  1. Teaser for Star Trek Beyond?
  2. In the "A Man with Fleas is Never Truly Alone" category, as long as the internet is available and one person is reading what you post, you're never truly alone.
  3. Never been over-fond of Wilde's poetry (although I suppose I should give it another chance, I think I have a collection somewhere - it and a thesaurus should see me through), but by Jove was the man quotable. "Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go."
  4. The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe. I won't dispute that Poe had many an issue, but I've always thought his use of words - repetition, alliteration, etc - in the Raven was superb. .
  5. I just LOVE that quote Alum. I am so stealing this one. Hanlon's Razor, IIRC. J. Porter Clark has a corollary "any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice". Goethe had a similar statement back in the 1700s "...misunderstandings and neglect create more confusion in this world than trickery and malice. At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent." Bernard Ingram may have said it best though: "Many journalists have fallen for the conspiracy theory of government. I do assure you that they would produce more accurate work if they adhered to the ****-up theory." And finally a last thought from Alexander Dumas (fils): "I prefer rogues to imbeciles, because rogues sometimes rest."
  6. Having found the Silver Shroud costume, Kent has somehow persuaded me to don the costume and fight crime. Note to Self: No really, how the hell did I get talked into this? Putting an end to perfidious poison peddling punks Note to Self: Aliteration: A OK; glasses: Not so much. Posion Peddler Put Down, courtesy of...THE SILVER SHROUD! Note to Self: I think I'm getting a bit too into character. I AM THE LAW! Note to Self: ... MUA-HA-HA! Note to Self: I need therapy. Out in the boondocks, at rehab for "Overactors Annoynmous" Note to Self: I should be able to return to the Boston Ruins without dressing up and defending the night soon.
  7. X-Men Apocalypse Trailer:
  8. Because it's Xtreme! XTREME Holidays This is that magical time of the year where Santa rides on down your chimney on a stunt motorcycle before chokeslamming the Grinch and blowing up any overly greedy corporations while taking care to walk away from said explosions slowly while wearing sunglasses.
  9. Okay...this could be fun. Sadako (The Ring) vs Kayako (The Grudge). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlZ9OdvoxO8
  10. It occurs to me as a non-American that the setting of Fallout 4 isn't exactly familiar, and that may contribute to the difficulty of getting into the game. Things I know about Boston: It's somewhere in the top right corner of the US, and has a harbour that may or may not taste somewhat tea-like. I couldn't name a single landmark, be able to recognise the general architecture, or know anything about the weather (though I'd guess it gets pretty snowy). This is in sharp contrast to Vegas and DC (sort of, I know it has, uh, the White House, and that obelisk) in the immediately preceding Fallout games, and would be the case with cities like New York, Miami, New Orleans and San Francisco for example. If I wanted to see what Boston was like from a movie portrayal, I wouldn't even know what to watch, whereas say Philadelphia, a city I'd consider equally unremarkable, I can at least get a feel for by watching Rocky. I've not seen a sandstorm in Boston. Radiation storm and rain storm, but I haven't seen a sandstorm. IIRC old time poster Slowtrain was from Boston - would have loved to see his thoughts on FO4's portrayal. Movies set in Boston: The Departed, Black Mass, Good Will Hunting (MIT), Ted, The Town, The Boondock Saints. I think most of them had at least some filming of exteriors in Boston at least.
  11. The guy behind me looks like he tried to sit through the 'pre-show entertainment'. Note to Self: Looks like nothing good is playing in this theater anyhow... I've decided to ditch the ice cream hair - seemed daft since I always wear helmets and hats. Also have a new casual wear suit for when bartering around town. Note to Self: I won't even mention how hard it is to get that much hair product post-apocalypse. Don't really want to speak of some people's "suggestions" either. Why yes, yes I do want to make mole rat chunks. They're good for you. Note to self: Unfortunately, they still taste like Mole Rats. One small leap for Turret technology, one giant leap for town security Note to Self: Why does it seem like me, raiders and Supermutants are the only ones who can actually build these things? BUILD A TURRET PRESTON, IT WON'T KILL YOU!!!! And yet another crafting masterpiece from moi! Note to Self: I'm going to run out of names at this rate...and room in my inventory. Its quiet...too quiet. Note to Self: How many Red Rocket stations were there in Boston? I really thought that it just seemed like they were on every street corner Wait...why do I have a screenshot of this? Note to Self: Apparently Curie thought the monitor looked "cute" and took a picture and sent it to my Pip-Boy...?
  12. I wonder if they thought most people would run the critical quest (muh baby!) and that defending the settlements and such would be ways to keep the game "alive" in post game (note this is a theory - I'm assuming Bethesda won't have you don't die of radiation (or similar) again).
