Not the greatest argument when discussing legality of something, that to reverse course if it's illegal would be embarrassing.

As if these mother****ers are capable of shame or embarrassment

Another interesting example of how bad western media has got at regurgitating state propaganda: Ursula von der Leyen's plane hit by GPS incident. Plus dozens of other articles.

Number of articles citing flightradar24's statement that it didn't happen: zero. Number of articles that had been corrected: zero. Fact checkers that had checked the facts: zero.

Note that the plane's transponder includes GPS consistency values, so it indicates there was no spoofing as well as no appreciable interference. While there certainly is GPS interference close to the Russian border central Bulgaria isn't close to it by any stretch. The whole incident appears to have been quite literally made up then published without asking anyone who could refute it about it.

Expectation that the record will ever be corrected: also zero.

Speaking of illegal, a judge has ruled that deployment of the National Guard to LA was a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. They have no shame.

Apparently it's okay for the US to shoot up non-military ships in international waters now. What are we, Somalia? I suppose it's easier to maintain a constant state of emergency that way.

"Here lies beloved Timmy, he died of measles at the age of three. We are proud of his sacrifice to own the libs."

By the way, that is one of the few ways to break the toxic positivity of current LLMs. Copilot called me a cynic for saying something similar when I used it to look up Derek Huffman's name and presented me with news about how he was stationed at the Ukrainian front after joining the army in Russia and potentially killed in action. I replied with "At least he owned the libs." and Copilot was all "That is a very cynical comment on a complex and multi-faceted issue".

Seems appropriate to post this video:

Personal story: Among the reasons my own family is heavily pro-vaccine was the fact that growing up I had a daily reminder of what it was like to live in a world before then. My father walked with a permanent hobbled step as one leg was left shorter than the other as a result of polio. And having got Chicken Pox in 1994 I was probably among the last kids in North America to have gotten the disease since the vaccine only came out a few months later. It put things in perspective when I realised that future generations would be bewildered by this story arc from Calvin and Hobbes:

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

-Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>>
Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

I wish international waters were respected but its often not the case

The Houthis have been targeting ships for 2 years now in international waters and you will find people who justify this criminality and support it
