Isn't that effectively cluster munition banned by international treaties?
I thought that's the reason it was withdrawn in the US.

@pmp10This warhead is superior not just because it doesn't use cluster munitions but is also superior to a normal high explosive round: "A high explosive round is very impressive because it produces a big bomb and large pieces of shrapnel, but this round is small pellets and covers a much larger area."

As far as I understand it, it is banned only to use it against civilian targets. Someone will probably correct me, if I am wrong.

For signatories their use (or ownership, development etc) is completely illegal but since none of the parties are signatories..

.. it doesn't apply anyway, as they have to be explosive submunitions- and steel/ tungsten are purely kinetic.

Serhii Haidai says, about 5k soldiers are currently surrounded in Lyman. Other sources are talking between 1500-5000 soldiers there.

Anyway, one of the units, inside the city is BARS-16, which were few days ago voiceing serious dissatisfaction with the exchange of Azovstal PoWs, and have released the statement, that they will be taking no PoWs from Azov Batalion. That didn’t age very well, but these peope are definitely brainwashed by propaganda so much, that I would not be surprised to see them fight to the last man. I hope, this will not be the case, and they surrender, so UA can exchange them later, in ideal circustances for the rest of Azovstal guys.

Hmm, it looks like the Lyman situation is pretty much solved. It looks like, that AFU left intentionaly road to Zarichne free yesterday night, to pick on fleeing Russians, to save their own soldiers lives. And later closed it today. There are some videos not suitable for this board, which makes this claim pretty plausible. Now the AFU is cleaning the city from the remaining Russians, which did not run away last night.

This is really good and interesting news for the Ukrainian war effort, its great they dont need any conscripts at the moment,  it tells you something important about the overall success of the Ukrainian military strategy

It also says, that their leaders are using brains. War population needs to be at the balance, to many conscripted people means that the economy will sooner or later end in even deeper ****, than it is due to the war.

By the way, have you good folks read the entirety of the speech that Putin gave on Friday? It's a remarkable document, because it is insane. And I do mean in the psychiatric sense, even though I am not qualified to do so. Putin's claims are so out of touch with any discernible reality that it is quite difficult to believe that he actually said all those things. Anyone interested in the matter should probably try to get a hold of either the Russian original (which I, for one, cannot read) or a good translation.

The speech is replete with stuff like "To them [i.e. the West] our way of thinking and our philosophy is an immediate threat, which is why they attempt to assassinate our philosophers".

I watched parts of it that were highlighted on BBC, it was the  normal rhetoric, lies and grandstanding that has become normal for Putin and his dysfunctional view of the world
