Dolph Lundgren did a great action spoof, too (Men of War?) I still remember him being shot in the knee and then immediately standing up using that knee. Excerrent.

So many people have been harping after Stallone to stop making unrealistic films, well, this one is the most realistic of all of his œuvre, and (my low expectations notwithstanding), was a pretty pedestrian affair.

 

(Instead of the female lead saying to Rocky "Win!", she says "Fight!", and this is indicative of the change of perspective ... if you keep on getting up again after being knocked down, then you are a winner, regardless of the result.)

 

 

Just re-watching Deep Impact, actually I bought this because it was really cheap; next I'll re-watch Full Metal Jacket and the remake of The Poseidon Adventure (which were both also cheap).

Oh, c'mon! It had a few good bits. I thought the opening credits were pretty cool (except for the atrocious Madonna song, that is), and the diamond studded guy looked pretty nifty. And Halle Berry is hawt!

How many times have you seen it? When was the last time? I saw it at the theater thought it was pretty good and then today on DVD. :x

 

However I do agree about Halle Berry. What a piece of ass. ;)

I mean what a quality actress.

I've been catching up on my 2006 releases, this week, with A Prairie Home Companion, The Queen, Pan's Labyrinth - which are as good as everyone keeps blathering - and The Prestige - which is incredibly watchable - as well as OSS 117, which surprised me - as I didn't know anything about the film prior to seeing it (my friend and I were bored so what the hell we thought; it was fairly cheap) - and my expectations, looking at the poster, were low: Dujardin's pose was awkward and we weren't 100% sure it was a comedy - I know, I know: obvious! still, like, whatever; I'd recommend watching it (I read somewhere that Dujardin's going to be the next Lucky Luke; rather pumped about that, myself), it's very well executed, and you don't get that many decent satires, plus, there are some actually funny scenes: Lucien badgering Slimane to go faster, faster, on the scooter, under the blueish filter, etc.

 

Caught The Librarian II today - formulaic drivel, of course, and Indiana did it better, still, Anwar used to look good, though that's been belittled - in recent times - by the "for her age" extension; um, Bob Newhart looks dead.

 

My inner nerd made me watch The 4400, Heroes, and Eureka; Heroes is pretty good, and the other two do have their moments from time to time, but whatever - I watched Being There yesterday; Hal Ashby is my hero (well, no, not really, but still); I do believe the last scene is a musing on Messianic figures and their insight (or lack thereof), but I could be wrong; Sellars' nifty - I've recently seen The Mouse That Roared, and After the Fox; the first is definitely better, but you'd probably get cinema nerd points by picking a De Sica.

The Wicker Man: Includes Ending Not Shown In Theaters!

 

Total garbage. Not sure of the ending shown in theaters but in this one

he gets captured, hobbled, and put into the head of a giant man made of, well, wicker. The whole thing is then set ablaze as a sacrifice for last years poor crop.

 

 

I mean seriously, this cult of women plans YEARS ahead to dupe a guy into coming to the island JUST IN CASE they have a bad crop one year and need to burn him up in a sacrifice? Lamest. Plot . Evar.

That wasn't too bad - but it wasn't really good either.

World Trade Center was better than United93, as far as those types of movies go. Less sensationalist perhaps. Not that I loved that one either. I still can't believe how many reviewers gave it 5 stars and such. :dry: Maybe 3.

Watched Kung Fu Hustle yesterday. Absolutely horrible voice acting and dubbing but it adds to the over the top comedy theme of the movie. The movie is basically comedy/action. Its really fast and fun with good choreographed fights and good cgi. It took me a few minutes to settle into the films style but I ended up really liking it. The film follows a young asian fellow who wants to be apart of the notorious axe gang so he can live the high life with his timid fat friend, its mostly placed in this small housing/shopping complex owned by a crazy landlord lady who beats the crap out of people. Some tenants basically whoop the leader of the axe gangs ass and set off a rivalry in which the axe gang does everything they can to defeat them.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

I don't know, it seemed kind of obvious to me. SHe feels World Trade Centre is better than United 93.

 

I found it funny that shortly after the release of United 93, the official transcripts of everything that was said and recorded on the black box of United 93 was released to the public.
