  1. I'm glad to hear Deadfire helped you through a rough patch. I've found games a very useful tool for helping me through rough patches in the past: sometimes you just need something to distract you from the here and now for a bit and they do that well. As others have said you should definitely seek help from others (ideally a professional who is emotionally detached from your life, but do reach out to friends and family too if you think it'll help) but I suspect you already know that
  2. That presupposes I consider the mess that is The Elder Scrolls character system to be a good example of a classless system. Obviously I don't, I consider it to be pile of garbage
  3. As someone who used to be a pretty decent painter of miniatures (collected and played Warhammer for years) I've long ago learnt that "hand painted miniature" doesn't mean much, but yeah, this is particularly bad. It almost looks like the painter was actively trying to do a bad job.
  4. I would very much like to see some form of blood based plate added to Deadfire. I've been watching Raven Darkholme's Twitch play through of BG2 as a solo Sorcerer. Once he reached a high enough level to learn the spell "Finger of Death" there were a surprising number of such wrong sounding phrases :D
  5. Good point regarding THQ Nordic. I had assumed disc versions would simply be Steam versions that complete the original installation from the disc rather than downloading from Steam. After that, patching would still be handled by Steam. Of course if they aren't tied to Steam that would indeed be a headache for Obsidian to manage.
  6. I'm not saying VE were behind the decision not to give physical tier backers actual DVDs (like you say, that precedes their involvement) but that they might have been behind the decision to have a physical edition for sale at release. At least some of the disappointment seems to stem from this fact.
  7. Pure speculation on my part, but one possibility is the decision came from Versus Evil's. Perhaps VE decided they wanted to have a physical copy available but, having agreed a deal with Obsidian based on the costings from the original Fig campaign, didn't want to extend that physical version to those who backed at a "physical tier".
  8. This. I long ago stopped wanting physical discs but I can still understand why people who do want them are annoyed by this, particularly given there are physical discs available for sale on Amazon, PoE1's physical tier came with discs, and the art work for Deadfire's tier showed a box with discs in it. Given there's an actual DVD copy of Deadfire for sale on Amazon I'm not sure it is a stretch.
  9. I tend to agree. The relationship system doesn't add much (for me at least) and the introduction of the companion/sidekick divide has just made some players disgruntled. They should have simply called all non-mercenary joinable NPCs "companions" and simply varied the amount of content each one had behind the scenes (as was done in BG2 and PoE).
  10. Don't you remember that time when Josh said, officially, that Obsidian were going to put all of their resources into upgrading Ydwin to a full companion with more content than any other companion and with a romance mini-game rivalling most dating simulators?
  11. Could you point out where I claimed there weren't open world games in the past? If not, could you explain how the existence of open world games in the past is relevant?
  12. I really hope it won't be since (i) open world games are boring (to me) and (ii) most CRPGs these days seem to be at least semi open world.
  13. I broadly agree, but ideally if I hit the cap with a decent chunk of content remaining I want most of that content to be challenging for a max level character. I like there to be some under levelled content remaining as it's nice to have the game emphasise the fact my character has grown powerful by having them fight enemies that were previously challenging and easily defeat them, but I want most of the content I do at max level to be challenging still. I think this is where both Deadfire and Pillars fall down a bit: if you're completionist you'll hit max level long before you exhaust all the sub max level content the game has to offer, and you'll find yourself fighting a lot of enemies that pose no challenge whatsoever. But yeah, I also prefer it if I spend a significant amount of time at max level so that I get to enjoy my completed character. This man is a wise individual :D
  14. No names were named. If you choose to project your own silly billiness onto my post that's on you
  15. Yup, and even when other games in the same genre do well it doesn't necessarily hurt Deadfire. It might come as a surprise to some people, but I know at least two distinct individuals who own both Deadfire and DOS2 (one of them even likes Bethesda games but he's a silly billy).
  16. I'd even go so far as to say 26th is pretty good given that the list includes games that aren't really RPGs (at least of the same type as Deadfire) and that the list includes games like the Witcher 3 (and 2 and 1) and Divinity Original Sin 2. And bear in mind Deadfire was (admittedly briefly) the overall top seller on Steam near its release (a bit like Two Point Hospital is right now*). *Or was when I checked, it might already have been replaced for all I know.
  17. Yeah, that's the same way I checked just now. To elaborate, when you remove multiples of the same game from the chart, at this moment Deadfire is the 26th best seller on Steam. I don't know over what window that is calculated (I'd guess it's a continuously rolling week long window). As for whether it's selling well on Steam, it's really hard to say. What did PoE's position look like day-by-day four months after its release and how does Deadfire compare to it? I don't know and I doubt anyone other than Steam and Obsidian do. Hopefully eventually we'll get some news out of Obsidian, both about how well Deadfire has sold and about whether or not they're going to do a PoE3.
  18. Indeed. Teasing is supposed to keep a person excited but there was so little in that teaser to actually be excited by. It revealed that SSS will contain at least one new map (which we could probably guess) and a new enemy that looks like an Engwithan Titan that's been set of fire.
  19. Where are you getting that from? I've done a search on Steam for games with the tag RPG and ordered by top seller (here's a link, although I don't know whether it'll work properly: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?tags=122&filter=topsellers&page=2) and Deadfire appears in the 37th place. However there are two things to consider with this: This method of determining top sellers only represents sales within a window, not all time sales, and that window isn't stated (I know this because the overall top seller at the moment is Two Point Hospital and I can guarantee to you that that hasn't outsold PUBG in absolute terms). If we look at the other entries in the top selling Steam RPGs we see some weird things. For example, not surprisingly there are three entries in the top 25 for The Witcher 3 (the GOTY edition, the base game and the expansion pass), four entries for Black Desert Online and two entries for Divinity Original Sin 2. That's a total of nine entries in the top 25 for just three games. Moreover there are some games in the list whose status as RPGs is questionable e.g. Crusader Kings 2, Payday 2 and Stardew Valley. Given these two factors I don't see Deadfire's position in this ranking as being representative of very much. It clearly doesn't represent overall sales (overwise PUBG or CSGO would definitely be at the top of the overall top sellers), the rankings are bloated by multiple entries for the same game and they include games that Deadfire shouldn't even be being compared to. EDIT: of course if I am being naive in my method for checking top sellers and there's a better method please do correct me.
  20. Who's talking about how to pirate games? I see people talking about pirating and how it does or doesn't affect sales, but no one has actually explained how to do it.
