  1. Zen, I *am* the discussion police. In two specific ways. I wouldn't even have posted, but I have to decide whether to approve or gulag posts, which I've already had to do. Second, I'm all but certain someone will report this thread. You have a good point about the title, but the important thing is the citation has A's own words. Anyhow, I'm mostly just urging folks not to attack each other, which is what I tend to urge in these parts. :Cant's equable smile icon:
  2. Does that mean there's only one enlisted? haha Maybe it's the O-club and that one enlisted guy is the busboy. But hey, they got deathstar.
  3. This is kind of like celebrity gossip, but I don't think it *is.* I mean, I don't like gossiping about the devs (or singling out individuals) but this is pertinent to the PoE discussion and it only uses Avellone's own words. I mean, if it turns out that someone fabricates words and attributes them to someone, they'll be warned and/or put on moderated status, but twitter is a public arena and you own what you say online. I know I've typed ignorant, puerile, and embarrassing things and had to live them down. Also, I'm even pushing moderated posts, yeah even snarky ones, as long as they don't become personal attacks. Rage against Obsidian (I mean, please don't froth at the mouth) but don't make specific personal attacks against individuals. So duke it out, guys, but don't go gonzo on one another. Please.
  4. Damn it, I didn't get to see the end. I'm in the precarious position of having to choose between my headset, whereupon I can't hear my wife, or my speakers, whereupon I'm forced to sign off. lol Still, what I saw was funny. I need try to condition the wife not to be irritated listening to the chat. I looked up SOMA, and I might pick it up, but I'm actually jonesin' for that title at the end of the last run. The one where they were all stuck in some sort of winter lodge with bad folk hunting them. I swear, this isn't just the booze talkin'! :Cant's diminished capacity grin icon:
  5. All life is surrounded by things that could have been done better in the first place. As someone who literally and, I *promise* you, has no more information than you, I will say that I hope things become clearer soon.
  6. I want to get a tablet. Now, I build my own computers and they're always top of the line when I first build them, but I know really nothing about tablets. I want to keep it under a 1 grand if I can, but I want a decent screen size and performance. The choice for me is between Android or Windows. Sorry, Apple folks, but the Applebots have left such a bad taste in my mouth that I simply won't buy an ipad. Of course, trying to be forgiving, I'll overlook Applebots who grief me over mentioning what a chore they are, but does anyone else have erudite advice on tablets? I love my Droid MAXX and so I'm inclined to some sort of Android tablet. I also intend to use most of my bandwith on my home network. I want something that will work smoothly with my computers and my printer. Nevertheless, I'm on Verizon and I want decent connectivity. I guess most of that is on the network, but I know some devices do better than others. It must game. Yeah, I won't have time to game on it much, but when I want to do so, I want it to be powerful enough to be able to hang with games. In particular, I plan on getting the new Obsidz Pathfinder game when/if it gets released. I saw a thread Gorgon made back in August, but these things change pretty rapidly and I've got pretty specific needs in mind. My luck trying to plumb the Obsidzian community on tech subjects has been pretty dismal, but I'm hoping for word from folks who are more in the know than me. <.<
  7. For my part, while I want folks to be careful about spoilers in this thread, I know I won't be buying the game soon enough to avoid spoilerage. Spiteful spoilers will be moderated on this board, but as the game's been out for a while folks get a bit more careless and I don't want to grief people for making honest mistakes or just forgetting. ...But I've been reading this thread faithfully and I'm on the edge about buying it. My gut instinct is that I will, but after deep discounts. I really want to see another New Vegasesque game although I could understand not wanting to pimp or whore the Las Vegas setting again.
  8. EDIT: Whiiiich I don't have privileges to do in this forum. lol Maybe someone else will nuke it for me. hehe
  9. I think Dowling said that they were going to broaden the Obsidzians who play and that there would be some Obsidian games (or at least one if I can recall) in the list. I'll try to find the link and share it. EDIT: Sorry, meant to edit in the post I just posted. I'll put it in and remove the double post now. Yep, specifically Sawyer and White March 2 if I read it right. Anyhow, here's a linky: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83016-special-extra-life-edition-of-obsidianplays-this-saturday/?p=1747693
  10. I only saw this thread because I had to approve a post. Shady, I knew there was a reason I liked you! Damn man, I'd let you... date... my sister!
