  1. Its weird seeing Fenway Park...I mean Diamond City. I saw some Baseball games here back in the day. Look at it! Note to Self: Need to find cane to yell at people to get off my lawn. Its official, I'm an old person now. I was asked to find green paint at a local warehouse. A woman claimed to need "help". Could the trap have been anymore obvious? Note to Self: Remember to yell "Take that Raider Scum" next time. Ah, the Green Monster. Note to Self: Don't be around when they run out of yellow and blue paint to scavenge... Picked up a casual outfit for wandering around town in. Note to Self: Wish I could have found a better hat. Are there no bonnets in this godforsaken wasteland?
  2. I think it comes down to soundbite-ism. There's no way you can actually deal with the complexities regarding Islamic groups, sub-groups and which sides believe what in 60 seconds. And 60 seconds or less is what the nightly news wants to give you (or conversely its what most people want from the nightly news so it is what we all get). mmmm......I dont think I agree with that, I guess I expect you guys to be a lot more cleverer than that...I hold you guys in high regard How hard is it to not assume that the actions of 20,000 extrmists don't represent 2 Billion muslims globally....did you guys honestlly not realize this? It seems like we need to state the obvious ? I think a lot of people do realize this. I think there's also a lot of people who've never really given it much thought at all, and so can only react when presented with terrorist acts, for example.
  3. US Media will never use the term Heretic/Heretical simply because - even as biased as our media is - being able to make a declaration like that implies the kind of position the media will never take because it requires them to declare that one side in non-Heretical. Even with the steping in Christian culture, groups like the Koreshian Branch-Davidians are the Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ are going to be referred to as "sect" or "cult" and not "Heretical Christian movement" or similar.
  4. While creep-crawling through the wasteland, thought I'd come across some monster, drew my gun and turned to face it. Was mushrooms on a rock. Note to Self: Maybe that's just what the mushrooms wanted me to think... Decided to take a break and walk rather than creep-crawl. Found some train tracks. Don't think the trains are running on-time anymore, boys. Note to Self: I can't help but figure there's some sort of crazy mutated critter living up in that junk. There were crazy mutated critters living in that junk. It irradiated me with its bite, so I shot its head off. Seemed fair. Note to Self: Glad we were so riotously irresponsible with radiation as to make RadAway still plentiful 200 years later. Headed back to Sanctuary because a storm that lightninged radiation was brewing. Note to Self: Is "lightninged" a word?. Gave a pep-talk to Preston as he was feeling a bit down. Note to Self: People didn't become any less needy after 200 years of the wasteland, did they? Having set up Sanctuary to be self-sufficient by doing all the crafting lazy-ass Sturges wouldn't do, I decided to skip out of town, free of immediate responsibility. Note to Self: Probably looked goofy doing that. Should avoid coming back to town for a few days.
  5. Arguably you could make a retro-continuity case that Fallout 4 (and 3 by extension) is right; that Myron was lying when he said he created Jet in Fallout 2 (which wouldn't be that hard to explain since making that claim put him in good with the Mordino family and he got prostitutes due to his creation) To explain it, all you'd need to do is argue that Myron had basically "rediscovered" the drug from Pre-War days since ultimately the drug, IIRC, comes from Brahmin dung where the Brahmin were decedents of pre-war cattle who'd eaten food grown with an experimental cheap protean to speed up growth. With that background, it'd be relatively easy to argue pre-war science would have spotted the change in cattle biochemestry, studied it and extracted Jet which is the pre-War Jet. Myron was a genius and could have recognized pre-war information on Jet that led to the rediscovery in modern Brahmin strains. Not that anyone will care because of the whole "Bethesda Fallout bad, Interplay Fallout good" thing going on!
  6. So it's Chinese who change, not you... You assume Chinese restaurants still have Chinese staff. They don't. In fact, the Dutch-Chinese community laments the loss of real Chinese restaurants because most of their children moved on to the better paying hotel industry. I could drive to about 6 chinese restaurants in 10 minutes from my house and only one of them is actually staffed by Chinese cooks. (Unsurprisingly, it's the one with the tastiest food because the westernized variants are ****). EDIT: In fact, a lot of the westernized variants also serve non-Chinese food despite labeling themselves Chinese restaurants. You can get Chop Suey along with Nasi Goreng and Babi Pangang. But if you look at the reverse, even the big US chains (think McDonalds) will tailor their menu to the tastes of the country they're in. For example McDonald's Shrimp Burger in China, or the lack of beef products in India. Cultural dishes and tradition are great, but if you want to sell food, you are sometimes going to have to appeal to the local taste rather than sticking with cultural traditions regarding preparation of a dish.
  7. I've always thought that Pursuit Predation made humans the Jason Voorhees of the animal world.
  8. Eh...I let the deathclaw kill the raiders then used the minigun to explode cars while the deathclaw passed them, using the least amount of minigun ammo...
