Whats a Fringer?

I'm already hoping for the chance to kill him ;)

Fringers come from outside sociaty, replacing a formal education with skills and knowlegde gained from experience.

Usally,a fringer hails from a world that lies outside the "civilized" regions of space, but fringers can come from the fringe of galactic sociaty-wherever that may be.

They use their dexterity, wisdom and strength to survive whatever the galaxy throws at them.

A fringer isen't necessarily unfamillier with technology, but he certanly dosen't have access to the conveniences available to those of higher status on worlds such as Coruscant or corellia.

The fringer is handy, robust, independant, and a expert at survival due to learning the lessons of "frontier" regions,be they in the Outer Rim or in the darkest levels of Coruscant.

Some fringers might be from primitive, low-tech sociaties, but most have a basic understanding of high-tech equipment-they just come from a world or a part of sociaty where such equipment is in extremely short supply.

Examples of fringers in star wars.: Luke Skywalker(beginning of A New Hope,Anakin Skywalker (in episode I),Biggs Darklighter.

Characteristics.

The fringer is a jack-of-all-trades,learning a little bit of everything to increase his or her chances of suviving.

Often, a fringer can keep even the oldest, most beat-up piece of equipment running.

Where a scout or a soildier has extencive training in repair skills(in D20),a fringer is better at keeping equipment jury-rigged than fixing it completely.

this also meansthe fringer is faster at making slapdash repais, even in extreme situations, but less likely to fully repair an item.

The fringeris at homein the hinterlands of space, able to get by without the conveniences of civilization.

Of all the classes, fringersbest able to deal with whatever troubles the galaxy throws their way.

They have excellent survival instincts and an enthusiasm that gets them through difficult circumstances.

BAB (same as sentinel)

Speciel abillitys: Barter,Jury-rig,survival bonus and bonus feats.

Hope this answers some questions.

I'm guessing for soldier, none of the other characters in your party seems to be one.

Everyone knows Science Fiction is really cool. You know what PoE really needs? Spaceships! There isn't any game that wouldn't be improved by a space combat minigame. Adding one to PoE would send sales skyrocketing, and ensure the game was remembered for all time!!!!!

Bao Dur's class is Tech Specialist. I'm not sure what all that entails, but needless to say, the Skills are strong with that one.

Very cool! I wonder if that means when it comes to breaking down materials to make other things if he will be able to make better items than normal?

Thanks for the Info Akari!

Sounds like Bao-Dur will be very useful when it comes to computers, repairs, and demolitions.

Only if you design him that way. Tech specialists can cover a wide range of disciplines, though obviously more limited in a game such as this than in d20.

And I find it kind of funny

I find it kind of sad

Then what are the disciplines, other than computer, repair, and demolitions, do Tech Specialists have?

Which means T3M4 will be useless once again.

unless bao-dur is only good at breaking down items and repairing items?

Also T3 will be useful if for no other reason that being able to upgrade items on the fly.

True, I doubt BD is a portable workbench like T3 is.

We have workbenches in the game; between Bao-Dur and T3, both of them combine to make a full portable workbench you can access at any time.

As Akari said, Bao-Dur is a Tech Specialist.

T3, as the testers have discovered, kicks incredible amounts of ass. His droid-specific items are pretty good, in addition to his other skills and abilities. He's far from useless.

I'm glad T3 won't suck, I like the idea of a Jedi and his astromech droid

But an astromech is only as good as the midget lives inside of him

What are T3's other skills and abilities that might make him worth putting in the main trio?

And since we got ya here, got any new info that you can tell us about Bao-Dur?

T3 was never useless.. he can open 99% of all the doors and hack almost any computer... if your a soldier/guardian or consular you can easily handle yourself so why not bring T3 along to open the stuff you can't?

Still waiting for more character information : / I wish the site would release a couple more...

While i agree he wasn't useless (he was less usefull compared to...everyone else, almost), flame thrower and the stun were nice, you could chop through almost everything so the doors stuff was useless.

In the D20 the greatest asset of a tech specialist was his ability to construct items at a much lower cost than its market price, provided access to components was available. With a well planified tech specialist a party wouldn't have to worry about credits, and could even obtain items not available through normal means. However I doubt this ability will be included since it would undoubtedly lead to powerlaming...

I just hope Bao-Dur won't turn out to be a 'recruit and forget' type character as it happened with T3.

- When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

Yeah, I never even put any points in security because you could hack almost anything open (places like Uthar's room were the exception). I hope they made some changes this time to make it more useful.

And what was that Avellone said "between Bao-Dur and T3, both of them combine to make a full portable workbench". Between. So one is like a work bench from KOTOR I and the other is able to do all the new things. So I have to fill up my party with them to get the whole workbench.......

I think I will end up just using the workbench on the Hawk.

But whatever, I'm sure it will still be a great game.

He opened Uthar's room for me! :)
