Zoraptor Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Or time travel. We can't conclusively prove that the 'aliens' tinkering with our history aren't actually human chrononauts from the future coming back to help us with stuff and every viewer of Ancient Aliens knows what that means: if you cannot conclusively disprove it then it must be true. At least that theory has the advantage of being a Closed Circle argument. 2
ShadySands Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I'm surprised I haven't seen that "Interstellar" theory on the show. Or if they did then I either missed it or tuned it out. Free games updated 3/4/21
InsaneCommander Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Older and more advanced aliens?Well, take that argument all the way back and you have ... God, right? But if God created the Universe, where was He before that? In a larger Universe? Who created that? Sorry, I'm not trying to create a controversy here... ... every viewer of Ancient Aliens knows what that means: if you cannot conclusively disprove it then it must be true. And how can you disprove this? And don't forget that their definition of Specialist is "whoever is on the screen". 1

But if God created the Universe, where was He before that? In a larger Universe? Who created that? Sorry, I'm not trying to create a controversy here... Which oddly enough is the same point that science ends up at when looking at the Big Bang- no ability to tell what came before/ where it came from and what caused it plus special pleading to make it work (inflation theory/ universal constants that aren't actually constant really ain't much different from God Did It if you can't have a proper scientific reason). I far prefer the Big Bounce hypothesis since it doesn't need a before and after or beginning and ending, it just needs for the universe to exist and expand/ contract every 50 billion years or so in an overall homeostatic manner. Indeed, it's a perfect circular argument where existence is its own proof and the answer to why is because it's always been that way; about as neat and tidy and irrefutable on a meta level as you can get. 2
InsaneCommander Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) Well said. The only alternative to who came first/what happened before that I can think of is infinity in time. And the Big Bounce is one way to have it. Another is a (new?) idea that there is an antimatter universe expanding before the Big Bang. If you change matter to antimatter and invert the time arrow, it behaves the same. I'll post it in the Scientific Discoveries thread if I find the news again. And to be back on topic, anyone excited for GoT season 8? Edit: it is not really a discovery, so I'll leave it here. Edited January 15, 2019 by InsaneCommander 1
SonicMage117 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 And to be back on topic, anyone excited for GoT season 8? I've never seen GoT and I plan to start it soon, perhaps tonight! Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother? What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest. Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

SonicMage117 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I watched the first episode and I had no idea there was so much nudity LOL I also didn't know I would know and recognize so many of the actors/actresses. Emilia Clarke - who is so weird looking now days and did terribly in Solo, is so cute and beautiful in GoT. Wow! I was like, I see now why she got famous She looks very elverly. 1 Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? SonicMage117 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Perhaps I'm showing my age or hell, we all know I'm pretty old lmao but I'll take any Kate BaconSalad I can get. Tomb Raider-esque? Definitely. Which fits Katie most well, most certainly well. 1 Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Even Kit Harrington surpassed her at some point. 1 No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.
LadyCrimson Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 A long time ago I tried watching How to Train Your Dragon: Riders of Berk, a TV series. I couldn't get into it at all - to me didn't feel much like the films - altho I probably only watched 3 or 4 episodes so it may have become better later. Apparently after CartoonNetwork gave up broadcasting it (2 seasons/40 total episodes, kids are 15ish), Netflix took it over (6 seasons/13 each/complete, kids are 18ish) and it was renamed Race to the Edge. So I decided to give it a go again, but starting from season 3. It's much better (imo), feeling more like the films except it focuses on the kids and their Dragon Rider organization set against those that would hunt/profit/kill dragons (it's set before the 2nd movie). There's a central baddie, Hiccup's dad and a few other adults show up now and then, etc. Animation is good. Less attention to background details but the chrs. and dragons are animated quite well. Marathoned season 3 and 4. The rather otp comedy sequences (those twins...) goes on a little too long at times perhaps but it's punctuated with moments of more serious themes like the films do. I occasionally ffwd in 10 second increments but not too much. Thumbs up overall. And ... there's plenty of Hiccup/Toothless moments. “Things are as they are. SonicMage117 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Marvel Planning Several X-Men TV Shows For Disney Plus.I suppose this is going to compete against the likes of Titans, Doom Patrol CW's Arrowverse and Young Justice cartoons. I'd love to see a live action New Mutants that compliments The Gifted and initially calls for crossovers! I can't wait to see what Marvel's response is. Just what do you think you're doing?! Hurlshort Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Marvel Planning Several X-Men TV Shows For Disney Plus. I wonder when we reached the point of oversaturation when it comes to super hero content? I mean, I just yawned at that, and I haven't even finished the Punisher season 1, which is my favorite comic from my childhood. I'm going to say it was either the second Ironman or the 3rd Christian Bale Batman.
Tale Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I can only hope they plan a bunch because they expect a bunch to fall through. Leaving them with only 1. But I think I'm just being optimistic. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

So they better make something pretty good. Imho it's getting better. I liked most recent Marvel movies much more than the first ones. As long as they can produce good things, I'll probably keep watching. And I don't think people will get tired of super heroes. There are some genres that have been on tv for decades and they don't lose viewers.
SonicMage117 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Since every hero show for DC is vastly unique, I think that's what Marvel has to work on. I'll never get tired of super-hero shows but that's probably why I have DC Universe Streaming service and prioritize it over Netflix/Prime Video/Hulu, and well, simply because it's better Marvel just has to find that sweet spot to draw in different audiences instead of just one type of audience. DC is doing impressive at making new fans just from marketing, the shows and appearances. Even inclusion of real world topics and lgbtq support go a long way but more importantly - how to transition comics unto the screen. Staying respectful to the context but creating a believable abd trusted identity for characters is a hard thing to do. It's also why I doubt there will be another live action Wonder Woman as good as Linda Carter's. At the time it was everything tv watchers wamted - male or female. Relatability is key so I think Marvel is going to try to deal with improving on this key public factor. Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? I can't wait to see what Marvel's response is. Personally I thought The Gifted squandered it's potential. And hopefully we'll get The New Mutants movie they shot (supposed to come out Aug 2, iirc) 1 I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Tale Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Killing Eve It's so good that Netflix Twitter recommended a Hulu show. And it's actually pretty darn good. 1 "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

There are some genres that have been on tv for decades and they don't lose viewers. Yeah I don't mean to say they are all a snooze, I just remember when it was all must-watch entertainment for me. Some have been great, but they seem to be the ones that break from convention. Just being a comic book movie is no longer enough. I loved Logan, and Deadpool is great because it satirizes all of it. But I can wait on most of this stuff that is showing up. 1
Tale Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 After Doctor Strange I decided I could skip until Netflix for any character centered ones. Ended up skipping Black Panther and Ant Man 2. Saw Black Panther on Netflix and it didn't change my opinion. If I wasn't a Captain Marvel fanboy I'd skip that one. Same for Spiderman 2. Whoever else they have planned won't be so lucky for my viewership. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
injurai Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 I'll probably see Captain Marvel in theaters merely as a form of preparing for Avengers 4. Otherwise I'd certainly skip it. Shame about Disney doing their own streaming service since that makes it harder to just skip theatrical releases, I really don't more than one subscription at a time.
InsaneCommander Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Captain Marvel is more Sci-Fi so I'll definitely watch it in theaters. Avengers 4 is a must watch too. But I don't know about the others. Maybe Shazam because my nephew wants to see it and his parents don't like super hero movies. The rest I can wait. Although I'm curious about Glass.
