OK to be specific not JE, but the Video ame industry uses sex in their video games all the time. Video games aren't just for kids anymore, and some people like sex, call me crazy, I'm one of them.

Yeah, but every article put out about the booth babes by the media is not an article put out about a game.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you pay more attention to articles about booth babes when you're searching for articles about games?

That's what I have my porn for. :p

Furthermore, how many "smaller" game studios have the $$$$ to bring out the booth babes to draw out a crowd.  I wouldn't mind a bit more exposure to other games.

So? By that logic, you could ban the use of plasma displays larger than certain dimensions, sound equipment more powerful than a random standard, giving out promotional gifts, or whatever.

Again, I don't approach or get away from a stand depending on booth babes.

It's nice to look at them alright, but for the most part, I just don't care about them. The ruling itself is stupid because it's anachronic. You can have games that allow you to splatter somebody's guts and brains all over the wall, but you can't have girls in bikini on the same stand.

Mindboggling idiocy, alright.

Are you serious? If a company cant afford a few hundred dollars in advertising, they have MUCH bigger problems then losing crowds to other vedors that can afford it.

What d umb, lazy, and pathetic decision by the E3 Masters.

Why can't why we geeky ugly freaks of nature have both are precious games and are precious women in the same palce at the same time?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Meh.

P.S. Not sexist, because I say have overrated hunky (puke) men out there for the geeky ugly freaky girls so it's all fair.

Sex sells. Anyone that thinks differently has blinders on to the world. It's no different then if you go to a car show of some sort and see so many half naked women walking around you become desensitized to it after awhile. And while I see where Josh is coming from, I can't say I agree. I'm more in line with GOA's post. A hot babe in a bikini might make me walk over to the booth (in which it has served its purpose) but if the game is boring or whatever I'm not going to my waste my time there. I'll just move on.

Any developer that thinks it's taking away from the games is being a little naive. People that go to these conventions go there because they like video games and want to see the latest games and technology available, or what is on the horizon that will be coming soon. Not to see babes. For example, when I go to Comic-Con I'm going there because I love comics. The thought of seeing some hot blonde in a thong standing at the Top Cow booth never even enters my mind. But if she's there, I'm not gonna complain :p

The bottom line is, the booth babes do not in any way detract from the attention of the games, nor do they add to them. They are window dressing, nothing more. And anyone that is too taken by a booth babe to notice the game that is on display is probably not the kind of person that would buy your game to begin with.

@ WITHTEETH

Dude.....................eww.

@ People who dislike booth babes because they think those fine ladies distract prospective buyers from their wares.

I stare at the girls, sure, but that's because I'm a 17-year-old male. It's in the job description. If given the choice between spending time with a gorgeous model and the latest, best games...I'll take the model. Of course, that's if I'm not at a place I've gone to specifically to see said games...and have paid money to enter. I'll keep on staring, and will long after I've left the immediate booth area, but at E3, the games win out.

As has been said, if a scantily clad woman can take my attention away from the game...which is supposed to be "teh uber awesum"...then there's a problem. They add atmosphere...and are a very pleasant background.

That......and they're barely clothed, hot chicks......what guy in his right mind wouldn't want one around?

As a side note to expand on the quoted part of Volourn's post, I've never understood why it's such a big deal to have scandily clad women running around as advertising bait. I don't get upset or feel exploited if they have some muscular man with his shirt off advertising something.

It's obvious. There's a finite amount of resources to go around. Therefore, there's a finite amount of articles to write. Every article written about the booth babes, is not one being written about the games. Or worse yet, collectively a little bit less written about every game.

I don't go to E3 to watch the girls. I do that when I go clubbing, each weekend.

Then this has zero effect on you.

Yes, I am serious.

If you're so interested in the games though, why is it a concern to any of you?

I think it's clear that not many of you have been to E3.

Even if you claim that you have no problems concentrating on the games, it's quite obvious you haven't even noticed the people around you.

Meh, the budget going into that crap should be put into making a less idiotic industry. Morons.

Well said, Herr Llyranor. For example, I don't want to find out how much money Activision put into this distent Vampire-Promo-Event in 2004 with all the chicks and producers doing lavish things... and then don't have the money to pay Troika back.

Ohhh, I guess this leads into another inevitable "Troika vs. teh evil publisher" fight now. :p"

Otherwise, I wish the E3 would become slimmer in general so that new devs with their first product actually get a chance for attention.

What gaming news source writes an article entirely about booth babes and doesn't mention the game they advertise?

Because if you actually know of any, I'd like to know too, so I can avoid them.

Pretty much. That's irrelevant, though. The decision affecting me does not change the fact that it's a hypocritical, anachronical, and random ruling. Why don't they ban short skirts or tight pants too?

And if I was a marketing guy, then it would affect me, as it would make my job harder for no good reason.

Well, I have never been to E3, that's true. But I've been to comic fairs where there's a lot of these booth girls, and instances of much more sexually provocative lure than girls in bikini. So... whatever.

I might me mistaken but didn't IGN write up some articles which showcased E3 babes exclusively, while writing other articles about E3 itself?

I'm suspicious of the reasoning behind the new rule, but somehow I can't think that anything but good will come of it. Except the chorus of whines from kidlets who haven't figured out yet how to use the internet to find porn any time they want it - but it's such sweet music! Mmmm.

I am following my fish.

The difference from Comic Con is that E3 has never been intended as a consumer show. It's for press, publishers, developers, and retailers -- which is why the E3 folks actively try to restrict attendance. When I have difficulty navigating the floor because a string of obviously not-industry people are waiting to have their picture taken with a Lara Croft model, I want to throw grenades under them.

By the way, I actively oppose sexualization of characters unless that's a fundamental part of their design. I fought the valkyrie design for Seven Sorrows every step of the way. During the development of Black Hound, I had to repeatedly call attention to the fact that male versions of armor were absurdly different from the female versions. A suit of hide armor on a male human looked like it came from an eskimo. The same suit put on a female human looked like an Amazonian bikini.

If anyone out there didn't know this, I'll let you in on an internet secret: there are many pictures on the internet of women wearing less than a bikini!!! You don't even have to buy a game to look at them!!!

I dont fully understand this question so Ill just stab in the dark. If your question meant:

Why is it a concern of mine that hot chicks arent in the booths any more? Its not. I dont attend these shows so Im totally unaffected by the ruling. I was simply addressing your sophmorish attempt at a legitimate reason for banning said advertisement.

If thats not your question, then I got nothing.
