  1. I tend to be lazy about saving these days, but I still hit autosave. However, it can come back to haunt you in situations just like these. I don't even mind games that don't let me do my own saves as long as I can quit and save wherever. I don't like feeling like I have to play another twenty minutes to get to a save point or lose the last fifteen minutes of progress. <.<
  2. Moved to character builds. Left a redirect at General. Good luck, HerbSalad and happy adventuring!
  3. Tennisgolfboll *did* make a report about this bug. This thread is really more about bugs in general rather than a duplicate of his bug report. Since we're pretty easy going about folks venting here on these boards, it's all good. Remember, you can bash the game and devs all day long. You can bash specific designers within reason. ...But you can't bash each other at all. :Cant's friendly grin icon: I agree with Katarack that Obsidz has had some issues with bugs in past games, but PoE has been pretty much run of the mill in terms of bugs for me. New Vegas, for such a huge game, was actually pretty bug free on my system, although I think the gamebryo engine has its shortcomings. At least a few.
  4. Apologies, I did not realize this was spoilers just by mentioning an NPC enemy type. Not at all. I would say that the nature of the question is potentially *spoilerish* because the answers it elicits will probably contain spoilers, but my intention isn't to castigate you. ...And, anyhow, by NPCs, I mean joinable NPCs as opposed to NPCs writ large. Frankly, it's kind of tough figuring out where to draw the *spoiler* line. If we hadn't gotten complaints about some posts recently, I doubt we would have taken action, but it's also fair to keep things in the general forum as free from giving away content as possible. So, please don't take my comments as a personal reprimand. Just trying to figure out how to keep the most folks happy while stepping on the fewest toes. :Cant's wry gin icon: We'll get it squared away. You keep posting and we'll try to find some way of keeping things on the straight and narrow on our end. I had intended to send you a PM telling you I'd moved the thread, but something popped up for me here. :Cant's chagrin icon:
  5. Since this will sadly become an issue, I will point out straight away that this thread isn't a 'spoiler' because it doesn't talk about many specifics but rather about one feature, which is the ability to change the starting player attributes, such as strength and intelligence. This is precisely the sort of general post that should be in this forum until such time that it starts delving into specifics about where to find NPCs or NPC quests or the like.
  6. Moved for spoilers. General is for non spoiler threads. Threads that discuss the specifics of areas, quests, or NPCs should be put in other forums. I could have chosen technical, but I eschewed that option and went with 'strategies' instead.
  7. As a new member, you have a short period of moderated status, which means we need to approve your posts. It will be over soon. In the meantime, don't sweat the double post. We'll just remove one. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully one of the devs can use the info. Welcome to the forum. Don't confine yourself to tech support. Weigh in on any and all issues that interest you. :Cant's slap on the back icon:
  8. Moved from general to the more spoilerish forum of Strategy. Help, hint, and spoil away! :Cant's huge grin icon:
  9. I think most of the grognards here will probably say GoG. I like GoG and I use that service a lot. I also use Steam, and probably more. The reason is simple, it takes care of the patches and whatnot for me. However, GoG will still patch. So the question is what's more convenient and which is cheaper. The considerations such as trust and whatnot are clearly not issues for someone who uses both services. Lately, because it's simpler, I use Steam a lot, but I've been leaning toward checking out GoG again more often just because I don't like to fall onto one side so often it can take me for granted.
  10. Okay, I can agree with the nihilistic complaint. Not that some resolutions shouldn't be nihilistic, but that doesn't mean every ending should have a dark cloud. However, not all of them are horrible. One in particular is never resolved in a 'positive' fashion, but it does allow the NPC to have closure and that NPC enjoys a more or less 'favorable' ending at the conclusion. Still, I can see why some folks feel the way they do about the 'endings.' I would just remember that 'endings'in real life often tend to be the same way. There is no 'ending' in real life until someone's 'real' life ends. In the case I cited above, the circumstances didn't have a Pollyannic ending, but the NPC in question came to grips with what had happened and managed to find peace. That's about as good an ending I have ever found in my 'real' life, and I accept it in PoE. On the other points, however, I disagree. If folks want real choices and consequences, let those start with the people with whom they associate. On your first playthrough, take the NPCs you most want with you. Get to the end of their stories. That conclusion is a reward in and of itself. I particularly found a couple of the conclusions quite rewarding, even if they didn't yield 'shiny' rewards. The reward was the story. The reward was the journey. I loved PS:T. I loved it so much I played it several times. Then I edited my stats to get the widest variety of dialogue options possible and then played it again several times. Then, after many many completions, I downloaded an editor and went through the dialogue to glean the little bits and pieces I had missed. I *want* a game that doesn't give me everything in one playthrough. Certainly, I want to have a great game the first time, but if it leaves me wondering and wanting more, that's a good thing. :Cant's shrug and grin icon:
  11. The job of the writers is to come up with compelling reasons for what happens. Logical reasons extrapolated from a finished story aren't sufficient grounds for what happens because, as evidenced by the fact that there's another game, clearly the story wasn't *really* finished. Now, I can see Sagani and GM being a tough sell. Nevertheless, some finesse could pull off having a return of either one. Sure, some characters make more 'sense' as the story stands, but the story is evolving. Nothing is immutable. That's why I answered the question of the character I want rather than the character I think makes the most sense. If the writing team does a good job, any of them will make sense after the fact. If the writing team doesn't do a good job, they've probably got bigger problems than a single NPC being in the XPac. However, I also think it would be cool, and even more logical, if one or two of the NPCs ended up as an antagonist in future developments. Durance is a prime example of someone who could end up being a great potential adversary, perhaps even the main one.
