  1. I purchased a Galaxy S2 to play the game (and I'm sure I'll have plenty of other uses for it also), but I'm still curious about the FIre HD. The wife has an old Kindle Fire and I think I might want to upgrade hers also. So, any news?
  2. It's funny. I have a bible study group in which I translate the bible from Greek and the people there use three (sometimes four) English translations and we compare mine to theirs. The guy making the video didn't ask *me* about the verses. ...And I defy someone to find an instance in this forum where I've made a blanket statement about Muslims. Don't get me wrong. I'm not mad. I'm just pointing out, as others have already done here in this thread probably better than me, that the response to over simplification and failure to use rigorous logic isn't to resort to the same tacics. It just hardens the other side all the more. However, I will point out that there are examples of violent passages in the Old Testament and, for all of the fact that Christianity is literally based on peace, there are passages in which Jesus himself displays what most would construe as anger. He also talks of pitting family against family. ...And of course the adherents to any religion can be violent, no matter what that religion technically teaches. In this case, not only Christians, but also Buddhists and other religions. I tend to avoid reductionist views on religion. Then again, I'm religious so it wouldn't make sense otherwise. I don't tend to respond to these threads, even when I lurk in them, so I'll leave the last word to other folks. I would, nevertheless, urge people to be gentle with one another. Hate each others religions, politics, and sports teams, but try not to hate each other. Attack each others positions with utmost vigor, but not each others persons. EDIT: Sorry, TN, I was posting while you were locking. lol
  3. I think people are by and large naturally decent. Misguided? Sure. Flawed? Definitely. ...But still good at heart. Still, under most circumstances, inclined to kindness. Nihilism, hatred, and cruelty are not the norm, merely the most noticeable. Anyhow, there's a story about this forum. It's been a few years back, but one of the members whom some people knew personally had some issues and some of the folks were concerned about his well being. Several people took an active hand in real life to see what they could do. Specifically, Fionavar, Wals, and tarna (God rest his soul), went out of their way. In fact, more recently, there was an issue with one member and Tale really went to bat to try to help a member in real life. That one required contacting the local authorities. Even in our small little corner of the 'net, people are constantly trying to cheer each other up, rejoicing in each others' triumphs and consoling others in their tragedies. I don't think there's anything wrong with the info I divulged, but if any mods disagree, don't waste time contacting me. Just edit or remove the post, but I think it should all be good.
  4. Thanks again for the input, mkreku. I went to a couple of stores and tried them out. I ended up with the Samsung in the end, but it was a tough choice. I also think I might pick up the Kindle Fire HD that came out recently. It looks big and is more powerful than the old Kindle fire my wife has from about five years or so ago. We'll see how she and I like the S2 first, though.
  5. It's been a little crazy around here. My gym is about one mile from the attack and I live about 2.5 miles from it. I was driving west on the 10 and I changed lanes. Immediately, the police car in the lane behind me, like within a few seconds, turned on it's siren and lights and I thought maybe I would get a ticket. I wasn't really worried or scared. Just a little bemused but the prudent thing to do when being pulled over is to pull over. Well, the cop car sped past me and kept moving through traffic towards Waterman Ave. After I got home, I found out about the shootings. I went back out a while later to run some errands, only to find the city office on lockdown. Going back the *other* direction on the freeway, once again three cop cars and a couple of emergency vehicles were speeding towards Redlands. Crazy as hell. Wife was on lockdown and several friends were on lockdown near the scene. While I was out, I saw several emergency and law enforcement vehicles with lights and sirens going. It was Bedlam for a while. Probably should have stayed home, I guess. Not out of fear, but because I'm sure it didn't help that I was out on the road helping to clog up traffic during the emergency. Next time, I'll keep that in mind. Definitely not the reason you want to see your local area in the news. Life is more or less back to normal for a lot of folks, but anyone with ties to education in the area undoubtedly has some connection to people who were killed or wounded. We do. If anyone else here is from the Inland Empire, I hope everything is alright with you. Well... I hope everything is good for the rest of you as well. Stay safe, everyone!
  6. Do you ever do any modding at all in your off-time, Fenixp? Interesting project, at any rate. Second question, is this just a revamp of Morrowind, or is this going to be a platform using the Morrowind engine and whatnot but with different settings and perhaps completely different games? ...Or is it really just so the game can run on Linux and/or Mac? Sorry about all the dumb questions, but I was curious.
  7. Do you still play WoW, gfted? That's kind of a replay in a way, although as I recall you basically made your kickass mage and kept playing that. I always played a healer. Guess I'm a special teams kind of guy whereas you're the burn.
  8. Just incorrigible. :Cant's shaking his head with a bemused grin icon: Still, taking away the wireless mini game, I think the basic idea of populating the stronghold and fleshing out things like the quests and visitors is a good idea. I think I saw somewhere that Sawyer confirmed a change naming the side quests something a little more substantial than 'average quest.' ...But I guess the wireless idea would be one way to make me finally take the plunge and play a game on my phone. <.<
  9. Smart ass! Although I think this is not completely far fetched. Of course, not exactly, but going into mini-game status with the stronghold is probably a natural extension to a lot of folks. I'd rather they don't go completely gonzo on that front personally. Fleshing it out a little is cool, but I don't want it to become one of those frustrating mini-games that insists in drawing me away from the actual game.
