Volourn Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 "yes, e'en NWN...you may like it" WOW! That's a positve outlook for you. (w00t) Anyways, I vote for JE and NWN. The other games suck, are ancient, or both. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

The other games suck, are ancient, or both. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So Volourn, do you have the same opinion as most people here that the OC in NWN sucks? I know NWN can be an enjoyable game if you take advantage of the other features the game has to offer, like creating modules, playing fan made modules and doing multi-player. I however am looking for a good single player RPG, one that involves a good story and good gameplay. I did start NWN at one time and didn't make it very far. Think I made a Sorcerer and got him lvl 10 before I stopped playing. And I would have to agree with most people here that the OC isn't all that great. If you get beyond the OC and into SoTU and HoTU does the story get better? If that's the case then I may either try and play through the OC again or download some modules, like the Pirates of the Sword Coast mod, that would get my character up high enough to enter into the OC of SoTU and HoTU.

Volourn Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 "So Volourn, do you have the same opinion as most people here that the OC in NWN sucks?" I like the OC. It's no FO or BG or PST for sure; but it's not a bad little game. It definitely gets way too much flak in my opinion. It has some real bad points (resting, mass production of eqiupment, not a personable enough story from the PC's point of view) and good points (pretty good use of skills espicially comapred to most non FO RPGs, several quests, and character creation that only TOEE could rival)... Anyways, that's my opinion. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
GhostofAnakin Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I think I'm one of the select few that actually agrees with Volo's opinion of the NWN OC. I thought it was good. Not great, not once-in-a-lifetime, but good. "Console exclusive is such a harsh word." - Darque"Console exclusive is two words Darque." - Nartwak (in response to Darque's observation)
metadigital Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 The end of SoU was pretty disapointing. Aside from that, I thought it was good. The HotU expansion was pretty cool, it just got silly with the ph4t lewt magic at the end. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

Volourn Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 "Volourn thinks JE takes 20-30 hours to beat, and defends the NWN OC." Go play Dungeon Siege and Pools of Radiance 2. Those games are more to your liking, I believe. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

Setzer Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Volourn thinks JE takes 20-30 hours to beat, and defends the NWN OC. Egad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, from what I understand, if you do *everything* instead of going straight through, only following the main storyline, the game can take you upwards of 20hrs to finish. I don't know this to be fact because I have not played JE but this seems to be the consensus from all the reviews I've read. This also brings up something else I've read about JE as well as KOTOR 2 that is dissapointing. It seems in both of these games your character can become ridiculously powerful and the game becomes too easy. Not sure if this is true or not but one reviewer stated he beat the last boss in JE in less than 30sec....a couple of moves and the game was over. Personally, I like games that present a challenge to the player, not to a point where you want to smash the monitor or throw your controller at the TV but challenging enough where it actually requires you to strategize how you're going to beat your enemy. I also read that both of these games have terrible endings but that doesn't bother me as much as the lack of challenge these games supposedly offer.
Volourn Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 "It seems in both of these games your character can become ridiculously powerful and the game becomes too easy." KOTOR2 is easy throughout no matter what you do or use. JE is easy only if you use one or two moves that are over powerful. Jade Golem I look at you. "I also read that both of these games have terrible endings" You read wrong. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Walsingham Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I'd suggest starting up a really well thought out character in BG1, and following through to BG2. Don't forget to use the Tales of the Sword Coast addition, and play all through Durlag's tower. You will appreciate BG2 much more knowing your character started out as a pimply nervous sort who had trouble getting into fisticuffs with kobolds. Plus the weird side events are excellent. As are some of the NPCs. Another thought: You may even be able to construct the Big Metal Unit. ~~~ NWN OC: Is possibly the worst campaign I can recall playing. Even including the PnP ones we made when we were fourteen. I can't remember a single interesting character or any twist, forks, or even curves in the plot. It was like riding a train. In England. And having to mop trolls to pay your way. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. Setzer Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Another thought: You may even be able to construct the Big Metal Unit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well....ummmm...errr...I kinda made those pantaloons needed from BG1 appear in my inventory so I was able to construct the Big Metal Unit. :D

You will anger the gods! I didn't entirely deserve the golden pantaloons, because I only went into the Friendly arm Inn to get Khalid and Jaheira to join my party so I could feed them poison and take their kit. So when I heard tell of the Big metal Unit I had to reload BG1 and go back there specially. Then re-start BG2. "It wasn't lies. EnderAndrew Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 "It seems in both of these games your character can become ridiculously powerful and the game becomes too easy."Overall KOTOR:2 was really easy, but there were a couple difficult fights were I had to reload. I never had to reload in Jade Empire, and I didn't use Jade Golem. I mainly just used Legendary Strike or my sword."I also read that both of these games have terrible endings" Jade Empire's ending was simple and predictable. I wouldn't call it terrible. KOTOR:2's ending wasn't finished, but could have been quite good.
Volourn Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 "but could have been quite good." I could have had billions of dollars if I ws Bill Gate's son. But, I'm not so I'm not. Duh. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

EnderAndrew Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I think when you want to, you cast logic aside and stonewall people. I also like to believe you don't do this out of ignorance, but as a trolling tactic for personal enjoyment. Knowing this, the tactic doesn't bother me most of the time. Here you are displaying sound logic. You've got a valid point. The ending was not good, and even defenders of the game must admit that.
