Guard Dog
Fifty years ago today: The actual landing took 19 minutes from undock to touchdown. and it was quite dramatic because they overshot their landing target and Armstrong had to take manual control and pick a landing site. So Apollo 11 landed with less descent fuel than any other mission. Apollo 14 was close by Sheppard was hot dogging it. This video is the cliff notes version. Just the important two minutes. Raithe
The perspective of things... The Lincoln Assassination is really just wild if you think about it for a moment. The younger brother of one of the most famous actors in the country- himself a famous actor and heartthrob in his own right- killed the President in a theatre and yelled “Sic semper tyrannis,” a line often associated with Brutus, a character that his brother had famously played. Like, imagine if Liam Hemsworth killed the Prime Minister of Australia at a red carpet movie premiere or something and yelled “I went for the head,” and Chris had to leave the Avengers press tour to tell everyone, “I swear I had nothing to do with this.” Imagine how weird that would be. BruceVC
Guys if you have an interest in animals and conservation here is a heart warming and true story. The man in this story, Laurence Anthony, is a family friend. We grew up with his kids and he had a business with my dad until they had irreconcilable differences and parted ways but most of my family remained friends with his family and him He also was the South African who traveled to Iraq in 2003 to help animals in the Baghdad zoo who had been displaced by the Iraq invasion https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/9131585/Lawrence-Anthony.html I didn't know about the Elephant whisperer story until today when my stepmom sent us the video 1 "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. BruceVC
6 minutes ago, Gfted1 said: Thats a good video, very interesting, The man in that film belongs to a specific ethnic group in Southern Africa called the Khoisan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khoisan The Khoisan are often referred to as the " First people " because they were the original inhabitants of certain parts of Southern Africa before the black\Bantu tribes migrated south from central Africa. They are not technically black, they are there own race with there own culture, language and history .This becomes an interesting historical debate because some Khoisan argue that they should be recognized as the original inhabitants of South Africa and they should have land given to them or rather land reform to include them as its was stolen by both white Colonists and certain black tribes ....things are never boring in SA "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Raithe
For the random quote: "We stumble, and when we stumble a lot, we start to look at our feet. We have to make people lift their eyes back to the horizon, and see the line of ancestors ...behind us, saying, "Make my life have meaning." And to our inheritors before us, saying, "Create the world we will live in." I mean, we're not just holding jobs and having dinner. We are in the process of building the future. Only by making people understand that can we hope to create a better world for ourselves and our posterity." "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum." His daughters don’t really know about the facial-recognition part, he said. But for him and his wife, it’s quickly become a cherished summer pastime, alerting them instantly when the camp uploads its for-parents haul of more than 1,000 photos a day — many of which they end up looking through, just in case.