  10. Just bite me! :Cant's good-natured snarky icon: ... I will, if you really really want me to Eldar.... *Next* time, super Cal. :Cant's expansive grin icon:
  11. I've finished the main campaign once already and now I'm considering taking my level... 6? I think characters to the White March xpac which I have not yet done. I might wait a bit. Nevertheless, I, for one, will be finishing a second run with the xpac included before too long. I do have some time constraints but, alas, on children.
  12. Just bite me! :Cant's good-natured snarky icon:
  13. Yeah, that's not a bad idea EP. Anything that makes the stronghold feel a little more inhabited would help.
  14. Give me a break. I've had more personalities than some of you have had avatars. In fact, I suspect some of you *are* me. :Eldar's Cantousent icon:
  15. I'm in Defiance Bay also, my cat kibble friend. This game is awesome. I play in small batches, but I have a hell of a lot of fun when I do! Hot damn, I'm even pleasantly surprised at how much I'm enjoying playing my priest of Eothas, although I wish I could fight more with Durance.
  16. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I still think Icewind Dale was better. I think it was a great game, and I'm probably a little more generous than Gromnir, but I have to admit there was a funny thing going on in the forums for a while about the frost dart. For an early implementation of the 3.x rules, I think it gets a lot of cred.
  17. I'm in a new run and I'm having a blast. I don't know what all changed in terms of patching, but I love the game even more than the first time, which is actually pretty unusually for me. ...And my favorite NCP in terms of monkeying around with damage and crowd control is Aloth, so I don't think I'm having more fun because I'm playing a priest than I did when I played a mage. I've started many games, played several through to the first village and only three out of the first village and I think this game's got real legs. However, as a disclaimer, I do think that my paladin run which I stopped might have been because I'm just fond of paladins. I was metagaming in that one and trying a build because I didn't figure I needed to take a certain NPC with me having done her quest the first time. This time, I figured I didn't care if I had duplicate builds in my party or not.
  18. Good God, my Neutral friend. Take care of yourself, man. I have leftover narcotics I'm willing to give you! :Cant's looking over his shoulder for the DEA: Okay okay, I'm not giving my leftover narcotics to anyone, but that just means they'll end up expiring in my cupboard and getting tossed. EDIT: ...And congrats also, Shady! Ya glorious bastard!
  19. Nam, have you been indulging in adult beverages? :Cant's smile with one raised eyebrow icon:
  20. When I'm actually willing to spend a decent amount for anything, port would be my choice. Of course, when you drink it in extra large tumblers, it's not like you can feel genteel while quaffing it.
  21. For build advice, you should try out the builds forum. I'm going to move the thread there and leave a placeholder here so you can get some advice from the grognards in both places. :Cant's sly grin icon: I would make suggestions, but I tend to prefer magic for my major dpsers so far on my runs. I will say that damage bypass is da bomb, but having two different types of damage is sweet in order to get around the immunities big K mentions.
  22. Niiice! I like a good wheat beer myself. Too bad I'm having some awful stuff called Steel Reserve. Not really a beer. More like a cheap malt liquor. ...But they're cold and I have a bunch of 'em. For Xmas, I'm going to purchase a tour at a brewery for a friend who's graduating from Berkeley this year. Kid's been wanting to go a pub, bar, or brewery with me for years and so I think he's going to appreciate the gift. It's even better considering he's actually over 21 now. I was already thinking of some place in San Diego, so Mr.ISO's brewery might just end up being the place. I'll call them on Monday and check on that. I just know that the wife and my friend's family likes San Diego and so we can go down, he and I will split up and do the brewery, and then we can all meet up again for a late dinner before we head home. I'll check to see if his dad wants to join us. If it weren't for the two high school boys in the crowd, the wife and mom would probably go to a winery down there. Hell, the mom would join us at the brewery, but my wife would rather eat paste than drink beer. EDIT: I hate it when my thought changes mid-typing.
  23. You know, I've been bad. I can confirm that this happens regularly to me also. I'm going to do a search to see if anyone has already reported it, but meanwhile, nice detailed report, Relrin. Thanks for signing up. Stick around and discuss and debate! Welcome to the forum. Yeah, a quick search showed immediately that other folks have encountered the same issue. In this report, it's the middle item reported: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83066-interface-bug-missing-buttons-tooltips-dropcaps/?hl=%2Bmissing+%2Bbuttons
  24. The only response I would have, davionic, and I say this without any rancor, is that a lot of folks present issues like these as being small fixes that, if implemented the way the member suggests, would result in huge benefits. I personally don't think that sales will suddenly skyrocket because Obsidz implements fog of war in the manner you would prefer. Your other points about how fog of war works in real life is pretty well taken, although I would go even *further* than you and say that having completely black areas is not realistic. I do a lot of hiking and the idea that I can't see *anything* in a given area just because I haven't stepped foot within an arbitrary circle is silly. ...But that's the sort of compromise we make for game balance. Anyhow, good luck with your cause. It clearly vexes and you and, if there's some easy way to fix it, I hope you get what you want.
