Ostkant Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I'm looking to buy Star Wars books, and I want to know which ones would be the best choices to purchase. I'm low on cash, so I can only buy a book or two. I'm interested in the thing with Luke facing Exar Kun's spirit, I must say.

Azure79 Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I've read some SW books and most of them aren't that enthralling. I've read the Thrawn series, Jedi Academy, The Black Fleet Crisis and so on. I would recommend visiting your local library to borrow the books and not actually purchase them. I mean you are not going to be reading these a lot, if at all after the first time. Also rather than the books, try the comics published by Darkhorse. The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn Heir to the Empire Dark Force Rising The Last Command Tales of the Jedi by Tom Veitch/Chris Gosset/Kevin J. Anderson Knights of the Old Republic Dark Lords of the Sith The Sith War Redemption Dark Empire By Veitch and Cam Kennedy I would start with these. Timonthy Zahn has a nasty habit of forging potentially interesting characters and killing them off fast. The actual protagonists are trite and to a certain extent, very uninspired. alternative_genius Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 You only know if a book is good after you read it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If 100/1100 people you ask think the book is a fantastic piece of crap, chances are good that it actually is a fantastic piece of crap. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The quality of everything is subjective so you only know if a book is good if you read it, as a book someone else enjoys may seem dull and lacklustre to you so everything said here is merely an opinion and not a stated fact and the fact that the majority of those asked enjoy something means nothing unless you know you have similar tastes to those who said it was enjoyable......on a less philosophical note, in my opinion the dark horse comic route is more enjoyable.

Look, no one is going to compare the literary quality SW EU to Asimov, Heinlein, Ellison, or PK D(sensored)K. Just accept SW for what it is --Pure escapist light reading. Strictly on its own merit as just that, some of the EU stuff is good fun. ...the rest not so much. Actually, most of it is crap. *edit* I can't believe I actually almost defended the quality of Star Wars novels...
