https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/netanyahu-confirms-arming-gazan-clans-whats-wrong-with-that/

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirms that his government is arming clans in Gaza to oppose Hamas.

In the latest installment in a series of short interviews with advisor Topaz Luk, his office has posted in recent weeks, Netanyahu says that “in consultation with security officials, we made use of clans in Gaza that are opposed to Hamas.”

Can't see much risk in this approach

It's a mystery to the media how all those women and children keep getting killed dying spontaneously (is it because they hate Israel so much they want them to look bad? hmm, worth considering); it'll also be a mystery how ISIS got weapons in an area with the most regulated border in the world. Insert Drake Greta Thunberg no thanks*, ISIS jihadi yes please meme.

Maybe Hamas gave them to them?

(For anyone not paying attention: Israel gave Hamas support including weapons to fight Fatah a few decades ago)

*well, she is a bit old for him now.

All I can say is Riot Comedy's short on this was a banger. Especially this banter:

Elon: "Here's your key back it doesn't even unlock anything

Trump: "Because that was the key to my heart."

I mean it doesn't really matter, unless you are a Tesla shareholder or something. It is, of course, super newsworthy because everybody loves a reality TV spat.

Our lives are not actually going to be affected by a lover's spat between the richest guy in the world and the POTUS. The recent jobs report is more important, of course. It's just not as entertaining.

Meanwhile we are already watching the Trump administration walk back stuff. Sure, they aren't going to admit it. They'll spin it as if they are always winning. But they did finally bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the US. There are a bunch of transgender soldiers opting to fight the ban on them in the military. There seems to be about a million court cases moving forward against all of this. That doesn't actually happen in a real oligarchy. Justice may move slow, and it may suck for a few years as all of this dust settles, but I'm pretty confident in the courts and institutions like Harvard holding their ground. I'll also back career soldiers against a temporary ****stirrer like Hegseth.

I think it's pretty funny that Elon and Trump are fighting like a couple of high school girls from an 2000s teen movie. If their mutual friends Ghislaine was around to mediate they'd probably make up pretty quick.

Politically I guess Elon's influence is going to take a massive hit.....assuming the Democrats aren't dumb enough to try to get him into their tent.

Dunno about that; the potential effects are rather more than for Elon v Zuck posturing and for shareholders in Musk's companies. Elon might well be able to swing a few R votes against Trump's Big Beautiful Bill for example, and it probably only needs a few votes swung against it. It's hard to separate the narcissism from the actualities for things like Musk's effect/ influence on Trump's reelection but he certainly contributed a lot monetarily at least and there will always be those currying favour for reelection funding and influence.

The end of the bromance  between Trump and Musk has real potential  political consequences for the GOP\Trump and this will be realized in the midterms

Musk will echo and elevate  anti-Trump sentiment and criticize the  controversial real  things like the " big, beautiful bill " and then the SM drama conspiracy theories like the Epstein files, its pity the latter  gets more attention

And then you will have less funding for the GOP because Musk was a big donor

Share prices recover and Im sure Musks business entities will be fine because political sentiment has limited influence when investors want to make money

Its not the first time the national guard has  been deployed, there were several examples  during  the worst violence in BLM protests

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/6/1/george-floyd-mapping-us-national-guard-deployments

Sometimes its necessary to restore law and order

" “As of Sunday, National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were activated in 24 states and the District of Columbia in response to civil disturbances, bringing the total number of Guard members on duty in support of their governors to nearly 62,000,” the guard announced in a statement. "

The legal issues raised by Trump sending the National Guard to L.A.

for those interested in the law,

The National Guard in Los Angeles

"We are told that the president has authorized National Guard personnel to “temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property, at locations where protests against these functions are occurring or are likely to occur.” This phrasing of the mission is nearly identical to the text of the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel memo, which stands for the modern executive branch understanding of the protective power."

extreme limited.

however, as local law enforcement is aware that the presence o' troops, as often as not, exacerbates protests rather than quells 'em, which is why state officials is so reluctant to send in troops. many law and order people wonder why local law enforcement tends to stand idly by while "riots" happen, but the prudent response is to do less. sure, the post mortems after a riot-that-got-out-of-hand invariably condemn local law enforcement for not acting sooner to crack skulls and make arrests, but initial cop reluctance in the face o' protests is the reasonable course o' action.

once cops make a show o' force, or troops get involved, there will be an accident which will at least initial inflame the protests. predictable. near inevitable. is why govenors is reluctant to call in troops and am suspecting it is exact why trump and stephen miller is so eager to see boots on the ground.

aside, federal troops only just showed up within the last hour, but to call what has occurred thus far "riots" is a bit hyperbolic... much as happened in the summer o' 2020. the largest concentration o' protesters thus far has been estimated at about 100--1 car burned and another car vandalized. law enforcement officers were attacked receiving minor injuries. compared to a philadelphia sports team winning a national title, this has been kinda tame thus far.

those who attack law enforcement who is lawful executing their duties should be prosecuted. period. however, such has nothing to do with sending in the national guard.

again, the examples o' a President sending in federal troops to quell violence anywhere but fed property when state officials did not request military aid is extreme limited and is so not like a few 2020 examples when governors requested federal support.

“Indeed we can think of no better example of the police power, which the Founders denied the national government and reposed in the states, than the suppression of violent crime and vindication of its victims.”-- J. Rehnquist, us v morrison (2000)

regardless, the authority being granted to fed troops is extreme limited, so for the moment this is mostly a performative action meant to trigger the libs... right up until the federal presence results in an escalation o' violence. maybe such escalation won't happen this time, but if this is the new normal, eventual there will be an accident or event which results in catastrophe. such an eventuality is part o' the plan.

HA! Good Fun!

Yes, was more about his cartel claim. Sort of embarrassing how unprofessional these people write too.

If they do deploy Marines, I bet Hegseth will record himself giving some grand speech before they deploy.

Maybe some might find this funny

I dont buy or believe for a second that using a heavy security presence when you have rampant anarchy or violent protests is '' going exacerbate the situation ", that sounds exactly like what  a human rights lawyer who isnt interested in the violence ending would say

What ends violence and criminality  around this type of protest is when the protestors know there is consequences and law enforcement will do its job

In South Africa in 2021  when we experienced the infamous "Zuma protests " where hundreds of people were killed it was only when the army was deployed to help the police that the violence and looting ended , over 5000 people were arrested but it absolutely required a heavy security presence before the violence ended

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/7/12/south-africa-deploys-army-to-quell-protests-in-two-provinces

No need to overcomplicate something that is easy to understand Gromnir
