I'm looking to buy Star Wars books, and I want to know which ones would be the best choices to purchase. I'm low on cash, so I can only buy a book or two.

I'm interested in the thing with Luke facing Exar Kun's spirit, I must say.

Thrawn Trilogy

Thrawn Duology

And by the light of the moon

He prays for their beauty not doom

the best Star Wars books

That's an oxymoron.

They're all mediocre at best, some are utterly unreadable. Read only if you're really really really bored or marooned on an island with nothing but star wars books.

P.S.: Thrawn trilogy sucked.

I speak in haiku's.

I've read some SW books and most of them aren't that enthralling. I've read the Thrawn series, Jedi Academy, The Black Fleet Crisis and so on.

I would recommend visiting your local library to borrow the books and not actually purchase them. I mean you are not going to be reading these a lot, if at all after the first time.

Also rather than the books, try the comics published by Darkhorse. I find these more interesting, but its probably because I like looking at the artwork. :sorcerer:

Find your way to the Star Wars Timeline to get some idea of when the comics take place. There are a lot

Interesting Troy Denning is on your recommendation list and on the avoid like the plague list. I guess he's not a very consistent writer I take it. :sorcerer: btw, he sounds like a d&d author. Am I right in that assessment? If that

Life is like a clam. Years of filtering crap then some bastard cracks you open and scrapes you into its damned mouth, end of story.

Troy Denning wrote that first Dark Sun pentalogy, as well as A Breach in the Watershed.

I can't comment on the quality of the star wars books but I did find these books/comics to be enjoyable enough. And that's the important thing.

The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn

Heir to the Empire

Dark Force Rising

The Last Command

Tales of the Jedi by Tom Veitch/Chris Gosset/Kevin J. Anderson

Knights of the Old Republic

Dark Lords of the Sith

The Sith War

Redemption

Dark Empire By Veitch and Cam Kennedy

I would start with these.

"Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin.

"P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle

The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn

Heir to the Empire

Dark Force Rising

The Last Command

Agreed.

Tales of the Jedi by Tom Veitch/Chris Gosset/Kevin J. Anderson

Knights of the Old Republic

Dark Lords of the Sith

The Sith War

Redemption

Agreed again, but dont' forget about The Freedon Nadd Uprsing, The Golden Age of the Sith, and the Fall of the Sith Empire - they belong in the series as well.

And to add one further recomendation, "Shatterpoint" by Matthew Stover.

I'm sorry, the Thrawn Trilogy does didn't do it for me. Timonthy Zahn has a nasty habit of forging potentially interesting characters and killing them off fast. The actual protagonists are trite and to a certain extent, very uninspired.

I see, thanks to those that actually showed me what books are good.

You only know if a book is good after you read it.

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

If 100/1100 people you ask think the book is a fantastic piece of crap, chances are good that it actually is a fantastic piece of crap.

The quality of everything is subjective so you only know if a book is good if you read it, as a book someone else enjoys may seem dull and lacklustre to you so everything said here is merely an opinion and not a stated fact and the fact that the majority of those asked enjoy something means nothing unless you know you have similar tastes to those who said it was enjoyable......on a less philosophical note, in my opinion the dark horse comic route is more enjoyable. :p

Even so, I appreciate the recommendation.

Shatterpoint is a grand book

The best Star Wars book is the one you don't read

got a problem with me do you

If only I'd realized that before I wasted my time and money. :'(

Whether or not SW books meet your standards of high literature is moot. Ostkant only asked for some SW book recommendations. Look, no one is going to compare the literary quality SW EU to Asimov, Heinlein, Ellison, or PK D(sensored)K. Just accept SW for what it is --Pure escapist light reading. Strictly on its own merit as just that, some of the EU stuff is good fun.

...the rest not so much. Actually, most of it is crap.

*edit* I can't believe I actually almost defended the quality of Star Wars novels...
