  1. I've been jonesin' for a game like this for a long time! ...And the way your learn to use your weapon and become more skilled relative to your starting point would make a hell of a lot more sense in a game like this than starting as a farmer and ending up saving humanity and defeating all demons or some such. Don't get me wrong, I like saving the world every now and then, but maybe not *every time* between now and then.
  2. I've seen that root beer somewhere around here, Manifested. I just tend not to like sweet drinks very much. Not in some sort of misguided 'manly' sort of way, just preference. I'm laying off the booze for today having had a six pack of local Hanger 24 wheat, a cheap (talkin' $6.50) bottle of port, and a half of bottle of some truly horrible Chardonnay called... Goliath? All that during the recent twitchtv thing on Saturday. Tomorrow, I plan on indulging in Drambuie over ice to prepare myself for our annual veteran's day lunch with the inlaws. lol
  3. I have to admit that I don't see the upside. The gear you get is sufficient for the task. I mean, I guess if you're playing on the hardest difficulty and on iron man mode you might want to pick off the NPCs, but I would still have to have a legitimate RP reason to murder someone for gear. Now, if I ever played a cold blooded killer I might be willing to murder one of the NPCs, but I never do. Still, it's good to see folks are enjoying the game and finding phat loot. I'm have to get early plate vicariously through you.
  4. From what I've seen, I'll probably forgo this title until it's deeply discounted which, owing to its AAA status, could be quite a while. Not hating it. It even has some stuff that looks good. I just don't need an extra game right now and it doesn't look like a must have title.
  5. Yeah, I do my own brakes also. Recently, the wife's car got the check engine light. Looked up the code and, yep, it's the ignition module again. I swear, it seems to go out every five years or so. I think it's overheating, so I put better thermal paste on it this time. I know I know, won't make a wee bit o' difference. Penciling in the DIS module replace for... 2020. Can't complain, the car is 24 years old. The new car is only 12.
  6. Admit it... that is totally a Self-Portrait, Gairnulf! That made me laugh out loud... ya jerk! lol On the other hand, if that really is Gairn, he's badass!
  7. There was one particular aspect of the story I didn't like. Maybe not dislike so much as it simply strained credulity. However, this is a non spoiler section and I don't want to kvetch about it here. Plus, I'm lazy. Except for that one thing, and despite that one thing, I loved the story. Like Junta, I think the best aspect of the game is the story itself and the fact that it's entirely personal. One of the reasons I liked the IWD games so much is that the backstories weren't fixated on saving the world, only surviving your own little corner of it and, maybe, helping it out a little. I also like the atmosphere. A little dark and certainly the situation is grim, but not so ridiculously cliched that I was rolling my eyes at every step. I enjoyed the combat, but I think it clearly has room for improvement. I enjoyed the puzzles more, but it could likewise use a little spit polish. ...But the story really makes the game and it serves as a good foundation for something that could become more epic if that's Obsidz' vision for upcoming sequels.
  8. I don't know how much competition a AAA console/pc title would be tablet/mobile device game. I don't have a tablet right now, but I'm literally going to buy one in order to play this game when it hits the shelves. Granted, I tend to hate to buy anything big for myself close to Christmas, but I'll make an exception this year.
  9. bwahahaha 'Strawnir' That was laugh out loud funny. I'm afraid I'm going to have to miss watching the new Star Wars film in the theater. For me, it was Jar Jar Binx. Ruined the franchise for me. I'll wait for it to come to bluray and then rent it. ...But, just to slap a target on my back, I don't like either Star Trek or Star Wars. Star Wars was great sci-fantasy, fun without being too serious or complicated. Perfect for my... eight? nine year old mind when it came out? Then the prequel decided to explain The Force which immediately turned it into The Farce. The best thing about the prequels was the job McGregor did as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Star Trek is commie utopian fluff. There's no other way to put it. Luckily, while the premise is laughable, the writers have *never* taken the commie leanings seriously and write stories that more or less revolve around people who clearly don't live in the utopian society that is technically the back-drop for the Star Trek universe. Okay, so I'm a moderator, but I know how folks feel about Star Trek and Star Wars and insulting them is fightin' words. So, I promise I won't be angry or put anyone on moderated status for going after me. Just keep profanity to a minimum (well... none really) and it's all good. :Cant's equable grin icon: ...And, just as a disclaimer, I actually do enjoy some Star Wars and Star Trek stuff every now and then. I just don't take them seriously enough to earn my techno nerd chops. EDIT: lol my wife read what I posted and now she's actually angry with me.
  10. I cashed out around the same time and got up at 7ish just to see how it was winding down. Looked like a frat house after finals. A few people snoozing on the couches and a few guys playing some horror game. There were a couple of people I swear had been there chatting all day. Dogtooth and...poolsomething? facepool? Good times
  11. As Good As I Once Was By Toby Keith She said I've seen you in here before, I said I've been here a time or two, She said hello my name is Bobbi Jo Meet my twin sister Betty Lou And we're both feeling kinda wild tonight, You're the only cowboy in this place, If your up for a rodeo, I'll put a big Texas smile on your face. I said girls, I ain't as good as I once was, I got a few years on me now, But there was a time, Back in my prime, When I could really lay it down, If you need some love tonight, Then I might have just enough, I ain't as good once was, But I'm as good once, as I ever was. I still hang out with my best friend Dave, I've known him since we were kids at school. Last night he had a few shots, Got in a tight spot Hustling a game of pool, With a couple of red neck boys, And one great big fat biker man, I heard David yell across the room, Hey Buddy how bout a helping hand. I said Dave! I ain't as good as I once was, My how the years have flown, But there was a time, Back in my prime, When I could really hold my own, But if you want a fight tonight, Guess those boys don't look all that tough, I ain't as good once was, But I'm as good once, as I ever was.