  13. Yeah I realized in retrospect after I posted that I was confusing hijab with niqab (which I couldn't recall the name of). Most of the issues I've heard, though, relate to niqabs more than hijabs, but that's anecdotal...
  14. More like "goes out of the way to be silly".
  15. Gratz Boys Ten years is a long time and shows commitment You should both think back to events and discussions that have been the most memorable over the last 10 years I would be keen to read them Not sure if it was the most memorable, but excepting topics on current events, this probably sums up the last 10-12 years: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/45546-do-you-have-a-zombie-plan/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/38487-ive-learned-a-terrible-truth/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/17236-contamination-of-modern-science-by-politics/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/35872-what-are-your-favourite-shoes/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/46083-hi-im-fish/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/51039-has-anyone-ever-seen-a-ufo/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/51150-ghosts/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/44303-mr-sawyer-owns-us-all-with-nwn2/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/44407-retiring-the-hades-and-harvey-personas/ https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/91-origin-of-your-name-and-avatar/ I am going to read these later but thanks for putting the effort in...I know you have a very good memory so you are one of the best people to link the most memorable events to real old forum discussions..so nice one Your diligence is always appreciated Not really a good memory, the threads were randomly chosen after a brief perusing by the following criteria: 6 threads that came up in WOT that had "Greatest" "Thread" and "ever" in a single post in the thread. A thread about Ghosts and one about UFOs I recalled fondly. A thread from the late Judge Hades (aka Hades aka Vicseris aka...) talking about killing another persona. An early thread about usernames and avatars that's hilarious to read as everyone has changed their avatars so the descriptions make no sense.
  16. So many old timers that aren't around any more. Yeah a lot of great posters no longer post - but then again considering that many of us have been posting in the same forum since 1999-2000 or so, its also amazing how many of us have stuck with it! EDIT: And it should be noted that a few posters are no longer with us, having passed on.

  18. Not all of the rain storms are radioactive, so they have to have some way to distinguish in game from normal rain and radioactive storm already in the game, I'd think. You'd just need to trigger the behavior to the storm - again I'd think. Could be terribly, terribly wrong, though.
  19. Agents of SHIELD
  20. Saw the Naked Gun films; all three over the last few weekends. Really had forgotten most of them in large swatches (I've rewatched the TV series more than the movies). They still hold up pretty well although OJ - who wasn't really a great replacement for the TV show's Peter Lupus - stands out even more now than he did then.
  21. I have decided to embrace my inner ice cream cone. I look lickably good with the new 'do and the shades. Note to Self: That sounded less dirty when I thought of that in my head before saying it out loud. Ice-cream hair doesn't work well with hats. Also, I think these shades really work for me. Note to Self: I'm in such an agreeable mood. Yes, I will do it - and look awesome in my shades and (unfortunately hidden) Ice-Cream Hair. Is the Supermutant asleep, or did someone kill him before I got here? Note to Self: Will loot the body regardless. Hmm, have I stumbled across some sort of weird Supermutant religious ceremony? Note to Self: Perhaps I shouldn't intrude on what is clearly a private moment between these two fellows? Pew-Pew! Note to Self: Pew! And then for good measure, I exploded everything. Note to Self: And yes I *did* walk away in slow motion as the explosion burned behind me.
  22. I actually like it as a concept. And it looks nice; reminds me a bit of ashstorms in Morrowind. Although I'd like there to be more consequences to it, like having to build a radiation shelter in towns to escape its effect and such. Right now you can get radiation while standing in a house, but if you sleep at that same house the storm will pass and you won't get any more radiation which was...weird.
  23. Constantine was born in what is now Serbia, from a dad who was from somewhere in modern day Macedonia/Romania/Bulgaria and a mom who was from modern day Turkey. At best most people with "Euro-centric" thinking would see him - in a modern context - as Eastern European. Not sure there is a fear of the hijab - per se. There are people who believe the hijab represents oppression of women in Islamic societies because it "hides" women in a way that is not required of the men therefore creating a disparity between the genders. And in the USA there is a natural distrust against people who hide their faces based on a history that included masked robbers and masked or hooded "vigilante" groups enacting whatever "justice" they saw fit to administer (see the Vigilante's in Barbary Coast/San Fransisco or the Ku Klux Klan in the south for examples). In fact there are a lot of long standing laws against hiding ones face in public in the US that were enacted to fight said groups and their ability to act with impunity (because of the lack of being able to identify perpetrators) that have to be suspended to honor the religious freedoms of those who choose to wear a hijab for religious reasons here (which probably causes its own problems with people who think this is a "privilege" they don't get). Add in the "America for people who act like Americans!" brigade and the mistrust and fear people have when encountering the unknown (and the US is huge so there are large segments of the population who've never met a Muslim, much less someone wearing a Hijab) and you probably have a basis - in the US at least - for why we are culturally struggling with the hijab and those who choose to wear it.