  12. Probably Eder. It's all about the bro code. Just seems a lot more mellow than Aloth and I don't feel like poking him in the eye all the time like I do Durance. I guess Sagani would be second. Not only does she seem like someone who knows how to kick back and enjoy a brew, I like her pet fox also.
  13. When you shell out the cash, you hope that the endeavor met with some success? :Cant's wink and grin icon:
  14. I hope that no one went out and purchased the alpha based on my account. I already had it available. Moreover, I don't know what they tell folks who purchased the key later, but they were completely up front with the info I received, which is literally it's just the first ten to fifteen minutes of the game. However, I disagree about the controls. The very beginning the player avatar responds more sluggishly. After that, the controls seemed to work fine with the exception of waiting for areas to open. Maybe I'm just too forgiving, but I don't think the controls are bad. Pretty standard for these kinds of games. In terms of how the beginning unfolds, I stand by what I've said previously. Maybe because I wasn't paying that much attention to development, but I'm more excited *after* playing the alpha than I was before, but I suppose these things are objective. For me, it actually feels more like PS:T than PoE. It even sounds more like PS:T than PoE. That's not a slight to PoE. It was never meant to be 'more like Planescape.' However, for a title that I backed solely on the basis that it was trying to recapture some of PS:T, I'm pretty happy.
  15. So *now* you come through with the goods, my numbered friend, *after* I've already bought it. No, the original game was 15 bucks and the new one coming out was 20 bucks. However, before I do something so shameful as blame you, I have to say that I know GoG sells a lot of the same stuff, I've used them in the past, and it's my fault for not thinking to look there also to compare. Caueat emptor. ...But I'm back in the air conditioning and getting ready to sit down to play some more, so I'm happy.
  16. Okay, swine-hearted bastards, you broke me down and I pre-purchased Hong Kong. I'll probably pick up the Dragon one or whatever it's called later. Judging by how much I've been enjoying Returns, I figured I'd take the pre-order deal. It's 33% off. Of course, wait a while and it goes on sale again, but I figure now it's in there and pre-loaded. Of course, I'm only home for lunch, so I can't even play it when I'm done. :Cant's ho hum icon:
  17. The only feedback I gave about the alpha was that the VO work was good and sometimes excellent, but that the background noise was sometime too loud. Overall, I'm impressed their sound guy did it so well. Forget high priced VO talent, use the people who already work for you. I wonder if he'll be paid separately on top of his sound work.
  18. This is pretty much where I was. I didn't want to play the sequels and go back and be put off when I picked up the earlier titles. I figured that there was a reason they made sequels, which is that the first game must have been good enough to warrant it. So, I picked it thinking it would be at least 'good enough' and would get better from there. I'm on my third joinable NPC and I'm happy with my decision. :Cant's smile with one raised eye-brow icon:
  19. Interesting read, lordfairfax. Do companies usually give out hard numbers about these things? I thought that they usually referenced the numbers in generalities, but I don't really know how it works. Sadly, now that you're not on new member moderated status, I won't get the heads up. ...But now that my curiosity is peaked, I'll have to keep checking this thread. Like Labadal, I'm keenly interested in the sales figures now.
  20. I hope you can eventually learn how to create your own ****ing thread instead of ordering other peoples thread into the discussion that *you* want to see. I don't think I was clear enough. When I said I hope, what I meant was, I will close the thread if it doesn't conform to these details. While I like being polite, it wasn't a request. It was a gentle reminder that this thread will not become a gossip column thread. If you have further issue with this, feel free to PM me. I'm going to leave your post because perhaps other people misunderstood my meaning as well. EDIT: r and t Second EDIT: On further thought, I'm just closing this thread on the grounds that there was a pre-existing thread already in place. That was my first instinct, but I left it open because I generally like to give the members the benefit of the doubt. If you want to discuss Avellone's departure, I suggest this thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80155-chris-avellone-leaves-obsidian/
  21. Hey, Shady, I can't link directly to their backer page because it's commercial in nature. However, I will link to the game page and it's easy to find their backer information there should you choose to do so. I'm at... Silver or something myself, but I'm also considering throwing more money at them. Mostly because I'm a big sucker, but also because I *do* think the game is looking pretty damned good! https://torment.inxile-entertainment.com/game
  22. I got it because it had the earliest release date. It might be linear and all, but I'm enjoying the game. I'm seriously considering buying the new one on sale right now based on the experience. I guess I've put in a few hours so far. Might as well buy the series and then have no time to play it starting, oh, *tomorrow!*
  23. It's hard to explain without giving out details, but the character creation is a lot like the Elder Scrolls setup, kind of like New Vegas in a way, but even more embroiled in the story in a personal sort of way. ...and it doesn't take long. I actually went through the process a few times because I *enjoyed* it. I was greatly impressed by the Alpha, and I haven't been following the development all that well. I just happened to approve a post in this forum and saw this thread. Between Wasteland 2 and what I've seen of Tides, I'm on the way to becoming an fan of the developer. I even joined the alpha forum, although I haven't actually read or posted anything there. This forum takes up enough time, let alone 2.
  24. I *just* bought the first Shadowrun game from this company, Shadowrun Returns. I'll probably regret this since the time I have to play computer games will dry up soon, but i have my hopes. I've played the first ten minutes or so and I like it so far. If I do, I'll but the newest game on Wednesday evening.