  12. Good Lord, my manifested friend, you've gone stalker on us! :Cant's slap on the shoulder grin icon:
  13. It's from Project Eternity ... Obsidian streamed the final moments of the Kickstarter and the chat noticed one of the devs wearing a well-fitting green shirt. ahhh! I seeeeee! Well, I can imagine. I didn't see.
  14. I have to admit, I don't understand the green shirt reference, but it does seem to have elicited a community response, so it must mean something.
  15. Yeah, that sawblade level was pretty impressive. I didn't see the beginning and end, but I saw a lot of good progress. You deserved a sandwich after that my green shirted friend.
  16. Yeah, I was rooting for them. I turned the sound down so the wife wouldn't knife me in my sleep tonight. Then I would leave, do stuff, come back, and yet more mario deaths. The first level Mr. Dowling here got out of dodge after several 1 second deaths. I don't know if they ever tried it again, but it was twelve shades of ugly. The other levels at least they made headway whenever I watched.
  17. I don't even have a pad. I'll have to ask for one for Christmas... if Santa thinks I've been good... or if Mrs. Clause prefers me to be naughty. Either way, I'll be playing pathfinder before the new year I hope.
  18. lol I had it on at the beginning and then left it on while I did other things. My wife heard them talking and asked me, "Do you have to watch it also? Can't you just donate?" ...And it was a serious question! I got disconnected, but I'm signing back on now.
  19. Okay guys, split your discussion into a thread in wot. Please continue there.
  20. I have to admit, I laughed out loud, MitoDrium. Welcome to the board and, now that your issue is resolved to your satisfaction, stick around and enjoy the board. Grab a burger and a beverage and enjoy the show.
  21. Sensuki does sometimes come on a bit strong, but he did back the game and he put in a lot of work on it. I don't agree with everything he says, but he does have the right to vent a little. Hell, I pretty much think everyone should have the chance to air grievances, backers and non-backers and even folks who haven't played. I have to admit that I don't take arguments made by folks who haven't played quite as seriously. :Cant's broad grin icon: lol However, I agree with Tigranes about the fact that all games, once you get to know them, become rote after a bit. Hell, I loved mage battles in the IE games, but talk about a heavily formulaic dance between magic users! Not an excuse complacency, though.
  22. Actually, that's not at all what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that the human activity of studying math is one thing. I'm an ol' skool Platonist, even so far as to do some translations of his works. I believe the things enumerated and manipulated exist outside of humanity. That's for certain. However, the process of manipulating them in the way that humanity manipulates with the intent to explain and understand is uniquely human. That is to say two things plus two things equals four things, but the abstract language that transforms the reality into ideas which we can then manipulate is manufactured. For all we know, there's some other method of communicating these ideas, but as far as we know, we haven't met the species that uses such methods. We simply have our own. ...But, as fun as I find the discussion, and as much as I appreciate the articles, I'm too lazy to further the debate, so I will concede the point and move on. However, speaking of communicating abstract ideas, we have to wonder where, when, and if the nerfbat will use the precision of math to batter some talent or make some monster immune. Of all the things I've heard recently, I'm only worried about excessive immunities. Of course, folks often inflate the issue, so maybe the immunities won't be that big of a deal when I start my next game. Hopefully, that's soon. For my part, I think Sawyer has some real displays of brilliance, but I've long thought, like many others, that he's a tad bit too invested in balance. ...But the game's fun, so who cares?
  23. :Cant's Big Fat Greek Wedding accent: Math come from Greek word manthano meaning 'come to understand.' In the perfect tense, you've come to understand and therefore you know. I could go on and on about this, but folks would probably find it pretty boring. I do run into the word quite a bit as the stem forms the root for a variety of words. I guess you could say that math comes from the noun, but I think the verb predates the noun in Ancient Greek, although I'm too lazy to go look. Most notably for me recently, in Koine the word for Jesus' disciples formed from the same stem, although the meaning has become more specialized. The question about whether or not math existed before the study of math? Hmmm Strictly the speaking, one must assume the things enumerated, explained, or otherwise abstractly manipulated must have existed before people, but math as an abstract idea is a human construct, so it may be a chicken and egg argument. :Cant's easy grin icon: Anyhow, I find these discussions interesting. Kind of weird how threads mutate to these topics. As for the original question, I'm going to restart my hard game soon. I played through on normal and about halfway through on hard when real life took precedence. I have a little time coming in a few weeks and I plan on hitting the game again. I want to do a hard run and then go to PotD. I just hope the tweaking for balance's sake is over soon so I don't have to rethink things in the middle of my PotD run.
  24. There are two issues that people have reported. One is spoilers. I'm going to move this thread to an appropriate forum for spoilers. The other is real world references. The game is somewhat analogous to real world history and events. I understand some folks think drawing comparisons to the real world is bad, but the solution is simply to ignore those portions. If someone goes beyond the pale in such comparisons or draws the discussion from the game to a purely political or off topic discussion, the thread or portions thereof may be moved to WoT. Otherwise, people can keep making comparisons between the game and real world history and events. I'm not saying that I agree with either side in this. ...But I don't want to create a purely sterile environment. I want folks to have some leeway to discuss things. If, on the other hand, folks level personal attacks on one another or attack other cultures or religions, such discussion will either be moved or removed.
  25. Crazy Finnish bastard, but we love his cat avatar so... what can ya do? ...And, kirottu had a sort of pictoral let's play of New Vegas. Kind of like an ol' skool twitchtv thing. For my part, I've never actually taken the time to watch someone else play something, but I'll be at my computer all day tomorrow working on stuff anyway, so I might as well over a tab for the twitch thing.
