Schmucking around is part of a PnP game. I mean, we'd've gone a lot further if we met in person, but I'd also have munchies and there would be more jokes and I'd act out the parts of the vines and horse. PnP games are all about schmucking around and being goofy. One time, the party was fighting off some lizard men and giant lizards. I jump out of my seat and got on all fours and showed the party how the lizard managed to bit one of the party members in half. It was a lot of fun. As for this campaign. I did say all along that this was a temporary measure. However, what this has encouraged me to do is maybe pitch the campaign idea to one of you modder types. I'd love to turn over what I've got done and see if we can make it into a NWN2 mod. I'm possessed of great laziness, but I do exert myself from time to time. Maybe I'll post in Atreides' thread.

Yeah, that would be quite welcome, alan. If only I could get some help on this bavarian alps mission. I'm falling asleep in my chair right now, so I'd really better hit the sack. Of course, mothers' day is tomorrow, so limited play time then. Dammit.

Any games for the AGEIA PhysX processor?
Cantousent replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Computer and Console
This might go into my next system, the one I'm currently planning. For my wife's system, I'm not opening the damned thing unless something goes wrong. When I do, it won't be to put in a physics excelerator. By the time I build the upcoming machine, there will be more information on whether this is a good buy or not. -
Yeah, I couldn't sleep. Excited about a new game, I guess. Anyhow, I loaded and now I'm in the level for the second demo. It's a lot easier to see at night. I dunno. I should sleep, but this really is an excellent game. It's harder than MoH, that's for sure. Normally, I play at medium level first, but I'm playing this one on veteran because I figured it would be the same as MoH. I don't mind it, but it's not the same as MoH.

We've just taken out a bunch of AA guns. I've played a bit past where the first demo left. I have yet to get to the level they used for the second demo. Dawnsville or some such. That was where I really used my buddies. Trying to take shots at the tank was a health risk, alright. Of course, I bought the game at 10pm or so and I can't stay up all night playing it. I'll give a better report tomorrow.

Call of Duty is a great so far. Something that strikes me right away is that in Call of Duty, moreso than any other game I've played, you rely on your AI controlled compatriots. I started the game on veteran and I actually count on my buddies to do things like keep the enemy pinned down while I get in position. When I take out a tank, I rely on my buddies to kill the enemy riflemen to give me enough time to do my job. This is even better than Half-Life 2, which is the only other FPS title I've played that makes any substantial use of AI controlled allies.

CoD Deluxe Edition bought and in the process of installation.

No, the mage casts slick. The ranger shoots a fire arrow into the oil. The fighter takes care of the burning orcs who manage to get through.

It's a favorite among the lan guests in these parts.

Well, I'm running the next game. I really look forward to seeing what you do about that horse. That gives us a couple of weeks to look for a replacement. We might want to start a new thread. Also, it might be good to find someone who has real experience with OpenRPG.

I agree that special interest groups have gone haywire over nudity in video games. On the other hand, what the hell is the big deal if the video game doesn't flash some skin? I mean, if you can't enjoy Indigo Prophecy (or Farenheit) because they covered up the chic, then there's something wrong with you.

Time to start planning my new computer
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Well, I'm going to go through and find a combination and post it here for your perusal. If I start that process now, it might be a good 3 months before I pick up all the parts anyhow. -
I hope you enjoy it DR.

Unless they've suddenly decided to outright lie to us, something I find hard to believe given that it's not even in their best interest to do so, I think the 30-40 hour estimate is far more reasonable. I agree with Atreides in regards to the "information in context" comment. We've got more information from more sources in better detail.

Well, as opposed to some of you guys, I rather liked KotOR 2. I thought it was a great game. It was flawed, but it was still a boatload of fun. I actually trust Obsidian quite a bit. The only shifty thing I've seen so far is the fact that they wouldn't even confirm or deny that German interview. If it weren't for that, then the rest of this conspiracy theory stuff wouldn't even be an issue for me. It's not really, anyhow. I agree with Vol. It sounds more like planning troubles than outright deception. I see the news of late as a painful but necessary process as the game goes down the final stretch. So, I anticipate enjoying the game. I'm going to follow that gut instinct and get it on pre-order. If I'm wrong I can complain and make some noise and the usual. The next time, I'll wait. That's what I did with KotOR 1 when it first hit the sheves. I waited for some time before I bought it. When I did, I was quite happy. If NWN2 disappoints me, I'll be leery of Obsidian's next game. In the meantime, delaying your purchase is a great way to make your feelings known.