  9. They delayed filming a few times and those delays and problems resulted in it - Del Toro talks about it here - http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_threaded;post=261703;sb=post_time;so=DESC;
  10. Well technically U-571 was sunk and not captured so there's all sorts of errors in that picture. Poland had captured (1928) and cracked (1932) the Enigma code and gave that information to the UK before the war. The British captured an updated Enigma machine/codebook when they captured U-110 in 1942 (amid 13 other captures during the war). The US captured U-505 and Canada the U-774 in 1944 the only non-British captures .
  11. We replaced the British in U-571 about the capture of the Enigma machine in WWII, I don't think fidelity in film to history has ever been our strong point...
  12. Aye. It just makes our world conquest so much harder when we cant just reduce the cities to rubble, WWII style. I mean, how will we ever overcome the Malaysian military otherwise? if you strike us down, Malaysians military will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... "The Force is strong with this one." We become spectral ghost who walk around and do nothing other than talk... Which is kinda scary, really, because you can't just walk away from a conversation with a Force Ghost - they can follow you anywhere!

  14. Aye. It just makes our world conquest so much harder when we cant just reduce the cities to rubble, WWII style. I mean, how will we ever overcome the Malaysian military otherwise? It is very interesting to see how the style of engagement has changed over the years..
  15. From the news stories I've read the Japanese work ethic/work schedule is such that many employees don't have time to do anything other than work, eat and sleep. Not having time for relationships, the birth-rate dipped drastically. So I think over the last few years there's been a lot of attempts to "shore up" certain aspects that are lost in relationships. IE need to go to the office party but don't have a wife? Rent a date. Want some snuggling but no time for a relationship, pay for it.
  16. I bet, this would be more successful strategy at destabilizing the ISIS, than what the west have shown so far... Sadly, were not allowed to carpet bomb anymore or everyone will whine that's its inhumane. Someone has to think of the carpets.
  17. So far I've only been traveling with Dogmeat & Cogsworth, so dunno.
  18. You guys are trying to ruin Fallout for me.
  19. Get out of bed cast frotz on grue laugh die repeat
  20. With Sanctuary up and running, I've decided to branch out and see what else there was in the Wasteland besides Sanctuary, a Ranger Station, Vault 111, Kill-Crazy Raiders and an ass load of mutated animals out for blood. This soon led me to an old soda shop. Hubby and I ate here a few times when returning from visiting his parents; place has really let itself go in the past 200 years. Note to Self: Probably don't want to drink the 200 year-old sodas. Not that I doubt Nuka Cola is still the same as it was back in my day, but that's kind of the problem, isn't it? Thankfully, the proprietor trades in more than foodstuff. Time to unload crap! offer great deals to the proprietor. To misquote Ben Grimm, "It's Bartering Time!" Note to Self: Might get more caps for Raider outfits if I'd washed bloodstains out. I checked out their selection of fine pre-war hats: Note to Self: Would have been less expensive if I'd not bought all the hats. And the winner is: Note to Self: The law profession's gain was definitely the Coast Guard's loss. And now it is time to resume creep-crawling through the wasteland. Note to Self: Might want to see if I can salvage some knee-pads. Haven't seen any football uniforms having survived the war yet though...
  21. My understanding is that the Stiller Mitty had more to do with being a love letter to LIFE Magazine than it did Thurber's short story (which was the basis of the Kaye film). Not saying its a bad film, just that it seems not to be a very good adaption of a story.
  22. Yeah I didn't realize dogmeat could be used as a packmule so spent a lot of the early game stuffing stuff in the workshop and coming back to it if I absolutely had to have (I'm looking at you, duct tape).
  23. So apparently you can cook radroaches now. Cogsworth indicated I'd been gone for a little over 200 years...guess I am ready to eat anything. Note to Self: Scavange wasteland for a spice rack Cogsworth thought it might be worth heading to town to see what I could find. I found a dorkus who wouldn't help me build anything. Oh and some other people. Note to Self: Sturges is a tool. I've built some furniture in the ruins of my old home. Here are my cabinets (bottom is clothes, top is guns ("Top Gun, get it Goose?)). Also I found a hat. Might have been Old Man McKeever's. Hopefully the dust I brushed off of it wasn't Old Man McKeever. Note to Self: Why did I collect all those hairbrushes?
  24. Yeah it is endearingly strange. Just some bizarre ideas and inexplicable translations of some of the Super Mario Bros world. I liked Hook when it came out, but there's a couple of sections that are maudlin and hard to watch on repeated viewings. That said the lost boys are a bit embarrassing. BANGARANG!
  25. My knowledge of the Philippines history is limited, and I understand that there were at one point a number of different areas that had been influenced by diffierent groups (sometimes being different ethnic groups). Like I said, not trying to excuse the Spanish, who really did run roughshod over it (or even the USA who did some dodgy stuff in the Phillippenes as well, as I recall). As Hurlshot says, Islam right now accounts for 1% of the religious population of the US. The vast majority identify as Christian (around 70% IIRC). I think Judaism is the only other religion to get 1% or more of the poplation. That said the two member of the House (Ellis and Andre Carson of Indiana) who are Muslim is about half you'd expect with a population distribution in an abstract sense, its kind of hard to apply that numerical approach to voting patterns that don't always follow identity demographics, though.
