KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Oh ok lol, I see well... I have been up for 24 hours, I can miss a few details.

Sorry :D

I thought when i mentioned force jumping It would be in effect negating some of the phased based fighting if anything, got used to that groovy jump pack in Bounty Hunter.

Oh and I vote A.

That style of game play belongs in turn base or phase based games, not real time twitchfests.  The phase based system they used in KotOR 1 and 2 is as close to real time I want to get in a CRPG.

I agree with you for KOTOR. It's not meant to be a twitch fest. I would like however a better and faster way to select and use powers/items/mines/grenades. Now if we want to switch powers, we must pause or hold down the right mouse button and then click on little up/down arrow until we get what we want. And everytime a new fight starts in a new zone, it must be done all over again. Grr.

Well just set the action key as an optional stop that you do not have to use, and set up your powers on (optional hot keys) like the number buttons next to home key. That way its optional phased based instead of mandatory.... personally I can do without to auto stops.. just as long as it autosaves before I get whacked. Or for more programming pains just set a 3 option toggle at the games startup, A. real time B. Phased C.Turn based ...... I don't see this happening but there you go. But with turn based you end up with final fantasy star wars tactics (twich).

Well I've always loved turn-based a lot more than Realtime, both in RPGs and stratedy games. Those games are fun yet relaxing. When you come home from work after a 10 hour shift, running around at lightning speeds down corridors shooting at things that jump in your face or trying to group a bunch of tiny units into groups of long and short range attackers in order to counter a fast attack attempt from your enemy are not stress free fun ideas to me.

I'm old.

Well thats why I wanted to game to be larger with more character types to develop, to benefit to aggressive and non agressive player. I found it odd that if I played my character good (boring) my choices still ended up being A. Kill alot of people B. Kill alot of people. If I played as evil I had the same choices exept someone would say, are you Sure you want to kill all those poeple. So its either OK murder in the name of good or Bad murder. I couldn't help but think why can't I a good Jedi just force persuade these people to all think their roosters or little pigs or something. My problem was that the mind control powers only ever came into play when the story arc decided it was ok for you to use them. If I have mind control and mind trick powers then hey, I wanna use them when (I) need to. If you need to slow down combat just push the action key alot or after every attack or something, probably won't be converted to turn based at any point though. Sounds like you don't like button smashing, what they could do is in the game options set it to auto stop after each successful blow/attack. I though they had something similar to that in K2 though, but I think it was an auto target after every battle other than every single attack. But with the amount of enemies in Kotor turn based would take forever..... Jekk Jekk Tar bar would have taken an eternity that way.

 I agree 100%

Now, just a question.

I'm just arrived now here. I'm trying to read all the posts in this topic (very intresting but it's impossible to read everything: more that 46 pages only here!): there will be a nr. III or not?

thanx

Go see the Obsidian General forum for that question.

The answer could change soon however, as Obsidian has posted a job offer for a lead game designer for a starting RPG project.

Speculators are screaming K3.

@The Architect ... can I vote twice? - My first vote goes to "K" - I don't really want ot play Revan or Exile again in a new game, but we need to wrap up their story.

My alternate vote goes for "J" - with this caveat ... the "main stoyrline quest" could be for a new Jedi (your PC) to track down Revan and Exile (they don't join your party until the end of the game)

... the lead-up to the final level would involve discovering the big "threat" everyone's warned us about, actually finding Revan and Exile (separately), and convincing them to join you (or killing them)

... the final level would be confronting the "threat" (either with or without their help).

Exactly what I want to see as well. Can't remember if I voted for "J" already, but if not, I will now.

I'd rather explore Sith space in at least half the game (we need to see a little of republic, definitely Coruscant, and I'd like Alderaan, Sleheyron and Myrkr as well). I'd like to see Sith worlds like Khar Delba/Khar Shian (where Naga Sadow had his secret base) and naturally Ziost (the throneworld of the Sith, where the dark lord rules from).

there are a number of ways they can salvage KOTOR-style combat as we know it (it is basically "Active Turn Based" or "Quick Turn Based").

they cannot, however, leave it just the way it is. your squad members are almost worthless in the present situation IMO.

here is how they can salvage it:

* better AI (yeah, that's a no-brainer)

* SQUAD COMMANDS that temporarily override the individual AI.

* better ranged weapons on the high end (while still nerfing them on the low end).

* more squad-based tactics (i.e. flashbang grenades while your squad members are all wearing protective eyegear).

* more and better area-effect weapons and devices (sentry guns that the Tech Specialist can set up, grenades that have a continuous effect, etc).

* purchasable combat droids (including melee-oriented ones).

* more and better melee feats including defensive feats.

* the ability to advance in a specific fighting form.

* dual-classing and prestige classes for non-adepts.

i would really like to see dwonloadable content for KOTOR 3. there was yavin 4 (kinda) for KOTOR 1

Yavin 4 was a bit of a letdown IMHO.

Still, I did have what I considered the toughest fight in the game - those Trandoshans were no pushovers!

what are you talking about that was the most exciting hallway ever :o

that was one burn rodian or was he just old?

How about having an own Jedi Starfighter!? Being able to dock on to the Ebon Hawk, leaving your party whenever you want, to explore some Regions of the Galaxy and landing on some Planets.

actually, I like that idea. K1 has already established that Jedi use small starfighters at this point in galactic history, so I don't see a continuity problem.

I like the idea of the PC having to go off and speak to his mentor (and it doesn't have to be Yoda) alone and to take his single-passenger starfighter....meanwhile, the PC's padawan becomes Acting Captain of the Ebon Hawk....that would be a good way to do a multithreaded sequence.

Good stuff. Especially the jedi starfighter idea. Best I've heard in a while.

HK47: Commentary: It is not possible to destroy the master. It is suggested that you run while my blasters warm, meatbags.

Bastila to Revan: You are easily the vainest, most arrogant man I have ever met!

Canderous to Bastila: Insults? Maybe if your master had trained your lightsaber to be as quick as your tongue you could have escaped those Vulkars, you spoiled little Jedi princess!