  11. My yoga mat came. I've been too busy to hit my exercise routine as hard I used to, which really sucks. I was doing thirty to fifty miles a week hiking at one point and now I barely hike at all. I don't do nearly as many weights, either. So, I'm going to start taking yoga classes. Even with all that, I still haven't gained hardly any weight back and I haven't lost the muscle definition I fought so hard to get. I think I'll plan a big hike soon. I've hiked the hell out of San Gorgonio, so I think I'm going to hit either Mt. Baldy or San Jacinto. San Jacinto is tough. For my area, San Gorgonio is the toughest, but San J can still be a brute. ...And since the wife refuses to go camping and I won't go without her, I have to do all of them as a day hike. Trust me, hiking my still rather large ass 20-26 miles on a round trip with 4 to 5+ thousand feet of elevation as a day hike can be daunting. This should be a warning and an admonition to everyone here, don't let yourself get out of weight. When you're pushing 400 lbs, getting back into shape is a true and real bitch.
  12. Like my TrueNeutral friend and all the other mods, I'm a volunteer. I'm the newest and least important moderator. ...And, to top it off, I can be a royal pain. So, not working for Obsidz, I'm not defending it. I have had some harsh words for and about the company over the years, so don't take this as an apology for folks that don't even employ me. More to the point, this isn't a warning, an admonition, or even an attempt to shut anyone up. Hell, I think folks should complain about stuff on these boards. Unless people use profanity or personally attack another member (and I don't care if the other member is a dev, a mod, or some poor schmuck like I've been most of the time in these forums), I'm all for letting folks vent frustration or rage. I can understand the fear that this game could end up as vaporware. After all, it's been in development for some time, an eternity compared to some games and the quicker pace and turn around of some projects. So, I kind of worry if I'm going to end up disappointed also. ...But, as a gamer and a consumer, I've seen a lot of projects come and go over the years. I was heartbroken when Van Buren was canceled and, I will say with utmost drama queen fervor, I literally felt like I'd lost a beloved girl friend when the Black Hound got the chop. That was Black Isle Studios and Interplay. I complained bitterly about Van Buren. I remember posting at one point about how the latest news had pretty much made me throw in the towel on the project. I also recall vividly the response one of the developers made, one who would find himself unemployed not soon thereafter. He laughed. He was right to laugh at me. I was jonesin' for a game. He lost his job. Like I said, keep givin' 'em hell. That's all cool. I mean, I figure folks here are griping because they *want* the game to succeed. They want it to succeed, be done, be good, and work to start on the xpac or sequel. ...But I'm also saying keep in mind that the designers who actually come here probably *can't* say more than they do. Their jobs might depend on it. Now, because I stuck my head out and got preachy, I'll not take it personally if you grief me over it. :Cant's loosening his collar with a worried grin icon:
  13. Aw, comeon, you could carry plenty of everything in Skyrim. I don't think the inventory is a real problem. Just the idea of putting off the critical path for side content is offputting. For my part, that's just part of pretty much any sandbox game. I would have to say that every sandbox has that moment where you say to yourself, "don't I need to go take care of some critical business?" Some games handle that moment better than others, to be sure.
  14. It's not just baby talk. People talk down to kids. When folks take their comments seriously, even if they correct their comments or address their immaturity, I think children respond well. Also, taking interest in what kids say and responding to them as people rather than pets who use lanuage really helps make them take themselves more seriously.
  15. I'm happy to wait for it as long as it doesn't become vaporware. I haven't bought every Obsidian title they've shipped, but I've ranged from happy to ecstatic about the ones I have bought. Hell, New Vegas is in my top five all time faves list. So, since I'm a Pathfinder fan, I'm jonesin' for this title, but I'm not necessarily so impatient I'm getting restive over it. Just keeping my ear to the ground. ...and looking at tablets.
  16. Sounds good. You and GSG can wow us with your gaming prowess and we can make goofy comments from the gallery. Life. is. good! Actually, there were several members of the Obsidz clan who were having fun. That one haunted house game was pretty damned funny with Michieee getting folks hammered at one shot a scream! heh heh heh Who woulda thought watching someone else playing a video game could be entertaining? :Cant's bemused grin icon:
  17. With a big assed sand box game like Skyrim or newer Fallouts, the journey is the fun for a lot of folks and finishing isn't as important.
  18. As an aside, Visceris is a former regular who died. During the kickstarter, some of the folks around these parts were going to take up a collection to put in a custom NPC for him, but Sawyer said he would do it. Vis could be a jerk, God bless his soul, but he was funny and part of the ol' skool fabric of the place. I remember he was one of the few people who could really make me angry, and I try my best to keep a cool head. lol ...But he was a good ol' troll and he had good heart and I think he was trying to improve his life, lose weight, and be healthier when he died. He complained bitterly and often about the werewolf fight in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Good Lord he *hated* that fight and it took him a while to overcome that portion of the game. That's the background of his story. So, next time you lure him away to knife him (and I think he himself would have approved of you killing him off for his phat loot) read his story really quick. Doesn't take much time and it's quite the memorial for an Obsidian lifer who's gone.