Let's just say I'm going to rest uneasy while the rest of you are on watch.
-
Hey, it's 47 bucks at newegg for the pre-order. It's not like that's going to make or break me. Plus, I'll come here and give an honest opinion about my experiences.

It's not in Obsidian's interest to have their people lie, Spider. This isn't some sort of random comment. Nathan was making a clear statement about the game. If Obsidian keeps to the 30-40 hours claim and times average out at 20-30, then it'll be worse than if they just didn't respond at all. No, I don't think most people like to. Sometimes they must. ...But people rarely lie when they think it will be worse than the truth. In this case, saying nothing is certainly better than a lie. As for you, Atreides, don't be a yutz. The question isn't whether the game is 20-30 hours. It's not whether or not the DMC will ship with the game, whether NWN2 will support PW building, or even how well the toolset will function. The real question is, can we trust Obsidian to level with us as consumers? While you might see everyone who asks that question as a noober, I see everyone who doesn't ask that question as foolish. On the other hand, I'm still quite a noober because I've got the game on pre-order. That, my friend, makes me a noober.

Well, maybe I can get a chance to play a little. I haven't had a chance to play in a campaign for years now.

You literally rolled the DC. That was total comedy. I mean... I was very, very happy with the way that session went down. There was some real role-playing in there. The supposedly True Neutral hobbit decides he's going to take a huge risk for the group. The inept fighter misses his throw, the druid manages to snatch the hobbit from the maw of certain death. When everyone else finally get across, the mage is left across. He rides his horse for all he's worth, but the horse takes one hit. ONE hit. The vine is clearly outmatched by the size, speed, and outright innertia of the running horse, but managed to grapple his leg. The mage is thown the rest of the way across the river, but takes a severe beating in the fall. The horse is stuck in the ford. He can still break free next turn. Ah, but now the other vines start attacking and the horse is already grappling another opponent. Once the second vine manages to grapple the horse, it's all over. ...But does the druid give up? No. He tries everything he can to save the horse, understanding that the horse carries supplies and is literally irreplaceable. The party does everything it can to defeat the vines and save Ol' Lucky, the horse. Unfortunately, Lucky's luck runs out and he dies. In a fit of rage, and for the chance to at least make a few meals out of Lucky, the party kills the remaining vines and then contemplates how to drag the dead horse from the water. They drug the horse to the water, and it was his last drink. It ends there. My schedule is going to start getting hinky as hell. I'll run this next session and then it'll be time for someone to over the campaign. I like the setting and I'm sure that someone could take it and run with it. You can do it! The bottom line is, you guys deserve a dedicated DM and I've said all along that I just can't make a regular schedule of it. Let's see if Kaftan, meta, or one of the others is willing to put his money where his mouth is and run this group!

Oh, I believe Nathan. It would be stupid for him to outright lie at this point. Also, I tend to think that most folks don't really like to lie. That doesn't mean they won't, just that people would rather tell the truth. What this also confirms, at least to my mind, is that Feargus did make the 20+ hours comment. This passage: "...let's say, 20+ hours, as has been stated in interviews in the past..." makes it quite clear someone gave the estimate in an interview. Hey, I don't care if Nathan is fixing Feargus' mistake or not. There's no way in hell that he made that comment off the cuff. The folks at Obsidian decided to address the issue. I believe Sawyer when he says it was a big mistake to make the estimate in the first place. I've never thought the game would be as short as 20 hours for the average player. I just figured someone should give an official response and this is as likely as we'll ever get. Also, NWN2 is a big title and I'm sure Obsidian's more than glad to let Bioware do the heavy lifting. "Let Bioware handle the boards," they say. "Afer all, why should we try to hold a new batch of unruly message board cowboys when Bioware has trained them all to be message board sheep?" The problem is, Obsidian, you won't be able to hide behind big brother forever. One day, you're going to be forced to decide between running a board with your own games or not. ...And message boards, even if they represent a vocal minority, are worth too much to just cast aside. At least that's my assumption based on how many official message boards all these gaming companies support.

Time to start planning my new computer
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Decisions, decisions, decisions. I've never used an AMD before. I have a friend who works for them and he's been trying to get me to switch for years. This rig will use AMD. Here I was thinking that the big question would revolve around the video card. Turns out, the big question is really whether I should wait on the chance all this stuff is out this year or just figure that the stuff won't be out until the middle of next year. If it's going to take that long, then I'll build a rig right away and wait until I build the next rig after that, probably in two years before I use the newer offerings. -
You almost make me wish I had a PS2, Darque. Well, that and I've played some Kingdom Hearts 2 on a friends PS2 and I thought that was quite interesting.
