mkreku
http://www.economist.com/theworldin/intern...=8166790&d=2007 Apparently you can compete in democracy. Sweden won. The country whose leader declared them as the lighthouse of democracy in the world in a speech came in.. 17'th. "Sweden, a near-perfect democracy, comes top, followed by a bevy of similarly virtuous northern European countries. More surprising are the relatively modest scores for two traditional bastions of democracy Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish! Sand
Perhaps it is the fact that Sweden's government actually does it job. Govern for the good of all citizens within its borders, unlike the US whose government is there to benefit only those who runs the government and the money that placed them in authority. taks
socialism can exist within democracy, i.e. government is not dictated by socialism (though it is self-destructive anyway). it is the most moronic economic system ever invented. taks comrade taks... just because. taks
btw, sweden is not completely socialist, either. it has a very heavy capitalist influence and an abundance of natural resources that "fund" its social programs. as for anyone that claims to like taxes... well, you're probably not capable of figuring out what i think of that. hehe. taks comrade taks... just because. WITHTEETH
Yes our civil liberties have always been screwed up. And just when you think their about to get better we get neo cons in the mix who want to ban everything like stem cell research, abortions, gay rights, some even contraceptives. And with the neo conservatives in power and their close ties to the religious right, its making religion more popular. And the fundementalist.... I won't even get started. The US is a mess currently. It could be worse, though surprisingly. Congrats to the Swedes, hopefully the rest of the world looks at them for an example! Always outnumbered, never out gunned! metadigital
Hee hee, the British police have just announced that they are (electronically) fingerprinting motorists who are caught speeding (to aid identification, naturally), and my barber was raided a few weeks ago by a half-dozen police who tore his shop up and searched his garden looking for drugs, then (upon not finding any, naturally) they left without an apology. (Apparently he was telling me that if someone is caught on the premises with some contraband, the owner of the property is liable.) No country has more CCTV cameras. And no-one seems to mind. I fear for the society. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

Gorgon
Only in the most forgiving sense of the word, which is exactly why you need to measure and monitor things like freedom of the press, participation, openess of government, corruption, accessibility etc. If all you need is voting, China and Cuba are democracies as well. You just disproved your own point, congratulations. Edited November 23, 2006 by Gorgon Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
