Does it seem to anyone else that most of the best ways to build your characters, including your companions, are to put them in melee? Or does that just show that I have some kind of melee bias when thinking up builds?

I'd really like suggestions for powerful ranged builds, especially for companions. For example, can you make Xoti a monk or monk/priest that is good from range?

Anything/monk swift strikes just works. However.

I speced Maia as Wizard/Ranger and it is a lot of fun. She can self-buff accuracy and decrease enemies' resistances to deliver some serious one-shot punishment. Not cheesy and very satisfying.

Maia Ranger/Rogue works just fine. Sneak Attacks for you and pet. Using devastating Blows for kill steals.

Ydwin with dual pistols/blunderburst rogue/cipher could be effective. But she is not full companion so less interesting to put in party.

You can play Xoti ranged with Swift Strikes, but she has named weapons, so that is argument to use her that way.

But i used her with Abalaster as off weapon. It is hardly the build.

Pallaegina/Eder has some defensive traits so are good for frontline.

Aloth is wizard, and casting high level spells is generally good.

Serafen is Barbarian, so at range you loose carnage, but other than that alot of his abillities work with range, so it is an option.

Maia scout using Arquebus is amazing.  With her starting gear, plus an easy to obtain hat and the gunner passive, she gets -60% reload time, has amazing range, and can use rogue attacks to interrupt spellcasters.

Once she gets driving flight + the 45k gun she does a ton of damage.

You can stack crazy accuracy with a fighter/ranger or wizard/ranger. I'm able to reach 195 accuracy with spearcaster :p But I guess there isn't any enemy to match with enough deflection in the game :/

My main ran the first two PotD runs as a ranger/monk and the Swift Flurry procs are not to be taken lightly. I was able to clear 75% of the screen, with the Frostseeker, in a matter of seconds. Almost wish I had screenshot it, but I was in shock, haha.

I'm now running Sharpshooter/Devoted to see how that compares. It's a bit slower on the draw but hits like a truck with all the crit and accuracy you can stack.

I've also tried Devoted/Darcozzi pistol specialist that was pretty awesome, decent defense and some nice damage to boot. I was channeling my inner Percy.

My current run includes 4 ranged and 1 melee + pet (Vox Machina-lite) and it's working wonderfully. Just threw a bunch of firearms in the team's hands and let them go!

Which hat is that, and where do you find it?

I have so far only tried one ranged character. It's a Wael/Monk. Wael summons a Rod with 50% shock lash and lightning strikes adds another 25% shock lash. Hits like a truck in AoE.

She is low lvl still, going to try if stunning blows work in the blast AoE.

A bleak walker/assassin with an arquebus works well. You basically 1-hit kill everything with a FoD crit from stealth, except for pierce and fire immune enemies. And you can clear a room of enemies pretty quickly, if you pause and reenter stealth after each kill.
