Had an odd thought when making a new character.

What if you could multiclass... As the same class? IE, multiclassing as a Fighter, Devoted... And a Fighter, Unbroken.

Now, clearly there are classes this wouldn't work with. Paladins and Priests both wouldn't work right if you tried this... So, lock it out, with an error message that says "You can only devote yourself to one Paladin Order/God at a time." Druids would sort of work, with the exception of the Furies... And since the Furies devote themselves to the storm, the same excuse applies.

As for balancing... The subclasses are already individually balanced, and so is multiclassing. If you multiclass as the same class to get two bonuses, you're getting the downsides of both subclasses... As well as the downside of multiclassing, half as many points to each class... Or in this case, half as many to your ONLY class.

I doubt it would really be the best way to play most classes, but it would certainly be interesting, especially if you're focusing on attacking rather than using abilities. Or if you decide you like one of the other Wizard subclasses, and go Blood Mage/something else, you could get around the issue with multiclassing with your grimoire.

I don't know if Obsidian would consider that, or perhaps some modder will, but it was an odd shower thought that I thought I'd share.

:) Had a somewhat similar thought last week: what if there was some wizard subclass lets say "Apprentice" which among other percs allow you to multiclass with wizard itself.

You get twice the wizard spells compared to wizard/x.

P.S. That would be odd for cipher/cipher though. Two soul whips? Slower progression but double focus generation? And similar thing for chanters and monks.

Yeah, not sure any Wizards would really use this, unless it's Blood Mage/Something. Even then, the other Wizard subclasses are..... Meh. I went Evoker my first playthrough, only to find that a lot of things that seemed 'evoked' were in fact transmutation or conjuration, so it was a massive waste of time... Unless I stuck to the Minoletta spells and spammed Missiles. Since Minoletta's Minor Missiles is basically my favorite thing in POE1 and 2... I kept going anyways.
