NWN2 Discussion Thread

Roshan is a save game size specialist and he knows exactly how big any game's saves need to be. :)

Also, I'll repeat that my final save game is 148 megs. I wouldn't call that too big.

Of course its stupid. Theres no reason why a save game should take up so much space.

You repeat yourself however you have still failed to explain why the size of NWN2 savegames is stupid? Why can't savegames be 150MB in size in a world where 250GB drives are common in new desktop computers and cheap external hard drives make it easy to have extra storage room on any laptop or desktop for that matter?

Do you know the reason why savegames are this particular size and if you do then please explain exactly what Obsidian has done wrong?

I shouldn't have to.  My NWN2 files should be in my NWN2 folder.  Such as my Oblivion files should be in my Oblivion folders.  Like files in like folders.  Makes good sense to me.

Why don't you put your My Documents on your game drive, and just do typical Save As for your Word and other documents on your C drive?

Of course I repeat myself. Theres no reason why NWN2 should take so much space for a saved game given that its completely linear when other games that have a lot more information to save take much less. Its ridiculous and it shows that Obsidian cant even come up with an efficient way to save games.

Why should Hades have to change the entire way he uses his computer just because of NWN2?

MS did not make NWN2. They ahve nothing to do with NWN2. To blame them for NWN2's weaknesses or give them credit for NWN2's weaknesses is beyond a cop out.

It's Obsidian as the developer, and Atari as the publisher who are the ones to complain to.

Period.

But MS are the ones who require personal game info to be stored in the My Documents folder, which is one of the things Roshan is complaining about.

But that wouldnt be an issue if the save games werent so massive.

Also it doesnt make sense that the game box would say that it needs 5.5 GB of space, and then the game takes up 10 GB. (And requires an additional 7 GB to patch!)

No. Require? Are they telling Obsidian do it or else we will kill you? No, they don't require. If its a requirement for it to work on Vista (or whatevr); that's a choice that Obsidian has to make. Obsidian's choice, Obsidian's deal, Obsidian's problem.

150 MB a save game means yo have at least 30 save games for NWN2. What the hell is the point of having that many save games?

Blame Obsidian with their 'safe often and havemultiple save slots' advice in the load screens. :D

Personally, I tedn to have 2-3 saved games ata time.

Also, don't forget with NWN2 you could have various modules as well as the OC running which likely adds up...

Geez, I must be weird. I have saves 1-5, Optional, Level Up (in case I want to go back later and revisit feats and skill choices), Autosave, and Quicksave.

Even so, don't forget that the OC is a pretty big campaign, and as such most save games would never reach 150 MB. So that 30 save games estimate is actually a low estimate. More likely Roshan has like 50 or even 60 save games. I would probably have had to save the game in my first playthrough, every single time to a different slot, to get that many save games. It's ridiculous.

Heh. I tend to save every five minutes as I am always worried about crashes 9though NWN2 only crashed for me) so I would have likely have had 100s if not 100s of saved games. Heh.

I have 30 saved games at about 100 MB each, for a total of 3 GB. I havent progressed to the very end of the game yet. In fact I think I have quit since I havent played for two days now.

The main folder of the game alone takes up 6.5 GB.

What's the point of having that many saved games?

I fail to see the logic in having two different game directories on the computer. One in my Program Files and the other, with the saved games in My Documents. Stupid Vista if you ask me.

I think playing a straight fighter/mage would be better. EN and the Pale Master are not leveling up that fast with spells. My first game (EN) I will not be able to have level 9 spells and so far PM on my second game doesn't look that great either.

It's because of different accounts in one computer or in a network, where the user doesn't have access to the game's folder, but has access(obviously) to his documents folder.

I hate it because I install all my games in C:\Games\Game Folders anyway, and it makes My Docs cluttered, but it's certainly better for casual users, who know that they aren't touching any files that could screw up the game program.

Having 30 saves is pointless. Up to 5-10? Sure. I only have 2.
