Always remember the golden truth: It doesn't matter who wins as long as Sweden loses.

lmao USA Basketball lost to France because our players insist on bricking 3s over and over and as opposed to driving into the paint and making easy layups :skull:

There was literally a situation at the end of the game where USA was down by 2 and it was 4 vs 5 with a clear lane to drive for an open 2 and instead we shot a 3, missed it and got the rebound, shot another 3 and missed it and got the rebound, and then shot another 3 and missed it. Embarrassing.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

And we (Serbia) snagged a gold medal in Taekwondo.

Indeed, congrats to them and congrats to the UK for their Bronze (first medal in Gymnastics since 1928 if I understood correctly).

Hopefully whatever issue Simone Biles is having isn't too serious; silver isn't something to be sneezed at, even though I know the US team were wanting the gold.

Seems it was mental/emotional issue https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jul/27/simone-biles-withdraws-tokyo-2020-olympics-gymnastics-all-around-final

Which means she's in for some of the routine online abuse.

Since much of the medal hopes kept being pinned on her, I kind of get what she's saying. Its not an easy position to be in.

Looks like Biles has pulled out of the all-around competition.  Hope things get better for her, but it is better to err on the side of caution rather than risk losing focus halfway through flipping in the air and injuring herself.

I wonder who she beat out to make the team. That woman is probably crushed.

As I understand it only the top two at the national trials got an automatic spot on the team.  Had Biles dropped out after the national trials, the top two would be Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles who are both on the team.

The remaining spots on the national team (2 more team, 2 specialists and up to three alternates/replacements, I think) are picked by the athletic selection committee.

I just read an article about Sunisa Lee being the new favorite, so I imagine she is not crushed that she has a shot at gold.

Britain needs more gold medals, they can't even win rowing. When do the cricket and track cycling start?

I like how their rowers almost took out Italy with their incompetence.

Japans judo domination has been a sight to see. I think have had 8 out of 12 golds so far.

Portugal just got a bronze medal in -100kg, which is actually a bit of a disappointment. He is the current world champion having won gold at the last two championships.

Crossing over between Olympics and Politics....

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hongkongers-boo-as-chinese-anthem-plays-at-edgar-cheung-tokyo-olympics-medal-ceremony-fl33mg89b?

Police are investigating the booing of China’s national anthem at a shopping centre during a live broadcast of the medal ceremony as a Hong Kong fencer was awarded the territory’s first gold since 1996 during the Tokyo Olympics.

A large crowd had gathered around a big screen showing the ceremony, but began booing and chanting “We are Hong Kong!” as China’s national anthem, March of the Volunteers, was played while Hong Kong’s district flag was raised for Edgar Cheung, the champion.

Dutch women's football team lost to the US, damn it.  On bright side, US no longer waltzing through tournaments, so that's one good thing for sport.
