Aaaalright, just to set the record straight...BioWare did not develop KotOR 2. Obsidian Entertainment did. Additionally, BioWare is highly unlikely to develop KotOR 3, what with the new intellectual properties we are busy developing (ie. Jade Empire, Dragon Age).

James Henley said it.

And this

You might want to brush up on your forum etiquette, or this thread will follow the other into lockdown in short order.

As Charamei stated, the place to talk about this is on Obsidian's boards, if you actually want it seen. If you truly feel the need to continue to talk about it here, that's fine and dandy. Do so civilly, but please do not expect KotOR 3 to be done by BioWare. :shade:

Hope its useful because I had to memory search for my username and password :)

The latter post does seem to imply that Obsidian are indeed the developers of KOTORIII but maybe I'm just reading into it.

(full history in the KOTORIII after KOTORII sticky)

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

Or it could be that the story/general fan ideas are being collected and collated by OE for and on behalf of LA, on the off chance that LA commission a sequel, as the final part of the OE developers' contract.

All that states is that at this time BIO isn't doing it. Duh. And, the BIO is just suggesting that because Obsidian did KOTOR2 they are at this time most likely the ones doing KOTOR3. I don't think he's implying anything.

Yes I am afraid bioware is NOT doing Kotor III :) we all have to turn our hopes to obsidian now.The answer is on the bioware boards apparently they are too bizzy with dragon age? how can a company turn down such a successful franchsize? I mean this the Kotor series would've probably made bioware ultra rich lol.I cannot understand why they aintmaking it either.I mean handing over star wars to another company is like throwing money in the trash can lol.

Still, we haven't got any solid evidence that KOTOR3 is even being made by anyone yet!!

unless someone can correct me at all....?

Particularly so when the game they actually made became Game of the Year all over the world.

No, you're quite right. Why is Obsidian allowing posts on Kotor 3 on its forums? Perhaps they've been asked to, by a company which is secretly developing Kotor 3 already and wants to keep the 'Kotor' community interested and intact. But that's pure speculation.

I would love to get a reliable source for how many units are sold of any game, and how much money is made, but I'm not aware of one that's publicly available. Nevertheless, it's the received wisdom that action/shooting/killing games sell much more than RPGs. It's possible that a second-rate action game will make more money for a company than a Game-Of-The-Year RPG, particularly if the latter is a sequel. If LucasArts has decided to focus on producing fewer games, then maybe Kotor 3 has been shelved, if not permanently, then for several years.

well I know for a fact that Bioware has made a big mistake in throwing away a cash flow story.now how many companys do you guys know throw away successful stories that make cash??

then your hopes are.......unfounded, remember Obsidian said they were NOT going to be making another kotor. :)

When Obsidian sad that? :luck:

Well, I am not buying KotOR 3 til KotOR 2 is finished.

...

how can a company turn down such a successful franchsize? ...

It would depend on the working arrangements, I would think.

You may offer a person $1 million to take the death penalty for you, for example, but that isn't the same as offering them $1 million no-questions-asked!

Maybe there are reasons why a compnay might not be super-enthusiastic to work with LA ... although I can't think why ... :)"

you have got too be kidding me :) Kotor 3 has to be made.if they don't make Kotor 3 then whats the point of Kotor 2 then?

Why does the game have to be made? KotOR 2, while over all average, the ending SUCKED. Why does it deserve a consideration of a sequel? It just doesn't have the quality and the story was complete in of itself.

Harvey

It deserves a sequal I mean a lot of people are talking about Kotor 3 I mean I have been on other Lucasarts boards and just about on all Lucasarts boards its Kotor 3 that smolder all the Lucasarts boards lol.And I have heard other stuff about Kotor 3 so I know there is a Kotor 3.

I'll keep an eye out for any rumours.

Stand Your Convictions and You Will Walk Alone.

All that means crap, Bastila and you know it.

Take a look at KotOR 2. Look at its quality, its support, and give it a good analytical break down. That game deserves no sequel. Let the series die and be done with it.

No 6 Foot Invisible Rabbit its not crap. Yes Kotor 2 ending was a flaw but I know for a fact that there are at least a few hints for a third Kotor.Kotor does deserve a sequal. As you probably already know Revan is a popular figure and people want to know what happened to Revan.

I personally don't give a rat's ass about Revan...

Anyway I might buy the game if it's developed by a company I trust and it has the Exile or a new character as the PC...

Why does it deserve a sequel? You have yet answered this question to my satisfaction. Story wise, character development, and their interaction with the rules system given gives NO ROOM FOR A SEQUEL. Also I don't care what happened to Revan. Revan's tory and relevance ended with the first KotOR. He was at max level. Exile's relevance ended with KotOR 2. He was beyond what is the max level for Star Wars d20.

A game with a poor story, poor characters, poor support, and poor rules implementation does not deserve a sequel.

Harvey

yeuch! ;) kotor 3 threads spread like a disease, look at obsidian general, its infested.

I think that comment on the bio boards just passed the buck to OE. As they made the most recent instalment it seems they are the custodians of all things related to kotor 2 and beyond - well at least with regards to pontification.

Why would Obsidian not want to develop KOTOR III? Everyone knows it will be a hit. Besides, I bet half of those who bash KOTOR II will still purchase III, if it is made.
