrough of NWN2, and City of Heroes. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

For those not in the know of the background of Xenogears/Xenosaga Abel is the original incarnation of he who be become Fei Fong Wong, the main character of Xenogears so does the plot tie into Xenogears (finially) You kind of have to look at it as a different continuity. The ship you are on and see destroyed in Xenosaga I is the ship Deus takes control over and is self-destructed in the opening of Xenogears, the Woglinde. And that's just one example of where the two series diverge. Abel isn't exactly the same Abel we all know from what I've read. Though it does start to really follow the Xenogears backstory that was laid out in Perfect Works. For those not in the know of the background of Xenogears/Xenosaga Abel is the original incarnation of he who be become Fei Fong Wong, the main character of Xenogears Okay, so I just realized that wasn't Abel. That was Kevin. Though, Abel appears later. I definitely like the compromised art style of the characters. It's a compromise between the cartoony, yet recognizeable, Episode I designs, and the too realistic to look like what we're used to Episode II designs. Kor Qel Droma Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I spent most of the afternoon redoing the first gig of GH2 on medium. I pulled off four stars for Surrender, then duplicated that at the next show with Heart Shaped Box. Man is this game fun! Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
theslug Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I was so bored and so desperate today I started playing Jade Empire again. I had beaten it as an open palm/fast dude when it first came out. So I started a new game as a balance/open palm since even in video games I find it hard to be a bad person. It's just not natural. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

kalimeeri Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 About halfway through Shivering Isles in Oblivion, and enjoying it--although it is nice to be able to escape back to Cyrodiil for a little normalcy once in a while. The 'madness' is done with a fine touch, and some of the traps inside the ruins are absolutely fiendish ... but good fun. The new monsters are giving my level 31 marksman a run for his money. On the downside, SI seems to have annoyed my game installation, giving me occasional 'stutters' as if there's a huge memory leak. I don't think that's the expansion's fault; other people are running it just fine. I almost think it's a conflict somewhere in my sound drivers, which I've noticed are getting peevish in their old age (M-Audio hasn't updated them since 2004). Not quite sure what to do about that; and no, Creative is NOT an option. Their drivers are a curse, make mud pies of my music. That aside, people who install the SI expansion should be aware that there is a potentially serious bug that can corrupt save games; nothing like losing three level 30+ characters, lol. Apparently the expansion did not introduce a new bug, just accentuated one that was already there. Bethesda has released a beta patch, but it can't be applied if your game version is up to date (must do a full reinstall to make it work). Running an unofficial mod will correct it, for the time being. If you're into Oblivion, play SI for sure, but beware.
Tale Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Sill playing Xenosaga Episode III and I have to share something. I just fought Weltall. Of course, he's called Omega Universitas now. I didn't recognize him at first, but he's mainly blue, has the pods on his back, has Weltall's combat stance, and the pods opened up like Id. Only they were a bit flashier with that. mkreku Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I got so fired up from flaming away at the Bethesda boards that I've gone and re-installed Fallout 2 again. It's still fun and it makes my heart ache for a new adventure in the same (or similar) setting. I really hope Bethesda can come through. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Slowtrain Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I got about halfway through my Fallout game, then got kinda bored and put it aside. So then I went out and got the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion. So now I am playing a new game of Oblivion, but I haven't installed SHivering Isles yet until the final patch for it is released. I woudl be playing STALKER actually, but I am waiting for their patches as well. SO actually I am not really currently playing anything I guess, merely waiting for patches. swell Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
