metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 With all the OE-brand developers that seem to be frequenting the here (mainly C&C forum, afaict), I cna't help but think there are only two reasons. They want to be here. They have to be here. So, either they are here because they have some free time (that wasn't available before), or there is some hidden directive to improve PR. Ignoring the latter possibility for a moment, maybe a development milestone has been reached? Some game (PNJ? the mysterious "third IP") has completed some development stage, and is merely waiting for due non-development process to proceed ... BattleCookiee Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Some game (PNJ? the mysterious "third IP") has completed some development stage, and is merely waiting for due non-development process to proceed ... Don't think so. If the dev-stage of PNJ was finished we would have alot more info on the game, after all there is no chance that what they tell us that will be inside will not be inside then, and they could give an awsum representation of the features included and give screenshots to show what it looks like... But since UT2007 comes End 2006, and other UE3 will probably be released after that (remember HL2-Vampire issue) it is way too early to be anywhere near being completed. If there is a game that ended dev-stage it would be NWN2...
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 I didn't mean completed developed. I meant an intervening stage in the development process had been achieved. It seems like the devs have had a chance to get out and wash the anxieties and relieve the eye-strain of micro-development ... which is what I tend to do when I reach some sort of milestone (because on the way to a milestone there is little time to waste in the all-consuming urge to achieve it). BattleCookiee Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Besides Sawyer, the most devs I see pop up here are from the QA department (but this may be Joseph just doing a great job of "being there" )... so maybe all the bugs are squashed, or they got backup (See Josephs post in PNJ forums about new testers every week) and thus have more time to go here... Or I am just wrong :D
SteveThaiBinh Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 ...or there is some hidden directive to improve PR. It would make sense to do this shortly before they release the first bits of news about PNJ - the title and publisher would be nice, I suppose. I don't think that what we've seen looks co-ordinated, though. Maybe QA have identified such a mountain of bugs that they've been told to hold off until the devs can catch up. BattleCookiee Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Or the testers need a newly re-installed PC due to a mass hit of "PoR2 bugs" and thus spend their time waiting for reinstal/security/fixing/getting the code on it/supply of supper secret dev stuff used for debugging... [/even worse pessimism]
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 I've seen quite a few green ids, not just QAs and JES, and I agree it doesn't look coordinated (memo: if it is meant to be you better re-start those corporate "one-team, one-message" breakfasts) so I think it's just a little steam-venting and (dare I say it) some gratuitous enjoyment on the part of the OE staff ... similar to what might be expected after completing stage two of thirteen in the dev cycle, as the guys cool their heels before the suits orchestrate whatever flashy marketing campaign, stage two, is to be rolled out. [/even worse pessimism] This is almost close to my excuse for being on here more recently. Sometimes I find a problem that has to be fixed before I can do much. If I'm going to have to play a waiting game for half an hour while a dev gets something fixed, might as well chat on here and do something positive. My blood! I wonder what bugs could require immenent Dev-changing before proceding If you blew/messed up the PC, you can take another one. If the area is severly messed up skip to another place. Ofcourse this counts on the fact they have multiple PC's/Sections of the game ready for the QA-tester.... Not that you are not welcomed here (FAR from), just wondering why it isn't just possible to test something else...
