Fallout Online
True, but that wasn't really my point, my point is that Fallout is tied to the United States. Keep it out from the USA and it's not the same game, like it or not. It's not as if it will ever be "the same game" anymore anyways.

There was red scare in Europe as well. As well as retro looking visions of the future.

Fallout Online
It continues the Enclave part of the Fallout 2 story.

Fallout Online
Actually, it takes place only 38 years after Fallout 2, which is half of the gap between Fallout 1 and 2.

I doubt we'll see a Dragon Age style one, not with Bethesda owning the license.

Bethesda's Fallout 3 is also buggy as hell. And I'd definitely take a buggy Troika game over a hypothetical 100% bug-free Bethesda game anytime as well. What else did you expect in this forum, given that some of the devs at Obsidian were involved in the creation of Fallout and 2 and that they're making FNV now? I didn't say I'd like Fallout 3 to be a jPRG. You just asked for examples of modern non-strategy AAA turn-based games.

Final Fantasy and other jRPGs?

I'd take "somthing akin to Bloodlines" by Troika over Fallout 3 or even New Vegas any day. Although I doubt it would have been made this way (unless the publisher insisted). Anyway, even if Troika had died anyway after releasing their own Fallout, it wouldn't rule out any future sequels by e.g. Obsidian either, since the rights to the franchise would be owned by Activision. I'd also take a BioWare-style Fallout over a Bethesda-style one.

Not necessarily, a fairly successful Fallout game could have saved them. Of course it wouldn't be as popular as Bethesda's, but I don't really care about it having mainstream appeal at the cost of appeal to my own tastes. And even if Troika had died afterwards, even one more Troika game would be awesome. And it's not as if Bethesda's FO3 isn't extra buggy too. As for the second part, it simply isn't true.

Troika was pretty close to getting Activision to get the Fallout license for them before Bethesda outbid them. And the failure to do so was one of the reasons Troika died.

A widely successful "sequel" that has little in common with the original makes an eventual faithful sequel even less likely than there being no sequel at all for a while. Anyway, here's some new FOOL bits: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Au...letter_contents http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Au..._secret_bonuses

Not really. Bethesda was the highest bidder, but not the only one.

Matt MacLean: This Means Beard War (Kotaku)
Hah, "****" is censored? So one can't say "Moby ****" or "**** Cheney" here? Pretty silly if you ask me.

Chris Avellone E3 2010 Interview at GameBanshee
Interesting that he actually talks about Fallout Online, given that the interview had to be Bethesda-approved.

A sad announcement
I didn't really keep up with his name changes so I didn't know this was Visceris. I remember arguing with him a lot back then (those were the times). Reading this thread just made me sad.

Alpha Protocol sales and sequel
Is that US sales or international sales? I'm guessing the former.

Most likely with Feargus, since he didn't seem to have a beef with other Interplay higher-ups, considering he just moved to a different division of IPLY (14 Degrees East).

I think he might have some grudges with Feargus back from Black Isle days (he was actually kicked out of BIS during FO2 development), so him joining Obsidian is unlikely. Maybe inXile?

Fallout Online
Seemed likely to me at first, but then I was not sure because it took Beth so long to close the forum thread, they usually take action quickly on this kind of stuff. Plus they did not have the FOOL news at Planet Fallout, which is sponsored by Bethesda, taken down.

Fallout Online
FOOL thread in Beth forum was closed by Gstaff. Looks like there's no settlement after all.
-
Fallout Online
We'll see. Perhaps they came to some settlement with Bethesda.

Yeah, style, tone, consistency with canon and mission design weren't great, but the actual game mechanics were pretty good. It's a great shame that it did not allow to create dialogue trees, as then it would be perfect for all Fallout mods. In all aspects other than this it was superior to the Fallout 1 and 2 in terms of engine and gameplay mechanics.

Fallout Online
I mean expansion of the system to include creation of super mutant, ghoul and robot characters, new perks and traits including racial ones, etc. Heavier armors having skill penalties to Sneak and manual skills.