  19. Since I don't have to get up before dawn tomorrow, so I'm staying up playing what I figure must be the last bit of Dragonfall: Director's Cut. I'm in the basement where I had my first countdown fight. I still think I could have killed my first boss if I'd had the balls to try, but we'll neve know. Now I'll probably face a more powerful version. We'll see, but great game nonetheless.
  20. Sorry for the double post, but I thought I'd share. We went to see a friend do mock trial today and afterwards the wife and I went out with the mother of our high school friend to a Chinese place for dinner. I ordered my Drambuie, which is actually kind of a sweet drink if you think about it, and alas, thought I might be kicked out before dinner if I poured out libations on the restaurant floor. heh, So I ordered a Drambuie neat and the server looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. They have a bar there, so I went to the bar and found the bottle, but Tuesday nights no bartender that late. So, in my nice guy Cant sort of way I grabbed a waiter to come pull out the bottle and pour me a glass. I had to show them the bottle because they still couldn't see it. Funny. Anyway, on the way home I picked up a bottle of cab and a six pack of some cheap beer called Fortune for libation purposes.
  21. Holy crap, I see myself typing things I don't even remember typing. lol That's pretty funny, but I was matching these guys in their drinking game.
  22. No, I'm not talkin' about killing 30 mushroom-walkers in order to get the bean soup recipe for the starting area inn keeper. I don't want to grind. That's why I like the example... I can't remember who gave the local guards militia example above, but it's perfect. The quests you undertake work towards a goal. You ask citizens about the events. You look for physical clues. Maybe you're forced to face a local group of brigands or travel to another town and face dangers on the road. Combat would be somewhat less likely, but the threat of combat, as well as the actuality, would be ever present. You *could* have side quests that range from trivial to actually quite important. For example, the threat of the brigands falls squarely in your duty as the leader of the local militia, so dealing with them is part of the main story arc (even if it's presented as outside your current investigation), but finding and returning stolen items, bringing surviving brigands back for trial, or rescuing hostages being kept for ransom could all fall under side quest material. Dealing with the overall situation is a main/major story arc. ...And, the people for whom you do small or trivial tasks would be friends and neighbors, so it would make more sense. For example, Sally, the barmaid at the local tavern where you and your guards take lunch asks that you find her kid and set him on the straight and narrow. That's a sensible request from your friend Sally. It's a little less sensible for Sally to ask a stranger who happens to come into her bar one day. To me, the Pillars story is a good low level spin on a personal matter that ends up being important to the region, but the affliction and dealing with the affliction, is personal. I liked it with one particular issue withstanding. However, I think something even more personal and with less grandiose eventualities would also be good. It's one of the reasons I loved the PS:T story. It was almost entirely personal. It mattered to you and to a small cadre of people drawn close to you by history and shared experiences.
  23. This is what I don't like. 'Fanboys' (so called) can be irritating, but I find them far less offensive than blind haters as a group. Once it becomes apparent that someone is not only actively cheering for someone's failure, but working actively and sometimes even surreptitiously for it, his statements become useless as a way to assess a title. It's the like the quote by... Voltaire? Something to the effect that some men use words solely in order to hide their thoughts.
  24. I'll have a drink for you tonight, shady. In fact, if there's something you think I should try, I'll pick it up before I get home and I'll even pour out a little libation for you, your mom, and the Corps (ya jar head). The wife will think I've gone mad, but what the hell? She's suspected it for a long time.
  25. I don't know about the other mods, but I tend to let things play out as long as folks aren't name calling, they put something in their posts about the topic somewhere, and don't completely derail a thread with multiple exchanges with clearly nothing to do with the original post. I've been following this thread and, while it seems heated and personal at times, it doesn't appear to me to go beyond the pale. No one has reported any post from this thread. Even though it does sometimes seem to be more about the OP than the topic, people still address the topic. The point is, folks have the right to get along or not and I would rather err on the side of allowing these discussions to play out. For my part, I have a lot of thoughts on the subject, but I've been resisting the temptation to post. If someone reports someone else or something like that, I might have to step in and I don't want to appear to take sides. ...But I am reading the posts.
